  • R.I.P. Mr. Heron...Youtube has afforded me with the opportunity to find classics that I thought I would never hear again.... Living in the Bottle was one of them... unfortunately, it took Mr. Heron's passing for this song and others of his to come to mind. You may be gone Mr. Heron, but your music will continue on.

  • @jodya077 ,ur so right my m8,and ur such a lucky fella.lol

  • @jodya077 "Doing alot of raping and slam poetry...." I'm sure you meant "RAPPING!?!"

  • Didn't Joe Bataan to a version of this track ?

  • @jodya077 yes, you're correct - Bataan did a very passable 'latin-jazz' version circa 1976. However, Gil Scott-Heron co-wrote and did the original with Brian Jackson.

  • @TheSoulTwins Love this.Any idea who played that killer bass ?

  • @NowSunrise bass player for GSH's 'midnight band' was Ron Carter - although the full line up consisted of a 'who's who' of some of the best musicians in soul/jazz funk at that time: Johnny Pate (conductor), Brian Jackson on keyboards, piano, Bernard "Pretty" Purdie on drums, Burt Jones playing electric guitar, and Hubert Laws on flute and saxophone. Hope that helps?

  • @TheSoulTwins Thank you for taking the trouble to reply.Must now check out all these guys' work. Its been a favourite track of mine for a long time now....an absolute classic:

  • @TheSoulTwins danny bowens played bass with gil in the midnight band ron carter played on the studio recordings on a few albums
