@AuroralAscendancy Please watch my newest video: 'Above the clouds'. I think you'll find the drum sounds are a lot better on that one! :P This in an old video from when I first got the keyboard.
@jackspic3 Yeah, I filmed this with a VGA webcam, so although the audio was recorded with a direct line in, the audio quality was massively reduced when I uploaded the video. I also used one of the M50's preset drumkits on this recording. The combis demonstrated in my trance sound set videos mostly use custom kits and individually edited samples. IMO, the whole drum beat sounds wack on this recording! :P
My question: is the X5/D necessary if you have something newer like the M50 which I'm sure is much more capable?I'm just wondering if there's something the X5 can do the M50 or whatever other synths/workstations cant.I have an X5 that I bought a while ago but it's just sitting there and wondering if I should keep it or sell since I bought a yamaha MO6.I know JayB has one and he wouldnt let it go for anything.Just wondering why...
@TransynthMan Its not to do with features, its the sound that sets it apart, even though they're both korg synths, they sound completely different to each other as they use different sound engines. I also think the X5D generally sounds much 'fatter' than the M50. I mainly keep it for JayB's fantastic soundset.
@Nismology5 Thanks for the reply. I'm surprised that the newer Korg doesn't have the sounds of the X5. I always assume newer, more sophisticated synths can sound better than older simpler ones- I know Analogue is a different thing though. I still dont know if I should keep mine.I know it's a cute synth but I couldn't figure out how to get JayB's patches to work on mine and it's also a bit of work to tweak the sounds.
An X50D!! Haven't seen one of those in a long time. I suppose you had trouble setting the BPM of the delay, what with it coming from the days before tempo syncing?.
@Nismology5 I'm surprised to hear that. I had an X5 (not D) for many years. It's the only keyboard I've ever "gigged to death". I used it for it's Macarto strings (G49) and the Gospel Org (A31). I can still almost remember the patch numbers,
I'd never have guessed that X5s/Ds were given the time of day by the trance community, they don't even have filters.
@wolfiedmx thanks :) I'm afraid I can't take credit for the lead, it's part of JayB's wonderful Korg X5D sound bank. The sound is called 'black duck'. I did make the bass though xD
@bjornakesson thanks man! I love perfect blue, my favourite trance song of all time ;) The drop section is just... well, perfect! I wish I could do it justice with my humble setup!
@whisperdancer It is my favorite synth, i like it even more than my M50 in some ways. Bear in mind thougth that the sounds used in this video on the X5D were made by the venerable JayB, really brings the keyboard to life.
@Nismology5 lowly? I tested one of these and thought it sounded great - I need a Korg for gigging with as my Karma has bitten the dust - my XS stays at home if I can help it !!
The alwasy crappy audio on YT is because YT uses quite heavy compression that is optimized for clarity of speech, not music. Nothing can really be done about this exept one little tirkck: If you encode your video with parameters that matcehs youtubes own format closely enough, YT will not recompress the file, at least not for the version mathcing your original file...
hey man love your style. but try connecting your set to an audio interface and record the audio directly into the computer....... besides that i dont know what can be done about that "shreding"
@TheIndieArt the audio is taken from the line out of my mixer into the mic/line in on my pc. The video before upload sounds fine and crisp. It must have something to do with the way youtube compresses the file on upload...
@Nismology5 Yeah man Youtube does that. Its all about bit depth and sampling rates. They sacrificed audio quality to compress files. Yet they offer video in HD. We can only hope audio is next. But I do like your style man. Thumbs up. I do the same shit.
@sp4zzer on the contrary, the string sounds have always been FANTASTIC on korg ROMplers IMHO, right from the M1. The M50's strings are excellent, from incredibly realistic string quartets to luscious orchestras, to fat analogue strings. I agree about the drums though, I had a hard time getting a decent kick sound for this video, I ended up combining the hard-house kit with a DnB kit, but I think it works well. That one good thing I can say about the Juno-G, The 909 kit was HUGE!
@Nismology5 Well.. to be more precise, I don't really like keyboard string at all, never have.. exept those who doesn't try to be strings, if you see what i mean. :) The drums work out quite ok, but I agree a little more punch would have been nice.. still.. well done.
hi what sound set do hou have for th x5d?

awesome cover. but did u put a compressor on the kick? cos the kick sounds a bit weak, or is it youtube's problem?

@weaponEX yeah its a great keyboard. The sound on the X5D is part of JayB's trance soundset, and naturally the delay is set to 140 bpm, for trance!
