3:05 the programming language Lain's writing is Lisp. It were believed that Lisp was an Artificial Intelligence language, which is probably why there where another Lain in the Wired.
This really was a weird little "game", wasn't it? The only continuity problems is the whole "killing Mika" scene (at least that's what I think it was) and wired Lain killing herself. If we go by what the anime established, wired Lain was a strong, independent woman in contrast to her shy, quiet real life self. Now it makes sense why Lain wants to escape, BUT, wired Lain would never be able to go through with killing herself since she was strong and secure of herself. I need help understanding...
Ok I need help finding a certain video which contained a song. The video's name was Lain psx version part 1. the song was a remix of barcode brother's song "dooh dooh". i really appreciate an help. Oh yeah some of the songs lyrics were, "you're like an angel, you sleep with a star so you cant understand what goes on in a heart".
i loved the anime seen it twice and this game look good but it obvioulsy differs from the anime a lot which is good in its self. btw what is the body thing lain has in her room?
I really must question the virtue that has been placed recently on making other people uncomfortable. This makes me uncomfortable and does nothing for me, or anyone. I hope that the creators of this game haven't imagined themselves to be in any sort of right by this.
WTF at 5:47-6:02?!?! Lain puts her sister Mika, (or at least I think she is) in the computer screen killing her?!?! I've only seen the first 3 episodes so yeah, but I'm pretty sure she wouldn't/ doesn't do that!!
@Tooldoh remember being at a panel at an anime convention one time with him there. abe commented on them being separate entities, with only lain being a common element. the manga, anime, and game all had different aspects of lain, but were not really related to each other. remember when asked about the ending of the tv series, he said that is for you to decide. damn i feel old remembering this.
It makes the most sense for the game to end this way; while the game to anime to manga is NOT supposed to be "serial" as the creators made them. However it seems weird for it not to be...even a little. With Lain committing suicide in the wired to be born in to the real world, she could have been the Lain in the anime.
This could make sense because there are infinity Lain's.
In any case, all three mediums of Lain express the thought provoking ideas of our world.
Either way, the fact that they incorporated suicide in this game is mindfucking itself.
If the show and the game followed eachother, then that would mean that she can't escape the wired no matter what, because if she had killed her wired version before, it should still be gone.
I would say that it's a metaphor for "there is no reality," meaning that because of the technological advances continuously being made, you can never truly exist in reality.
...to write my comment. So she's trying to come back to the "real" world in the game, or something. Meh, this is a good mindfuck, but I'm tired and am going to sleep now.
Oh, I get it now. She killed herself in the wired to wake up in the real world.
Y'know, looking back at all the philosophical and well-thought out interpretations of the ending, for the game and the anime, I think it's quite simple for this.
Going by the game's ending, it's a reference to that "phenomenon" in Japan where most kids these days are closed off in their rooms and not being social outside the home. Makes sense as she kills herself to escape the wired, and I'm running out of space---
The problem is, she's actually older in the game (16 or so). It's just the different character design that makes her look young.
My guess is the three continuities are just alternate versions of the same concept: they all use the same basic themes, but looked at in a different way.
That's a really really creepy ending...A lot different from the anime. It appeared she was trying to MAKE a body for "God". This is so strange and so amazing T_T
For those who don't know, this game is an alternate timeline of Lain. Notice that she's a little older, less Autistic/Dissassociative. The choices for Lain were either to live as a person or take the power and responsibilities of a Goddess of the Wired. I am going to guess that someone else did the animation on this, but it is still Lain, just not the one we know and love on the show. She's different.
Did you actually watch the conclusion of the series? Lain doesn't shoot herself, she becomes a powerful deity in The Wired. Frankly th conclusion of the TV series ws better.
I don't see how anyone could be confused. The anime and game are in completely different universes, so any type of comparisons and such are just retarded and null.
As for the anime, the creators left it clear that they wanted the western and eastern audiences to have diff. interpretations of the show, but mostly were the same, apparently. Imo, it's like Silent Hill; it's left up to the viewer to decide what happens.
Unless there's a "real" ending I don't know about.
oh so this has nothing to do with the ainme sorry but i never seen or played this game but knowing that makes me feel better cuz seeing my fav anime character die takein the losers way out is really fucked up
The game was meant to accompany the anime, they are related and are both canon. If this is your favorite anime you probably understand that Lain exist in both the real and the Wired world. She 'takes the loser's way out' as you put it, and kills herself in the Wired, in order to escape it and become real.
Um problem , The Game & The Anime can`t be in The Same Continuity `cause not only are The Designs totally different but Anime Lain would never commit suicide. She`s thought about it on occasion but never acted on it(Real World Lain`s too scared , Wired Lain`s too strong-willed).Anime Wired Lain even said:"What` s it even matter what`s real & what`s not anymore?!?!?"
Well, I just downloaded this game for a Playstation emulator, but I really don't have any clue how to play this game. I've collected all the upgrades, gate passes and poly-things. But now what? Where should I start with the diaries? How do I play them? Must I play the little clips in order to progress? Can somebody please help me?
(tip: when you're in the interface don't push a single button for like a minute or so, little clips will emerge of the events after Lain's dead... so check it out ;))
I thought the game was a bit of a let down compared to the anime. There wasn't any gameplay, and the art style was different from the original(which I thought was better). They still managed to capture Lain's "Not There" stare. I also thought the ending stunk.
i just recently bought the game if u really want it that badly your looking at $120 to spend forit, and you gotta check thi site like every week or 2 they rarely get in stock but recetly got that game and the rare yu yu hakusho forever game or ps2
This is not really a visual novel. Unlike visual novels where you chose what happens and make decisions that affect they story, you don't in Serial Experiments Lain. In the game you just look through many audio or video files about lain. In simpler terms the game is almost like a movie.
Cool. I actually own a copy of this game. It's very...odd and the story is radically different from the tv show. I never beat it unfortunately.
I found it by luck around the same time that the tv show came out. I paid around $90 for it on ebay back then. I imagine it's near-impossible to find now.
She probably "lives on" here too, it's just more explicit as to how she leaves this world. Even though the anime story is different from the game scenario, they've got some kind of core in common.
Regardless of which, I really would like to play this game... It would be another Lain story, and I've already seen the other two. (anime and manga)
The reason why the anime Lain ending was great was because it left open questions to be asked. Questions like what was the The Wired really connected to. The reason of the creation of the Wired. And the significance of Lain (which will probably always be a mystery). Stuff like that. This anime is so deep, believe me.
It's very hard to translate that, she's being very vague and, due to lack of kanji, it's hard to verify. I have 3 ideas so far for it. 1: "In this place, return to emptiness". 2: "From here I return". 3: "Because of my return, I am here". Just guesses though, she's just too vague.
Umm what about the part where she lives on forever in the wired? Sigh.. I didn't get the game much but I loved the art in this although the anime seemed like a more likable story
This game was only made in Japan, and never spread farther than that. And this is one shit of a scary game, so if you wanna try to get it, I;m warning you.
the end made me jump. i thought she doesnt die. and the laughing at the end. creepy. but it looks like a cool game even thought you cant tell what there saying
I actually own the game. :) My sister picked it up for me like 3 years ago when she was in Japan. And yes, it is almost impossible to find. It is a great game! I haven't played it in a really long time though...
Well, if the wired and human world are no longer connected in the way they were, could'nt Lain fully manifest herself on earth as real, like Eiri did?
And then, if she did that, be on earth again forever until she died, cause since the connection never existed between the wire and earth she would not be able to return to the wired... Right? NOTE: THIS IS ABOUT THE ANIME.
i prefer the anime ending where she dident die she just became one with the internet or some thing like that and it gave me pace of mind when she whent to see her all grown up freind alic knowing that she wasent gone just part of some thing biger o and it was good that her dad stayed with her to.
oh..my..god.There were upper halves of bodies in that room. she was messing with then from under. She fixed one of them so that it was cradling her she beat one of them with a stick she broke a mirror and cut herself with a shard she made that woman kill herself she obviously killed the woman in her room why did she kill herself? why did she have to do it THAT WAY?! i like the anime a LOT better. i DONT like the game Lain i think i will remember this video 4ever i really dont want2
Hina-chan, You don't have to remember this video forever. The reason is; In the end of the anime? Lain didn't exist anymore, as she wiped herself from everyone's memory. If that is so, then this game could never have existed, because the real Lain couldn't be in it. And if this game isn't the real lain, then you don't have to remember it. And if the memory is not there, then it never existed... =D
O and another thing,i have dug deep into the wired about lain and her influence, its hard to believe but there are some who whorship lain as a god"Literaly".Sad:( this video made it hard for me to sleep cause of the end,now i need meds becuase of this....oi -.-
its a navi like program that is an add on to your computer, you can interact with lain and almost literaly put yourself in the wired....wow,look it up,though the producer of the project is moving and it will be postponed for now
At least I know where Pioneer got the name "Serial Experiments": it's fairly obvious that if this type of game was successful, there would have been more "serial experiments".
3:05 the programming language Lain's writing is Lisp. It were believed that Lisp was an Artificial Intelligence language, which is probably why there where another Lain in the Wired.

Wha!? Suicide?! Also, WTF is that THING at 4:11? Is Lain creating some sort of synthetic human?
Personally, I'm keeping the show and this game separate. I agree with rptheory: suicide is an interesting twist, but it really doesn't fit.

i thought she killed herself in the real world to get into the wired? just cause she looks a little younger in this than in the show.

it just fits beter because at the end of the show there is none left in the wired but her.

And then, if she did that, be on earth again forever until she died, cause since the connection never existed between the wire and earth she would not be able to return to the wired... Right? NOTE: THIS IS ABOUT THE ANIME.

Bill... Don't think too much about the anime. It'll only make you stranger. (I have proof).

oh..my..god.There were upper halves of bodies in that room. she was messing with then from under.

The game is completely seperate from the anime. Also your statement wasn't funny.

Real people in our world actually worship a fictional anime character? Amazing...That really helped me lose more faith in humanity.
Naroon201 3 years ago
its a navi like program that is an add on to your computer, you can interact with lain and almost literaly put yourself in the wired....wow,look it up,though the producer of the project is moving and it will be postponed for now

At least I know where Pioneer got the name "Serial Experiments": it's fairly obvious that if this type of game was successful, there would have been more "serial experiments".
If only Sony would allow the bring-over!
