I heard this version first too. So much better. Although I like the churchy organ direction they went with the album, I think if the album had this quality throughout it I would have liked it so much better.
This song reminds me of love. I remember making love to the girl that I would eventually fall in love with and my room is dark, just the glow of blue light from my stereo gives allows us to see. And, this picture of blue light runs through my head every day. Iwill never be that happy again. I feel like Im meant to be the soldier now, to go at it alone. My one and only love for my entire life has deserted me. I am now lost. God save me.
man am i happy somebody invented this youtube.. if we didnt have youtube there is way too many bands i wouldve never heard of.. i get to talk with hundreds of people a day without actually talking to them just because i get to see their feelings on something through their comments..we are just so fortunate to have this.. im thankful
this is excactly the version of the song i know from when i first heard intervention (and arcade fire) after i downed it through limewire. i love the raw sound of it. i love it better then the studio version.
@FriedRock I know! I couldnt find this version anywhere but on purevolume and then they took it off when neon bible came. They made a mistake overproducing this song, It is so eloquent, even with the hoarse voice.
when i first heard this performance several years ago, i wasn't particularly impressed either. then after Neon Bible came out, i think this version is refreshing...especially to hear so much violin and the expressive slide guitar. it's so much more intimate...instead of preaching at you from the pulpit of a cathedral (which, granted, is powerful), he's on the ground with you sharing your pain. both are great regardless.
great version 5*.the trouble with arcade fire is that all their songs are so good, they can be sang by anyone and still be great, it seems so many people are getting famous this way.check out julianaeveryday ,its the best version of this song, and she has a lot of greats, but she doesnt take from this song, she can only add, love arcade fire
yeah i like this too, but i think neon bible is a superior achievement to funeral as it re-defined their sound into something more thunderous and dark which suited the times of it's release, Bush had just been re-elected (the king's taken back the throne) and they illustrated the cynicality of the time in the song windowsill. i found it disappointing too at first but that album really sucked me into its depths after a while. it takes more effort than funeral to fall in love with it but its raw.
have you ever heard the violin? it's like the bass in a classic rock song( in the background always, that's the real power behind arcade fire)! switching behind orchestra and chemistry
This is pretty good...... So is his before Neon Bible came out then?...... I think something sounds wrong with the lead singers voice though.... I think he has a cold or something.... I love his voice but in this it does not sound so good......
I think this shows how talented Arcade Fire is. They are are such an incredibly versatile band. Their instrumentation work effectively in so many ways. This version is brilliant as is the Neon Bible version.
Yeah, there was definitely wrong with Win's voice there: you can hear it when he introduces. I honestly like this version much more than the album, because it doesn't have the organ
I don't think that the organ makes the song... The lyrics make the song. On this version, the lyrics are slightly different than the final album version, but both of them rock!
I loved just the piano in the begining.
The only thing that could be better on this version is, definitely, Win's voice.
Way better version. heard this on their myspace page when it first came out
