  • Tony Joe White is one of the most underrated musicians coming from the South.

  • @VisualVVatcher : He did a great song called "Out of the Rain": with Jessi Colter on "Out of the Ashes." Great musicians, both of them.

  • What style, he makes your bones move, what rhythm,. But I'd like to hear Tom Jones sing it Man he can also beef it up, but credit to Tony Joe

  • thx for the post.....great song

  • Killer Cajun blues...

  • yeah, I really like this song.

  • Great song... This song could go head to head with any of the greatest blues song ever made.

  • Cook that stuff up twice..you've got yourself a good plate of Poke Sallet.

  • Elvis doesn't deserve to sing this song.

  • @manmanguy true

  • @manmanguy ELVIS DOES IT BETTER AND YOU KNOW IT ....LIVE WITH IT....HA,HA,HA [ anyone reading this it,s personnal and ment for one person ]

  • @MrWaynejohn [anyone reading this would know you are a foreigner or a retard}

  • @manmanguy anyone reading this will know your original comment was stupid... i mean ...." DOESN,T DESERVE " ?????.....STUPID !!!!!

  • @MrWaynejohn So which is it? Foreigner or stupid?

  • @manmanguy i,m not going to fight with you stupid..... i just thought your original comment was disrespectful and wrong....if you had any guts you would see this and say sorry...it,s up to you

  • @MrWaynejohn Please quit typing. You're awful grammar makes my eyes bleed.

  • @manmanguy is that the best you got ???....lol...... your a child, grow up yeah ?

  • @MrWaynejohn It's clear to see English isn't your first language.

  • @manmanguy look i,m not here to fight with a child.....why don,t you grow some balls and self respect and say SORRY for your uneducated and foolish remark your originally posted [ yes you can check my words and advoid being a stand up guy in your reply ...it,s up to you ???? ].

  • @MrWaynejohn So you won't answer whether you're devoid of proper grammar or a foreigner? It's ok to be ashamed of yourself.

  • @manmanguy yep thats it COWARD advoid facing up to your silly childish original comment , your pathetic....

  • @MrWaynejohn Please learn how to spell.

  • @manmanguy yet again pathetic....but lets try to rap this up......so i will answer your questions then you answer mine...o,k......i am " foreigner" and when i typing i use short hand .......now you.....do you think you original comment about elvis was respectful and fair ???

  • @MrWaynejohn Thank you for finally answering. Yes, I stand behind my original comment. There were others who should have been named the king of rock. Elvis was merely the heart throb. It's a tale as old as music. The one the girls like the most becomes the front runner.

  • @manmanguy ummmm...sorry your answer is no good, i,m talking about your original comment " elvis does not deserve to sing this song " it had nothing to do with him being crowned " the king of rock & roll "..... why does elvis not deserve to sing this when he was a successful , respected , and voted one of the greatest singers of all time ?...explain ?

  • @MrWaynejohn Ok. This song takes genuine creole bayou soul in order to represent it. Anybody but White could do it, but it's his song. Elvis was a pampered shit way before he redid it. He doesn't deserve to represent this when he lived in Tennessee. Totally different American culture. You have to consider the differences of culture here in America. Each state truly is different. It's not just New York, Texas, and California. There is probably more genetic diversity here than anywhere.

  • @manmanguy o,k YOUR point was made and it,s your opinion....so...there it is...... that said you have to remember tony joe white was elvis,s friend and had no problem with elvis covering it [ i quote elvis saying to tony joe white .... " i sing this so much, i feel it,s mine " elvis ment it as a joke ] futhermore, you have to admit did not do a direct copy, elvis version is fast and more rock & roll .

  • check out "blow da rack" in search or browse.....only guy that has ever come close to the Tony Joe feel.....band ain't to good....but the guy has an original take on this song.

  • Classic, don't make music like this anymore, Awesome.

  • great song! poke or polk...don't eat it if you don't know what you doin'. toxic!

  • @lenarita1 Its good when cooked right.

  • @metalrat60001 Sho' nuff!

  • Best tune, when ur freewheeling. He's good at what he's doing!

  • The Gator`s got your granny...if only,fucking bitch!!!!

  • What a legend! Great fucking post,thanks `67!!!

  • Until I saw this vid I assumed he was black.Thanks.

  • Wow, what a song- just heard it on Sirius Radio! Love this song- what a groove! Thanks for posting it!

  • What retards 'Don't Like' this song? Must be real morons I bet.

  • Tony Joes' swamp music is always so TRUTHFUL...that's gotta be one reason I & so many other people luv him so much!

    "I’m down in Louisiana,

where the aligators grow so mean,

there lived a girl that I'd swear to the world

    made the aligators look tame

    Poke Salad Annie

    Poke Salad Annie"

  • Hell, I had forgotten how good this is...used to play it in the late 60s on hrmonica with my friend on the guitar/Brings back some memories.... (hello from Sweden)

  • It's poke salad ,not polk. Its made by boiling leaves from the pokeberry bush.It grows all over the south. T.J.White is good.I remember this song when he first came out with it!! Hooker

  • @MrJLHooker

Can I get poke bery bush in |Israel?

  • @Mrsaliyah2010 I doubt it grows in nature in Israel, and in any case, people should NEVER eat the berries.

  • I like to boil mine twice before i scramble it with eggs, ya can add some cheese on top if ya like

  • thanks Elvisking for posting this gem, never heard of TJW before, to all the others arguing about the names of which there are several the one I do know is the original name is Poke Sallet gentrified into Polk Salad

  • Tony did it first.

  • Actually it's a sweet Louisiana accent irrespective of color, awe but you have to be a true southerner to savor it.

  • @Strikesis Ain't never tasted sweet polk before, and I been eaten it all my life

  • Raaaaagggeee.....

  • POKE SALIT... thanks for posting the vid~

  • THIS IS GREAT...ALWAYS LOVE THE ORIGINALS....WHEN ARTIST COVER THEM THAT'S A GREAT COMPLIMENT.....SP IT'S ALL GOOD.....THANK YOU FOR THE POST.....

  • Love you Tony Joe, always have, always will. Best voice ever in the history of voices! Be well and thank you. From the "other" mean, vicious, straight-razor totin (sp?) woman. Sorry, born and raised in Chicago! Currently in Texas, so am learning.

  • @jeppesen99 No, I actually am smart (182 IQ), and 50 years old, loved this song since it came out. Which is why I'd like to see it titled correctly. I guess you just can't spell well either and tend to defend other fools. You're welcome to each other.

  • thank you....nice memories...

  • seen Tony Joe at a pub in Melbourne Aus two years ago brilliant show !

  • it s SALAT NOT SALAD

  • No way that telecaster sound comes out of that guitar

  • Dem folks in Charlston are messin

  • Yes...I listened to TJW way back when. Annie was one tough lady. Don't mess with her Polk Salad veggies.

    Larry, Taiwan

  • i bet if you asked tony he loved elvis doing his song!

  • This is how to do "it".....

  • LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Elvis who????

  • This man wrote, "Rainy Night In Georgia" along w/ many other songs that were covered by the greats~!

  • great cool bluesy tune of tjw, nice chords, wha wha, and singing.

  • Polk Salad O'Bomba,

    Mean businessman.

  • good song by Tony, Love the Elvis version as well...

  • a classic by tony joe white

  • this nis coool

  • Тони самый лучший блюзмен всех времен.Сегодня у него День рождения,поздравляю.

  • poisonous.....

  • Super!

  • I remember this song when i was growing up, and today i found out the singer is a white man, all this time i thought it was a black man

  • freakin' hot ...

  • Definitely the best version of this tune, lots of raw sounding guitar on it, Elvis' did a good version for sure, but this one belongs to Tony, like the man says....

  • If Tony Joe White is not in the Rock and Roll hall of fame he certainly should be! A great song writer, a wonderfully unique singing voice that is almost addictive and an unbelievably engaging stage presence, he should have been a major star! But most of the time when I mention him to others the response I get is, "Joe Who?" It's sad.

  • @Tunes2Die4

all get ready -new TJW album 28/09

  • Sounds white to me. Stop with your self loathing.

  • Songs like this remind me of why NPR is the best radio station to find real music today.

  • this a song u should have whiskey with

  • hes from Oak Grove La. almost in Arkansas......But sounds very south louisiana

  • That is TIGHT. Great great song.

  • Elvis might be the king but not of this song. TJW might be the most soulful, original blues man nobody know about. His greatest hits album does not have a bad song on it, incredible artist!!

  • Re: Tony Joe white Vs Elvis. Elvis is dead.

  • That is about just the best combination I ever heard with my ears on and so bear.

  • Tony is one of a kind. Nothing to do with color. Listen to Willie and Laura Mae Jones by him. Tony and Elvis were just out at a different time in history, but that doesn,t make them black. They have their own sound, period. I know plenty of soul singers that don't sound like Tony,he just naturally sings that way.He also talks that way,he didn't need a brother to teach him that.

  • whoever said their was a competiition between the two (elvis and jony joe) tony joe was the original and elvis just tried to copy him----no comparison--i still have the tony versiion on a 45

  • This guy has some "brother" in him

  • Great! Does he have a tambourine on his leg?

  • I remember this one...Sexy Cool version!

I had never seen him in the flesh..can't say i am disappointed!..:-)

  • now that is a jam. i can dig it.

  • this is so cool that it's red hot.

  • It's POKE salad....NOT POLK salad.....

  • He's right! A mean-assed, vicious, strait razor-totin' broad.. The projects was full of 'em..And, a drunk-assed ol' man, with a bunch of thievin' dirty-assed kids..!

  • LOVE original classics such as this!!!!!!!

  • the original and the best version this is tony joes song not elvis
