@Coolhaksta2010 The rental tape? I have it, and I don't remember them all. One of them was for a film called The Big Tease and another was for some crap-looking British film.
@videolover1999 The retail tape has trailers for Wild Wild West and Deep Blue Sea and the rental tape has trailers for Felecia's Journey, The Iron Giant, Deep Blue Sea, The Big Tease.
i reckon the big suburban thing of the 10s/20s will be video parties. people over 30 gathering around a vhs player and watching their old videos, tittering and smiling nostalgicly over the lack of special features, subtitles and pin sharp pause functions.
the 70s had wife swapping, the 80s and 90s had cocaine and the 00s had dogging - bring on the videos...
i was thinking the same thing for a long time. i think usb movies will be the way for the future. they could have storage capacity up to 50 gigs or more than that. they wouldn't need menu screens any more. just plug it in and open the file you wish to see such as the movie or a behind the scenes featurette. most of the space would be entirely devoted to the movie and the quality hd picture and sound. once again i think USBmovie will be the latest movie format.
But now about 10 Years later, a different version of a DVD is now advertised so it would be even better than the original DVD. And that's DVD Bluray. :P
One big disadvantage with DVD compared to VHS. With VHS when it breaks, you can always fix it with sticky tape. But with DVD, one minor scratch and the whole film is fucked up (pardon my language) and millions of messed up pixels appear on the screen.
I excuse your French Thesurus lol. I think for domestic use DVD is better, but for Recording I'd still rather use VHS for it's simplicity and reliability. Hard Drive recording is good for stuff you just want to watch once.
Of course, it will presumably go in a never ending pattern, Blu ray will be the next big thing and then DVD will go down the same route VHS did. Possibly in 10 yrs time, another big thing will come along that will exceed all expectations and then Blu Ray will become unpopular. A never ending pattern. Thats the thing with modern day technology.
True indeed, at least Blu Ray is backward compatable with DVD, otherwise I'd have hundreds of the bloody discs gathering dust or waiting to be chucked out.
lol. I still have trouble converting some VHS clips to DVD because of the dust particles that damaged their picture and sound quality. The picture gets jumpy and flashes repeatedly sometimes causing damage to my sensitive eyes. I wonder if Blu Ray has the same effect.
not exactly. it's true that vhs is obsolete because they no longer make vhs or vcr's and they obviously can't play on dvd players. now dvd's can't really be obsolete because even if they stop making dvd players, dvd's can still play on blu-ray players. the blu-ray laser even makes the dvd picture a little sharper than usual. dvd's won't go down the same route as vhs.
There are little contraptions(I think one of them is called Disc Doctor or something like that...) that will smooth the dvd surface out. There are multiple layers over the one layer with all of the information, so your stuff will still be safe, and your scratch will be gone.
@Thesurus02 I have never scratched a single dvd in ten years. Dvd is way better than dvd in any possible way. don't say bullshit please. By the way, a BD now is even less likely to be scratched.
"The picture is twice as sharp as VHS..."
I think it's more than twice as sharp...

Weird to think we're now 10 years on and Blu-Ray is the new thing.
I think, soon it will all be USB sticks and downloading.
