Yet again, another situation where Christianity happened to do the same thing. You don't get such bad stigma in countries that embrace Buddhism, either, because of how the Karma system is considered. There is a growing movement in the US even for heterosexuals to call the other partner. I do it, it feels more equal in a relationship and is sex neutral so that around prejudiced people there isnt an issue that says the gender matters unless you want to disclose it
I mean, I dont use partner for the second part, but its a practical term in many senses.
Also useful for us who dont believe in marraige but think saying gf forever seems less committed

I am a gay man and love Barney, but the truth is he did not come out voluntarily. He and Representative Gary Studds were outed in a sex "scandal". They were not partners, but they were both outed in a witch hunt. Gary Studds chose not to run for re-election, Barney Frank did run and won. This is not the outcome the looney right was expecting.
Barney has done great work, but we can;t revise history.

In Finland, one of the two candidates who made it to the second round of the presidential election, Pekka Haavisto, is openly gay. Grant it, he's not the favorite in the second round, but that's mostly because his opponent, Sauli Niinistö, has been labeled as president-to-be for several years already.
This makes me proud of my home country, because after all, who gives a damn about, for example, a politician's sexuality? We care about his political views!

I didn't even know Barney Frank was gay. Now *really* think about it for a second... as far as I can tell - unless I'm just living under a rock, that demonstrates - to me - how little it was really made into any kind of big deal by his detractors. If I heard someone complaining about Barney Frank it was because they didn't agree with him, not because of his 'gayness'. @RelativistSlayer I'm heterosexual, and I stopped using the word "boyfriend" when I started dating men. I used to introduce whoever I was in a relationship with as "my man." Some people seemed to be uncomfortable with that term back in the '70s, but I thought it was more accurate than referring to an adult male as a "boy" anything. Just a matter of personal taste, I guess.
