  • I live near where you stoped at the end we went to great wolf lodge this christmas!!

  • Great video. Back in the 80s I was on 77 or 85 near Charlotte and got behind a left lane hog. I rode his ass for a few miles and when he finally got over in the right hand lane, I passed him. I was so furious that I flipped him the bird when I passed. Next thing I know, he is behind me and all I can see is BLUE BLUE BLUE. Yep, an undercover police car. I got my ass chewed and since then I don't tailgate or use the bird, ever. True story.

  • @TammyLoves2Read Thanks for sharing that story, lol.

  • @cdsech I saw your comment, here's why I said HER. In my time on the road on long trips the last 5 years I've counted how many men or women are in the left lane going slow, over that time it's roughly 75% women, sorry, it is what it is. Men may be more dangerous drivers with regards to crash statistics but women hog the left lane more often. I invite you to count for yourself someday.

  • Hey, if you have thoughts of coming back to Louisiana, they've raised the rural speed limit to 75. I discovered it when I was on I-49 a few days ago. Not even a month old.

  • @RoyalGrigsby I won't be back that way for a while but that's good to know, thanks for the info!

  • they need to widen I-77 from six to eight lanes from downtown south to the SC border.

  • @PelicanGuy 485 is a disaster during rush hour

  • I wonder which roads are greener, GA or NC?

  • ahhhh, lol. yesterday i was thinking about making a video just like this on I 485 south from hwy 16 to hwy 160. i've been all over this city many, many times and when there is a traffic jam, i know when and what exit to get off on and take the back roads. ohh yeah, your doing at least 10 miles over the speed limit. lol, you flick on your high beams on me and i will hit the brakes real hard. i've had some people spin out behind me. lol.

  • Charlotte is one of the easier big cities to get around in. I grew up here, so I know my way around really well. But I've also made numerous trips to other big cities, so I know of where I speak. Orlando is the worst big city to drive in - everyone's a tourist and no one knows how to get where they're going.

  • 4:00 , notice the Highway Patrolman.

  • the illumonati arent real shut up, goth kid,

    anyways....Great video!

  • @KitFistoPwns LOL, Thanks!

  • freeway jim when you said downtown charlotte its uptown charlotte

  • @keithjohnson20988 Obviously, I'm not a local.

  • @Freewayjim Depends on who u ask. Im from Charlotte and we call it downtown charlotte. Downtown is the most confusing place to drive. The CHarlotte and NC Dot do a VERY poor job at labeling.

  • @macsrule94 I would agree with you on poor signage/labeling throughout the state.

  • @Freewayjim I called the County Manager in Cabarrus County and complained about it. They wonder why so many people have accidents. I know where I'm going and people about kill me. IE the ramp from 85 Southbound to 77 Southbound is stupid that people get in the inside lane (knowing that it is going to end) and then evil eye you when you don't let them over. My dad was hit 2 times there in his F250, trailer hitch saved it. Semi turned over there one day and everyone was forced to 77 north.

  • @macsrule94 That interchange needs a complete makeover IMO, it may have been OK when it was first built but not with the traffic volume it sees, plus Charlotte continues to grow.

  • @keithjohnson20988, since I grew up here, it will always be downtown Charlotte to me. That uptown stuff is for the birds.

  • That Chickenfoot song sounds great! Rare that a supergroup could pull this off! The Charlotte portion of I-85 is more interesting than the Greensboro part of the interstate. They have more gas stations, hotels and restaurants at their Charlotte exits. I compare parts of that 90 mile stretch since 85 goes through both cities.

  • @north5880, that's only because the new I-85 stretch around Greensboro has only been around a few years. Give it time, though. Believe me, Greensboro is a much safer city having rerouted I-85. No more trips through Death Valley, even if I happen to be coming from Winston-Salem, which I have to do from time to time.

  • And yes, that car, a mazda 6 that crossed 4 lanes of traffic, it is very common here in charlotte. i was almost hit by one.also this is nearing the end of our rushour

  • ^_^ I see the hotel I stayed in. ha!

  • This was my daily commute for 2 years. Tyvola Rd exit to Hwy 73

  • I was born in charlotte and have lived there my intire life! still in the same house! 11 years.

  • hey, watch it... many of us are from charlotte.

  • hey, learn to drive! lol

  • lol (:

  • @filth86 yah but so does alot of southern cities the south is pure damn shit so if ur in the south i sugest get out now

  • @gotthkid2 nah the south is the best. thats why its growing, by alot. Sorry to rain on your jealous parade.

  • @NinerGreen why would i be jelous bi judgemental ass stupid rednecks? the only reaosn ple are moving is because all the jobs are down their and do u know why? because the illuminati and the new world order is coming ito play u better look up on the illuminati and the world controll........and ple in the south dont even know what emo is

  • @gotthkid2 You are calling the south"stupid rednecks" yet you can't even produce a single sentance with correct grammar?! Get real dude. The South is growing by a lot for several reasons. Yes, jobs are one reason, but you are insane if you think that is the only one. People in the south don't know what emo is? Okay man. You're delusional and your ignornace of the south is quite funny. You're right about one thing, the south wouldnt take too kindly to you, it's far more classy than that.

  • @gotthkid2 Ahh name calling and insults, typical of a defeated man, or in your case little boy. Small Backwoods town? I live in a city, a large one at that. They were staring at you? Hmm, maybe because they thought you were good looking, I doubt it though. I didn't support Bush, my state voted for Obama in 2008, what the hell are you talking about. In fact, damn near all the major cities of the South went Democrat in 2008, and 2004. I am a slave to no one. Sorry.

  • @gotthkid2 Your really stupid. Everything you say is insuling and imature. By the way, emo is stupid and imature. Its so not cool anymore either. It's just little wimpy boys and girls who dye their hair black, talk about how they hate everything and watch cartoons and play video games all day. Someday when you grow out of it you'll look back and say, "God I was stupid." Don't insult the south, or anywhere else for that matter. Its snobby, and not cool.

  • @NinerGreen oh and one more thing...the north already beat your bitch ass in civil war.

  • @NinerGreen " You're right about one thing, the south wouldnt take too kindly to you, it's far more classy than that." I love that statement! I love the south!

  • lol

  • the best time is of course in the summer when the weather is nice at night.

  • you should come back to charlotte and do the Brookshire blvd freeway around the city and other highways.

  • thanks for posting this video. i saw the other one you did of I-77 north last year or the year before. and yeah those left lane hogs get on my nerves, I-77 is only so wide, lol.

  • I hate left lane hogs!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • In regards to the woman you passed and her reaction, I cannot stand that. They (speaking of people like that in general) give you an evil glare as if passing them is a bad thing. Ugh

  • You were in Charlotte. Isn't bump drafting the LLH legal down there?

  • @exit322 if you aint rubbin, it aint racin' lol

  • nice video .. when you said thats the only 4 level stack in the state .. are you also saying that no 5 level stacks exist ? also

  • No 5 Levels in NC, not even close.

  • Right at 6:12, the coliseum is long gone, they need to that sign down, it was replaced with the "tajma arena" uptown to apepase the uptight bankers...Sigh...Money talks in this town moreso than anywhere I've ever seen

  • Go to Dallas. Even moreso.

  • Nice video, Jim.

That left lane hog was a big pain.

I saw that person at the end changed lanes right into your blindspot.

  • Thanks, when I passed that woman, she gave me a drop dead look, but no birdie, lol. Like I was doing something wrong, seriously I was barely going 55 during that stretch.

  • wow wasn't the speed limit like 60 mph, could you see how much people were backed up behind you?

  • @JcBrooks651 I-77 north and south are notorious for troopers. Because the speed limit at the border changes from 55 to 60 then further down in SC to 70. And many people like to... pre-speed to get to 70.

  • You think that was bad wait until you hit the NJ Turnpike and the NY area. People can't grasp the concept of lane disapline.

  • Filmed up there, was not nearly as bad, I-77 always gives me fits.

  • @Freewayjim In the mornings between 6-7 it started getting crowed, and 7-8 it is crazy as heck.

  • Ignorance like that just astounds me. *shakes head*

  • Good video. I wonder how many miles are on your car now?

  • 72,000 and change

  • 72,000 isn't bad. How many miles do you average a year?

By the way, love your videos!

  • nice video,

does 485 make a complete loop around Charlotte? because the last time i checked there was a gap somewhere in the North Metro

  • The NW section just opened, drove it last week, the NE section (I-77 to I-85) will take a while to get done.

  • Nice video! I guess Charlotte is a nice place to live, but the freeway system could be better, especially in the east/southeastern part.

  • Thanks, I think the freeway system (except for I-85) is lacking.

  • There has been recent major widening projects on I-85 in NC

  • Great job, man!

The recent I-85 widening between the US 29 connector near UNCC and Speedway Blvd. (err...Bruton Smith Blvd.) was classified as "temporary" by NCDOT. When they have the funds or complete the northeastern arc of 485, I expect they'll get back out there and add more lanes. The stretch of 85 between Speedway Blvd. and NC 73 will be widened soon to compliment the recent revamp of 85 in Salisbury.

  • Thanks!

Yeah, they can't widen I-85 from Concord to Salisbury soon enough.
