In short, our flight from Montréal was canceled because of wild-cat strikes which resulted in us being driven to Manchester, N.H. then to Boston, Mass where they lost our luggage and put us on another airline completely. Our luggage arrived at our destination days late-- Airlines seem to feel complete immunity when dealing with passengers, as if we're children to be herded around and talked down to.

At what point does a "delay" on the runway become unlawful imprisonment? Northwest got its pants sued off after they held flights on the runway at KDTW a couple of winters ago. There are now stiff Federal penalties for this kind of things, but geez, that doesn't make the experience any better.

Yeah the nine hour Delta delay video is even worse! But I feel your pain. The first time I ever flew we were delayed for 2 hours and 15 minutes in Atlanta because of a mechanical problem. But I made it fun lol.

Then it took us another 2 hours just to take off. And the Flight was from Philadelphia to Providence... a 30 minute flight. I will never fly US Airways ever again.

DEREGULATION is the WORST thing that has ever happened to this industry. Many "legacy" carrier airlines still have business models built around the pre-deregulation period and cant keep up with discount giants like SouthWest. Sadly many airlines will have to go bankrupt and be built from the ground up again in order to work as far as your airline service thats gone with the hot flight attendants.
Most of the annoyances that passengers complain about has nothing to do with the airline. Primarily TSA check points and the food at the airport and since they arn't god they dont have control over the weather. You want a solution, raise ticket prices...massively, airline ticket prices havnt changed since the 198o's, literally...if you adjust that for inflation you can see that the price of tickets have been on a decline ever since. Hence more more "Greyhound" passengers (thanks southwest!)
The truth is airline travel is a MASSIVE BARGAIN! Let's face it, in some cases you can fly for less than it takes to drive to some locations. You have multiple employees to pay, everyone from the dispatcher to the flight attendent to the CEO's secretary. The cost of the fuel which from Dallas to Washington is about 15,000 pounds or so for a 100 seater jet. Then you have the maintenance of the plane, people and parts, etc...and in the end they usually barely break even if at all.
I was flying PDX-IAH with United, the flight itself was 4 hours. Then, while descending, Dulles stopped accepting arrivals due to thunderstorms. We were put into a holding pattern for half an hour when our pilots realized we were low on fuel. We were diverted to Richmond, VA and sat on the cargo ramp waiting for fuel and weather to pass. After an additional THREE HOURS, we got our fuel, and Dulles started accepting arrivals. We were stuck for 8 hours and we couldn't get off the plane either...
You're right its totally unreasonable that the pilots follow procedure and save your life and everyones elses by diverting to another airport. They should have just taken the chance and landed in the thunderstorm. You should have also knocked on the flight deck door and reminded them to check their fuel because Im sure they arn't on top of that either.....

As for the total invalid argument of take the bus or a car, maybe I and many others should do that and then the airlines can understand where their bread is buttered.

you know, what ever happend to people being grateful for being able to fly? flying has become such a part of everyday life its nothing special. yes its unfortunant that you had to wait there for 4 hours but weigh the pros and cons: 4 hour wait and x hour flight as opposed to X hour drive time in a cramped car on the interstate to who knows where. its time people gave the airlines a break because when its all over they've cut you a lot of travel time. give them a break and suck it up.

Lady, get a grip, you get what you pay for number one. Nubmer two, if you deplane you losse your slot at LGA. Third off do you think we cater a flight for 5 roundtrips? Nope generally a single and there is only so much to go around. Not to mention that you do not have the slightlest clue what a sweatbox is untill you are one of the airline crews.

There's a difference between US Airways and United Airlines. US Airways sucks!!! United is actually good. Sorry about that last comment, I didn't actually know what was going on. I had a similar problem on US Airways... never again.

I hate to break it to ya, but when air traffic control puts holds into affect, the airline doesn't have much choice but -- gasp -- to hold... The captain's "clear up weather" button must have been broken that day, so let's blame the airlines! And did you seriously say "united airways" in the video at 1:05 into it? Wow... 4 hours and you don't know what plane you're on??? A fine example of how clueless the traveling public is about what goes on behind the scenes.
