And my puppy is an Olde Boston Bulldogge, I plan to compete in agility, fly ball, as well as get him to start hunting eventually and possibly even breeding in the future. Making a spring pull is the first thing on my 'to make' list to get him in the best possible shape he can be in.
Think of it this way, a body builder doesn't only work out one part of their body, they work out ALL their body parts. There are lots of different reasons why you would want your dog to be as fit and as well built up as possible. The reason you use a spring pull for pits and dogs of similar breeds is because they have the jaws and the determination for this type of training. This dog could be an intact male used for breeding, he could compete in weight pulls, or he could be a hunter(wild boars)
I don't own a Pit Bull, I do own a Staffy Bull which is built similarly to a Pit Bull. And she loves to tug and dangle. She is able to use her natural abilities and all of them. No other activity gives her this. And FYI, this is a total body workout for the dog, not just jaws, and neck. Notice his lower body is doing most of the work.
Phenomenal dog in phenomenal condition. Major props that you don't own a fat, unhappy, bored Pit Bull. :)
They do this type of training to keep the dogs mentality up and to let him have fun. Also these people are well respected bully breeders and they do this to also keep them in shape for dog shows. Also they do basic guard dog training also.So please stop the fairy tales of these dogs being only used to fight. That is not there intintions at all.Idiots like dangerouse realy get on my nerves with this kind of stereo typing. So please stop being negative.
The reason that this breed is caught in the limelight is because of it's size, and of it's strength. All it takes is one of those bites to be directed the wrong way (as is possible and common in any dog) and you have a tragedy on your hands.
But whatever. I'm not the least bit surprised by the responses on here. A little disappointed, but all people are disappointing. So, happy trails.
Something you should know, I own a pit bull. It's received OBEDIENCE training, was neutered young, and is properly socialized to make it just like any other breed. I think that this sort of training, and irresponsible dog owners are to BLAME for the propaganda (you must be referring to the victims on TV who have lost family, life, pets, etc. on account of pitbull attacks) that I have EVERYONE around me nag at me about.
First off, if you want to comment on another person's intelligence, make sure you know how to spell. You're right, I know nothing about pit bull training. What exactly are you training them for? What reason do you have for wanting to increase their size, increase their jaw strength, simulate biting on the dog's neck... (not sure which video that was)
there is nothing wrong with this training.. in fact many dogs that perticipate in frisbee competitions are trained in the same manner as this pitbull.... this is used to strengthen the dog's jaw as well as improve it's accuracy.. basic stuff.. i have a cocker spaniel who is a frisbee champ and i train her the same way. It can also be used for protective reasons, it all depends on the owner.
well, if you had read you would have noticed that i had said that it was a natural thing, its a pitbull so what.. if it were a chihuahua doing the same your comment would be that it was cute, but when it's a pit you go into super breed bias mode and spew shit like it will eat children. get a grip
people who are talking about the "agression in this dog", just dont know anything about these dogs...they love to bite, thats for sure....but they wont bite humans without a reason, they are so kind... only people with bad intentions are better without these dogs !!!
danagerous your a dumbass you dont know shit about training please do some research about it before making dumbass remarks...good thing being ignorent doesnt hurt!
You can do bite training with any dog. It doesn't necessarily teach aggressiveness. If I have a robber in my house, I'd hope my dog bites them just like that.
your just the retard that has no clue about the breed and believes all the propaganda you see on TV.. why do you dumb asses think this dog will eat children because he is biting on a rope...
pits are the most awesome athletes!

And to think, that could have been a good dog. I guess if you can't improve yourself, train a pitbull, right? Good boy... eat a kid... good boy....
