There is nothing wrong with going to college, but the kids need to to understand college is more about having a place to socialize than it is for investing in a career. There are exceptions, but going deep into debt to get college degree is a terrible investment. You can go to 2 years of JC and 2 years of state college for less than 20K.

It's not just Oil and Gas jobs either. There's companies like Solarbee offering $50k/yr. even to guys like me who don't have a degree but have a brain and a passion for eco friendly solutions to everyday problems.
I would have applied but I didn't plunge myself into massive amounts of debt so I can survive on my low paying ski bum job in Colorado just fine.

The main problem is that most available jobs are low wage entry-level jobs, and hiring managers refuse to hire university graduates for entry level jobs that don't require a university education.
