@BeatShakerZ Dr. Dre was World Class Wreckin Cru, a quality oldschool electro producer for sure, but pretty sure he was NOT 'Unknown DJ.' Would be interested to know where you heard that from. I mean, I MAY be wrong, though not about World Class Wreckin Cru.
@1988acid In Detroit it was a hodge podge of Chicago House, Miami Bass, New York/Los Angeles Electric Funk and our own Detroit Techno. The electric funk sound had played out in NYC and LA by 1987. This was a track from LA 's Unknown DJ and to most LA folks this track was unknown. Detroit mixes definitely did not sound like Miami i.e. Jam Phony which was pure Bass. In the D we spun dance music faster than our Chicago and Miami contemporaries and we mixed the above genres all together in one mix.
@0franko9 i agree with u,we jammed this muthaphucha in detroit but since i moved to vegas 20 years ago i havent heard basstronic played no where and like you said:unknown dj was a west coast DJ.it is a shame that he is somewhat unknown on the west coast because i think basstronic is one of the best cuts of all time especially the way jesse the body used to bring that shit in on the new dance show mixes
@0franko9 Thanks for the info. Did you guys think that the House sound would end up having such a huge impact around the world? So many people all over the world listen to house now, especially 30 and younger. Its really cool to see things like this to get a better understanding where it came from. I take lots of pride in knowing it started here in Chicago and also in nearby Detroit.
No mate, you gotta learn to look at things in context
of the time. Look back on things and they will inevitably look dated. Maybe in 20 years people will be slagging off the music from 2008!!. This was cutting edge in the 80s. Bands now all sound alike.
Damn. This takes me back. I was a senior in high school back in '89. Eventhough I left for college that summer, and haven't lived in the city since then, hearing REAL techno and house always brinigs my memories back to the D. Regardless of its problems, Detroit will ALWAYS be my home. It would be great to bring a show like this back. The Scene/New Dance Show were certainly a Detroit staples. Aseagris, thanks for posting this man.
Caramba!!!
You're damn right that's Matthew in the "dance line"...I was also very fond of the assymetrical, Salt-N-Pepa harstyle he had back in the day... You are going to the 2nd annual tribute party in Detroit on 4/21, right???
Is that Matthew at 2:30 going down the aisle??? If so, does anyone have any footage when he had that sharp bob haircut that he was known for? I heard he was a hair stylist. Thanks for these clips. I lived for The Scene and The New Dance Show when I was kid. I was glued to channel 62 at 6:00PM every day after school and on Saturday's :-)
i understand havin characters on a show to make it more interesting but too too many the show was the shit need to bring it back leave off the old ass women the draculajamesbrowns and some of the fagbitchniggas maybe one or two some of those mafuckas can dance.

Was Miami Bass popular in Detroit in the late 1980's or was it the House and Techno sound.
