"Caroline" must have been a dancer in some club in an unknown city from wha I get from tis video. Powerful lyrics and the beautiful voice of Johnette Napolitano
send me back to my high school days when this first ripped up the charts.
Wish todays artists would come up with real "meat and potatoes" music like this!
All her songs are so haunting, mysterious, bewitching, matching 110% with her deep, cavernous, velvety voice. 20 years ago from releasing Caroline, I still feel the same -or more- melancholy with these lyrics..that is called real talent
All her songs are so haunting, mysterious, bewitching, matching 110% with her deep, cavernous voice. 20 years ago from releasing Caroline, I still feel the same -or more- melancholy with these lyrics..that is called real talent
I honestly think music thats relevant is actually coming back, people are actually startign to get tired of the constant churning out of crappy pop stars I think bands and singers like Regina Spektor, Bat for Lashes, Florence + the Machine, Cage the Elephant, and the Cold War Kids actually have relevance and they are starting to become popular, some already are just not all over the place popular.
lady gaga? lol who the fuck is lady gaga. i hope that if she hears music like this she will realize she makes the most crappiest noise on earth. it may be catchy but so what? its not worth anything. i think she can better become a pornstar or something looking at her disgusting videoclips
oh my holy god. just listen to those breathtaking vocals, that pure emotion, that SONGWRITING!! magic! Johnette is so extremely talented! in my opinion this is the most beautiful and haunting song ever made. and I mean EVER.
Parece que nos dias de hoje as musica não são musicas! É dificil entende isso! Basta olhas para os ultimos 10 anos, tem alguma musica que marcou até hoje? Dificil!
Antigamente se cantava as? coisas simples, simplesmente musicas, boas letras.

yes muther f'er,...........LISTEN!!! we have the Jonas Brothers and J'Z dominating our airwaves. All you freakin young people............songs have meaning. from the heart. its not SHOTS SHOTS SHOTS. ............May God bless America
the problem now is music, and everything else for that matter, is driven towards the youth market. So now the airwaves are polluted by absolute garbage. Kids today have no idea well most or em...
Johnette was never a classic beauty but she was always amazingly sexy and had a wonderful stage presence. And one can always recognise one of Jame's solos. There will never be another band like Concrete Blonde.
@wynternight777 The thing is when i was a teenager and at first when i saw her i didnt think she was really all that hot, but when i heard her music and especially her voice i had developed a big crush on her that lasted years, so i guess talent makes someone so much more attractive to ppl, thats why i guess mick jagger had been a chick magnet. So pay attention girls, it works the other way around to, all you have to do is sing like johnette and boys will be groveling at your feet.
This is a real woman. A real musician with a hypnotic voice on par with Stevie Nicks. Gaga will be forgotten as fast as Brittney Spears and all the rest of the asinine cunts of the 'business' world..
Concrete Blonde was an alternative rock band based in the United States. They were initially active from 1982 to 1995, and again from 2001 to 2004. They are best known for the poignant songwriting and vocals of Johnette Napolitano.
Reminds me of my misspent youth in smoke filled bars and topless joints trying to figure out who I am. Loneliness and the feeling of being unwanted is the most terrible poverty. Wondering why my family cast me off and then glancing out the window to look at the sky and the beautiful birds, it all goes away. Feeling sorry for yourself, and in the condition I would be in, is not only a waste of energy but the worst habit you could possibly have. It's best to get on with life and love others...
@bigdsears I agree, All the dark seedy places I worked ( even if they were dressed up to be glamorous, they weren't). I knew I had something more for me out there. I just had to learn to grow and do it myself. I did.. So I completely understand ...
This stood out amongst the top 40 trash of the early 90s as well. There's quality bands like this still, fortunately with the internet now they're a lot easier to find.
@Hive5ification Lgaga is a marketing ploy at this moment and the music companies are SUPER Thrilled she has millions of fans. It means $. So theyl use whatever keeps the young captivated as they are. But if you want real music. Check the Lyrics and if the music creates a picture. Lgaga is talented. I mean to get so many fans. But her music is very commercial and has no soul.
@Nevawake I dunno. I like both -- CB is obviously expressing a different range of experiences and was marketed towards a more contemplative audience, but Lady Ga Ga is smart (if you think about wanting a 'bad romance,' it delves into the complicated and alluring nature of cliches; she also went to NYU) and seems to be advocating a chosen life of hedonism as a rejection of an over-logical (controlling) society. Now Ke$ha, fuck that dumb trashy ho and everyone who likes her shitty shitmusiccrap.
@Deettr Distribute the details in each ones point of view. I understand what your getting at. BUT the real deal for me and why i keep coming back to the 80s,90 music. When i listen to this stuff. I go into a place. A poetic place and feel just feel. ITs like the perfect Cake. The instruments, voice, lyrics, mood, story. Lady gaga is talented. I mean u have to be. But some catchy tunes doesnt buy me. Lady gaga is what i go to at the shopping centre. Concrete blonde is where it takes me.
@VampireChai7 please don't compare the two, they're not in the same universe. the beautiful soaring voice of napolitano, the lush guitars and atmosphere of CB, something LG could only dream of. JN is sexy and classy not smutty.
I had this cassette tape and I used to play it over and over in my alpha romero spider. My college years, driving down the highway heading back to college from a long vacation. Looking at the sky with this song blaring out of the speakers. Time was on my side. I'm 43 now, but i'm not old yet.... not yet.
Love the premise of this song. Love the guitar solo. Love Johnette's voice. She can really belt it out. I think this band deserved more credit. Of course the video is true to early 90's fashion, and is amazingly tacky. I just wish there was a video on youtube that had the full version of this song, cuz this one cuts out the beginning of the 2nd verse.
This song is amazing, and I can't believe how many people I talk to, never heard of Concrete Blonde. I thought they were crazy for not knowing, so I send them here to listen. Bloodletting is such a great album, I wish more friends of mine knew who they were. Piece of music history right here.
Thanks for the upload... I think I'll listen to my cd of this tomorrow. :)
damn, i come back a couple months later, knocking back a couple of beers, i can hear all of it in this song. but despair is not the color of the day anymore. is this song about hope? hell, i don't know. it sounds real good, though.
Bloodletting had SO many classic songs. Normally you get 4 or 5 songs that are listenabIe and the rest are dross. On Bloodletting, practically every song was top class. I find it hard to think of any other album with so many brilliant songs.
this is my name and I can't listen to this without crying. The year this came out I was fighting so many demons. She's so beautiful and haunting.
Like another Chrissie Hyde. Not to diss today's young artists but you need to have experienced life before you can sing about it. If you look into all the most epic artists , they have all had some pain or struggle in their life.
so what...most of the bands around today aren't worth listening to, their mostly just rearranged and renamed pieces of the same shit. At least they're original...
I intended to say, ..stunning, fabulous lighting, spot-on editing, the actors complimented each other and the story perfectly. But I won't, 'cause I'd just be saying what we all know!.
SHE, well, re-defines excellence, at every musical excursion.
But, dammit, I'm continually impressed by the brilliant work of the lighting and photography/filming people.
The final product of very capable, talented, 'behind the scenes' collaberation never fails to impress.
who cares whos gay and whos not? my husband laughs at me cuz I can appreciate good looking people with talent regardless of sex! (or color for that matter) talent is talent and hot is hot!! Not many ppl have both and kudos to those who do (Johnnette, Joan Jett etc dont matter) Hip hip hooray for beauty!!!!

Like another Chrissie Hyde. Not to diss today's young artists but you need to have experienced life before you can sing about it. If you look into all the most epic artists , they have all had some pain or struggle in their life.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
A band like this would never break into today's music market

so what...most of the bands around today aren't worth listening to, their mostly just rearranged and renamed pieces of the same shit. At least they're original...

The train had passed the station,
And you were trapped inside...
Yet I never wonder where you went,
I only wonder why,
I wonder why...

Not gay ! Her most recent album is with her husband!

Thank you.
