i think its safe to say they will never release this engine. its been years now. its too bad because there are no more good mmo's out there on the market, everything is WOWafied.
I've played AO since it came out and here in 2011 I still come back to the game to play every once in a while. It's unmatched in its depth and immersion in my opinion, save for EVE Online. But you can log on now and the game is a ghost town, with only a few vets left. If this was only from 5 months ago, why the hell have they not released it to revive the game? Any longer and it won't even be worth it in the end, so I don't understand the delay.
Hope this gets released in a few years so the bastards who love graphics can join the game... Unfourtunetely regardless of anarchy's awesomeness I am one of those bastards.
If this ever sees the light of day, I'll be back like a shot, me and many, MANY others.
I still play on and off, personally, graphics aside its still a great game, it's just tough to bear with for extended periods of time with today's standards. I don't expect it to have awesome, top-notch graphics, but it needs to at least stay presentable.
Looks nice. Too bad it's 3-4 years too late. Most of the players gone already. And the new player experience sucks so badly there's no way anybody new to the game is going to stay...
@Rujopetteri Too late? And this is still not available and we certainly still have to wait one year or more...
Funcom spent few money as possible on the project, they have promised something and they make their customers waiting for YEARS. This is just crazy... Many player have registered and monthly paid thinking the new engine was coming... and funcom don't have gave any date, why? Ahahah.. to make people spending money and hoping something.
For your information AO and AoC both had terrible launches similar to pre-beta stages. Game-breaking issues from AOs early days still remain ..pet pathing? ..failure to zone, move back and try again? Fall damage removed because people mysteriously ended up 10000 meter up in the sky and died when hitting the ground, causing xp loss.
@Rujopetteri i wouldnt say its too late, many people are still playing, like me, and dedicated players will return when i comes out. As for the player experience? Its great if u ask me, i made a new toon, hes lvl 38 now, and when i was around lvl 30, someone came up to me and gave me 2 mil. Your statement may be right in your eyes, but in my opinion, this is still the best game i have ever played. And I agree with you, the new engine does look nice :)
@wervr and still will be cool when it does come out. But by all means go play more wow instead of anarchy when it does come out. I can't stand the simplicity of today's mmos.
Ok, I suspected as much. This video isn't nearly as good as it looked in person. I was at this viewing (I an hear me talking) and I was very impressed, this just lacks the detail to make it awesome. Also, you will note that the he is wearing the light bar, this the square shadow.
The guy with the heavy accent talking at 1:24 is the engine programmer Parsed. The guy talking about filling up memory is Means.

If this game's population increases by a factor of 10, I'll play AO again when this new engine comes out.

Funcom, you are not prospecting your customers

Whatever AO developers only do good job, but funcom's management, marketing and strategy are just HEAVILY questionable.
