I remember this movie started rolling when there was all that hype about D&D with Lord of the Rings. Let's hope now with the release of The Hobbit, people will be interested again and some funds can be found to finally complete Ancanar.
RingFanOne, please release a full version of this film. We don't care if its only a youtube fan film. We'll still love it!!!! We've been waiting for years!!!!
The armor and helm style is a refreshing change from what we've been used to from new line's. The androgynous looking extras that represented the elven soldiers of rivendell did not sit well with me either. If not for Viggo and some other, orlando and those gay looking elven extras would've ruined the movie for me.
Honestly, I follow this project on the web since the first time I saw this(years before) and every time I watch it, I'm impressed! With the song who remind me Below the Ocean(I suppose it's a reworking or something like that;) from David Arkenstone, it's purely Epic!
That's sad that the guys don't have the funds for finishing this movie, because, for me, it's having somewhat who's missing in the blockbuster fantasy movies...
@LinkD3 Hi, and thanks for stopping by! The filmmakers are waiting on funding, which is not easy to come by in the current economy. We remain hopeful! "Ancanar" is a project worth waiting for.
@SirJamesBloodfang Greetings, Sir James ;) All music in this trailer is drawn from David Arkenstone's magnificent "Atlantis" CD. David is an avid "Ancanar" fan and did some original reworking of the score for this trailer. . . .but you'll find the CD tracks very close! Most of the music is from the last 2 tracks of "Atlantis."
WOW! this movie looks AMAZING!!! and the trailor came out in 2005 and its STILL not a move!? GAAAHH!!! thats terrible since I really want to see it NOW!!!
Thanks for your support! We continue to hope and expect that eventually the filmmakers will be able to find the funds needed to produce this amazing story!!
The elves of Tolkien's high fanstasy do not have pointed ears. They are generally distiguished from Man by a certain 'light' in their eyes and grace. Other than that they are hardly distinguishable from Man. That was how Tolkien described his elves in his letters right?
Hi Damian, and thanks for asking! No, the Elves of Ancanar do not have pointy ears, leaf-shaped ears or any other identifying characteristics. The filmmakers wanted to avoid "cliches" with the characters. Personally, I believe the inability to immediately distinguish Elves from Men will add a certain intrigue to the story. Thanks for your interest!
Do elves have leaf shaped ears in this movie?? Not that i believe they do. Thats never been officially affirmed right? I'm ok with the D&D representation of elves but Tolkien's own views of elves are those described in real old world folk tales and poems about 'unfallen people'.
Thanks so much!! My apologies for the late reply. . . . had some issues posting to my YouTube account, but all is working now. We have great hopes for this film! The filmmakers and actors are incredibly talented, and the story. . . . .even the little we know of it at this point. . . .promises to be amazing!
@ShaneBeacham Hi, Shane, and thanks for your support! Everything is about having the money to do it right. The cool thing. . . . and encouraging for Raiya. . . . .is that pretty much everyone who's heard about Ancanar wants to see it happen. So when the funding is there, the fanbase will be waiting! And this film will be worth the wait. . . .;)
No! Ancanar is still in the works, and Raiya's doing some revisions on the script. But.....funding is needed for this film to go forward. I admire that Raiya is patient, and willing to wait to do it right....and of course, that means we also must be patient. Thanks for your support!
Hi, and thanks for your question. I don't recall the track numbers, but all of the Ancanar dev trailer music is taken from the last two tracks on the CD. Great music!
Hi Feanoria! Glad you've found us here. Yes, we've been building an entirely new website & Iaurond Room forum. Exciting stuff! Had a setback this week, though, when the new site was spammed in much the same way as the old site. Ah, well.....we will persevere. I'll post something here when we're ready to take the new site "live."
ive watched the trailers since they came up just for the music and the actors looks great to me i hoped for years to be released but lolz i found out they don't have founds so...i still hope to be released
We also have that hope, Olerus! Thanks for your support. Fan loyalty for this project has been......and I hope will continue to be.....a source of encouragement for the filmmakers!
Hehe....it should! Sam Balcomb, one of the original Ancanar filmmakers, also directed the April Fool's Day "Legend of Zelda" trailer in 2008. Several Ancanar cast members appeared in the "trailer."
Only that we're totally redesigning the website and forum! It's a long process but we think the new features will be worth the wait (much like the film ;).
I'm really excited about this project!!!! I'm working on a story that is inspired by Tolkiens and Lewis' writings. It's called The Chronicles of Gewtaria: The Beginning.
Thanks, Hobbitbox! Ancanar has been in the works for a very long time now, and the only thing holding it back is funding. Raiya is an amazing director, and this story promises to be the best original fantasy film in years! We're all hopeful...and patient ;) Thanks for your kind words and please keep us updated on The Chronicles of Gewtaria: The Beginning. Best wishes to you! Btw, if you haven't yet seen "The Hunt for Gollum" or the "Born of Hope" trailers -- look them up. Grest stuff!
I love the music in this, does anyone know where it is from? I think I can remember on the site (when it was working) that they were writing the music themselves. It's just I think the music at the end of the trailer is amazing and want to add it to my music collection
This may be an old question but is this film still in production because it looks amazing and if i'm honest looks like it has more heart than peter jacksons trilogy.
Yep! If Ancanar could get the investor support to match its fan support, we'd all be headed to the theatres now. Personally, I think the glut of fantasy films (some really bad ones) since LOTR has made it difficult for independent fantasy filmmakers to get their film noticed. We're all keeping the faith!
Actually, Sam and Raiya began this project wanting to make a film called "Elessar" about the years preceding Aragorn's ascent to the throne of Gondor and the demise of the One Ring. However, the Tolkien Estate has serious limitations on what can be produced as a "for profit" movie. They then chose to create an entirely new world for Ancanar....totally original, not set in Middle Earth....yet a world which has the depth and vision that Tolkien used in building Middle-Earth and LOTR.
This is a good opportunity to put in a "plug" for two of my favorite film projects. Chris Bouchard released "The Hunt for Gollum" earlier this year, and Kate Madison will be releasing "Born of Hope" on Dec. 1, 2009 (unless you were lucky enough to see it at RingCon!) Both span the time preceding LOTR and are AMAZING projects,
Yes! With Raiya now the sole director, she is rewriting the script to reflect her own vision for "Ancanar." She says it will be "more magical." We want her to take all the time she needs to do it right!
Ah, yes....about the website. The site was hacked back in March, with significant damage done. Raiya chose to take down the site, but leave the Iaurond Room (discussion forum) in place. When the site is eventually restored, she says it will be easier to navigate and to update.
Ah that's cool! I'm really looking forward to this film. Could you please post the url to that discussion forum here? I really would like to have a look at it! Thanks
Hi! Sorry to have missed your comment. Basically, fate just took Sam in other directions (The Ore, Legend of Zelda, Rainfall Films) and Raiya assumed the director's role. With that responsbility, she has chosen to rewrite the script, keeping much of the original but editing and adding to suit her personal vision for the film. We wish her the best, and know that this film will be worth the wait!
I remember the Ancanar website saying that this was not only inspired by Tolkien but that it also took place in Beleriand in the 1st Age. I guess they had to revamp that premise as they can't claim to use ANY of Tolkien's work w/out specific permission from the Tolkien estate.
To my knowledge, Ancanar has never been set in Tolkien's world. However, I do believe that Ancanar is a "parallel" to the 1st Age, meaning simply that it is an entirely separate story that could have occurred somewhere else during that same Age.
There were no men at 1st age dude, at least no men like in this movie, 1st age was an age of stars, and i suppose the race of men was just a bunch of monkeys at the 1st age of Middleearth
He did say 'parallel' but I think you're right about the stars. But the race of Men didn't evolve in Arda, they were created by Illuvatar(just like how God created man on Earth).
The score is adapted by David Arkenstone from his amazing CD "Atlantis" especially the last two tracks. He's a great composer and an Ancanar fan himself.
See Ancanar's Gregory Lee Kenyon star in this post-apocalyptic short film trilogy. Freakin' awesome! youtube.com / swinemovie
