Yes Metallica and Megadeth had a similair sound. Mustaine was in Metallica for only a brief however and when Kirk Hammet jumped from Exodus to Metallica, Metallica's sound began to change. Megadeth has had close to the same sound since the 80s. Fortunately for them, it's a sound that kicks ass.

No their not... Dave just wanted to start his own band after they kicked hum out of Metallica, because Dave Mustain helped Metallica write basically every song off Kill Em All he brought his sound into the band so yeah they might sound alike. And Metallica as a band might kick Metallica's ass, but the individual musicians don't. Kirk Hammet sucks at lead guitar and Dave Mustain is way better. But Hetfield's singing is way better than Mustaine's.

St. Anger is actually pretty okay. And Death Magnetic sounded too...idk. like they ripped of slayer on some songs. like they did the whole "play power chords really fast with a few easy riffs layered over it" type thing. Plus the quality is horrendous :P still it is a good metal album. I like megadeth better, but Death MAgnetic isn't as bad as some people say it is.

Slayer have slowly tuned their guitars down more and more over the years and have gotten a little slower. Iron MAiden has sucked dick since after mid 90s. And Testament changes a little each album: They've been progressive, thrashy, heavy, they've even gone to almost death metal type stuff.
