SRXT is short for Seroxat, an anti depressant, with an odd side effect of sometimes causing suicide... Yes, stupid, but they are complex drugs.
The song is thinking about suicide. Sorry to crush anyone who thinks it's about hope.
Listen to the lyrics and it's apparent.
It's mainly about Kele being disaffected about being a gay male romantic in a fast paced world. I know, I have been there. It's still a stunning song, in a melancholic way.
how can people dislike this song? seeing that red bar made me a bit angry, then the song brought me back to feeling good :) love you bloc party, get off hiatus soon <3
This song reminds me of a woman I approached on Bank Station! Her name was Laura Carmen, and she was half Spanish, ah, she was so beautiful. It was quite ironic though, that I met her on Bank Station. Typical!
That's not all though, whether it's Florence and the machine, Mumford and Sons or countless others, we have all the exclusive interviews and live gigs...
SRXT Stands for Seroxat, an anti-depressant, and this song is about suicide.
It strikes an odd chord in me everytime I hear it, and makes me want to cry, yet I can't stop listening to it. I never heard a band quite like Bloc Party, and they better not ever stop doing what they are doing.
Perfect ending to the album, which in my opinion is a pretty much perfect album. It has the feel of being young, going out and getting wrecked with your friends at night in the summer, and this is when you are coming home at half 4 in the morning with the sun coming up and everything seems to be fine.
I fucking love this song. I listen to this on the bus going home and while i'm looking outside the window, i see the world like moving pictures, and then i begin to realize that life is so good despite of all bullshit that has happened. and then suddenly i'll feel all right.
@Maleknia I used to think the same, but if you really try to let it 'grow on you', 2:32 is where the true excellence of the song begins. The drum build-up and climactic ending just sounds so powerful and proud. It's sad, yet hopeful, and that's why it's so good.
Bloc Party, in my opinion, only have around 3 or 4 genuinely bad songs in total, and those ones are all from their younger years... which would make sense.

@atextarte Oh for goodness sake. It's amazing how many times comments like this have been going around Bloc Party and Muse songs. Yes the whole song is good, but I think the best part is 3:00 - 4:00.
=] I was listening to the instrumental of this when the plane was taking off on my holiday to Barbados 2 weeks ago and I'm still in Barbados listening to it again!! Yaay me! =D

My friend, James Campbell, just committed suicide today.
I cannot believe he is gone. He was just a happy person and it strikes me dumbfounded that he would off himself.
I will miss you, James. 1993-2011

does srxt stand for something?
grayman802 1 year ago
@grayman802 Serxant (a anti-depressant drug, that causes suicide, like all anti-depressant drugs)
theTG 1 year ago
@theTG They don't cause suicide. The antidepressant makes people motivated to do things with themselves.
Unfortunately a lot of people who are depressed the main thing that they have been thinking about is suicide.
Everyone put onto any medication like antidepressants needs to be very carefully monitored.
