  • Who's bright idea was it to build a major airport in the middle of a tightly-packed city anyway?

  • The gas station in question WAS on the NE corner of 55th and Central, the CV340 was lined up for 13 R. That lot has been vacant for as long as I can remember. He really was low!!! Even the runway light stancion located across 55th on the airport proper appears taller than this sign! The Convair continued to break apart up to the old fire station. The Southwest 737 was landing on 31C (the former 31 L) and came OFF at THIS end, but swerved onto Central adjacent to the intersection with 55th.

  • South West did a similar thing at Midway a few years back, but they landed hot and long. That runway is only about 6000 feet long. That is OK but there is no real overrun and then there's a barracked, a street and yes gas station (probably the same location as this Braniff). The the South West landed long and hot and went across the street and hit the station. Hitting short at flight speed is more deadly, than an overrun. With the South West accident only one or a few were killed on the ground.

  • wow ...i dont know what to say about something like this!!!RIP
