@GettingFitWithJason We stilllll need to go see a movie! lol I'm just waiting for a good one to come out and you'll be hearing from me! And then you can see my little Duffy! ;)
Sally, I'm not sure which is cuter. You or Duffy? Duffy of course! :p Haha hey ur pretty cute yourself but, but Duffy looks so fluffy. :) Anyhoo, I need to get me a pocket chihuahua pronto!
@Joshuai11 I have a year old chihuahua and she is the least violent dog I've ever known. She is extremely loving and cuddly, and never barks. It depends what breeder you get the puppies from and the puppy's personality. When I choose a dog, I look for one that is not very vocal, not a lot of barking, doesn't roughhouse too much, but will fight back if another little puppy plays too rough with them etc. You want to look for a well-balanced and well mannered puppy.
@Joshuai11 A lot of it has to do with how you train the puppy too. I used to take my puppy out on errands everywhere I could. I would take Gizzy to Shoppers Drug Mart allll the time, along with Home Depot, and even clothing stores.... wherever they would allow a small dog, I would bring her. And people would stop by and pet her and she got very used to meeting new people. I would let them pet her and so she is not apprehensive of strangers.
@Joshuai11 I want to also say, it is equally important that puppies are socialized with other dogs and puppies. So obedience school and puppy parks are good places for that socialization to take place. Try starting out by meeting quieter, well-mannered older dogs, and then move onto more energetic dogs and puppies. Gizzy had some problems with meeting smaller more energetic dogs, as her buddy was a large and much older bulldog. :) You kind of learn as you go! :)
@Joshuai11 I think it's those owners that don't take their responsibilities seriously that make them violent. Knew someone who adopted one that hadn't been cared for properly, then turned around and didn't train it at all because she figured it didn't need training because it was too small to hurt anyone. Sure enough it bit a child and she had it taken away from her. Was no getting through to her... she said, "It was only a scratch.". Seems like too many are kept as accessories and not as pets.
@siclos@Joshuai11 Yes that's exactly it. Because chihuahuas look so tiny and innocent as a puppy, most owners do not take discipline very seriously with them. And so they are allowed to get away with things because of their small size. For example, you wouldn't allow a great dane to jump on you or visitors to your home, but you may allow your chihuahua to do it, because they are so small. I NEVER allow my dogs to jump on anyone. In my opinion, it's rude, regardless of how small they are.
I love your Duffy and you as well!
