I think this is going to be the next step in the history of mankind But tbh, as long as we don't know how to handle our own planet, then we shouldn't go out into space and ruin other's! We don't deserve something like this at the moment
We do know how to handle our own planet. We just refuse to do so because it's not a profitable investment. In other words, if we didn't have a monetary system, pollution would not be a problem.
Your assumming that the earth is a better place to perform operations from. 1/6th gravity and no atmosphere Is perfect for mass drivers and even a hundred times less costly as sending up peices of a ship using rocket propellants. Besides the moon would be a better place to colonize before over reaching in the name of exploration. Apollo 13 showed us the importance of not over reaching.

Why worry about going all the way to Gaspra instead of the moon? It would be safer to not put so much distance between yourself and safety.
