I cant stop watching the documentary haha. I cant download it though cos my computer wont play it for some reason? So I just keep going to the website. Its awesome :) I really really hope they do another tour :D
I've been racking my brain trying to watch the documentary. Blaming my old computer and lack of tech skills until it occurred to me....the problem is not on my end.
Looking forward to tuning when it's up and running.
Has anyone else had problems watching the documentary? I've tried to watch it on the Causecast website but it doesn't work (constantly stops and starts). Tried downloading it as well but that didn't work either.
I've been a huge conor oberst fan for quite some time. I love the new music with the Mysic Valley Band and the lyrics are just as amazing as ever. I loved this video and it even motivated me to write a song myself called eagle on a pole...haha...i think everyone should!
Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band have donated the documentary "One Of My Kind" for FREE, in the hope that you will make the donation to the nonprofit of your choice. Donations are 100% tax-deductible and Causecast does not take a fee. Choose from one of our nonprofits here.
And I just can't pass the message.. what should I do? : (
The website has a video player to stream the movie in HD, and that has always worked. It's the downloads that we are working on (again the bittorrent link works if you have torrent software).
You can see the film FREE, donations are optional (Conor gave the doc for free in the hope that you make a donation instead).
Thanks for the comments, we couldn't be more thrilled! We've had some issues enabling the download this morning, but those will be rectified in just a few hours.
For the time being, you can view the film for free at Causecast. We'll be sending out an e-mail later today to everyone who signed up when the download links are functional again.
Thanks again to all of you for making 'One Of My Kind' a tremendous online video event!
Will someone please upload this documentary somewhere for me to download in HD, I can't get the podcast to work or the free download link on the website, it says it won't be available until May 11 because it's over it's download limit. Fuck.
The film is available to stream on the site at any time, along with the bittorrent link.
We had such a huge response that our servers are overloaded, so please check back later today on the site and through iTunes, and it'll be available for direct download soon.
I think this will make a lot of people more accepting of their CD. A lot of Bright Eyes fans didn't take his 'southern' direction very well, but I imagine that some context to the album will change that.
What do you mean? I'm just saying that a lot of Bright Eyes fans didn't get what they wanted in this project because it sounds completely different from his other albums. I'm not saying that everyone dislikes the CD, I myself have been listening to his work for about 5 years now and I think it's phenomenal.
There is just as much artistic value in this CD as in any previous one, but unfortunately a good number of people (in my experience) can't get past the "country" sound he's taken on.
So ultimately getting some context to the influences that created the album (environment, people, sights and sounds) will help people break through their prejudice of the music. I'm a visual artist, but in my opinion all art - music, paintings, or poems - becomes much more accessible with some insight into their motivations.
im saying if you look at bright eyes albums, the style changes very dramatically from letting off the happiness too cassadaga, so i dont understand why some bright eyes fans arnt into MVB, if they simply dont like it then w/e there choice, but musically speaking its not much of a drastic change from cassadaga ,there were some more southern tracks there for sure
, im just pointing out that its not odd for conor too change slight genre. and i thought bright eyes fans would be used too that.
I'd argue that Mr. Oberst has always had a strongly country/folk-y sound, starting all the way back with Letting Off The Happiness. Anyone who's just noticed it now really couldn't have been paying attention in the first place. Personally, I'm a big fan of everything he's done so far, and I hope he and his various band mates keeps it up for a very long time.
I totally agree, I mean come on he was wearing a cowboy hat & boots when he sang When the President Talks to God on Leno in what like 2000 or something. Kudos Conor, Best Wishes in all you do!
He wrote that around 2006, actually. Oberst is from Omaha and so he certainly carries a western sound to his music, but to claim that he's always leaned so far towards country is not so accurate. His earlier work doesn't really fit that description until Lifted. If you go through A Collection of Songs, none of them have that distinct country influence you now hear.
All I mean to say is that it's an aspect of his music that has slowly developed into a central theme, some people don't like that.
I cant seem to find the documentary on your website anymore. Has it been removed? Is there anywhere else I can find it?
