Ford needs another Flagship vehicle instead of making $50,000+ Mustangs (Shelby can stay).
I want to see direct competition because it only makes these cars better. Both Ford and Honda are profitable right now however neither is interested in making a performance machine for that part of the market.

Ford aren't asking for bail-outs *yet*. They got lucky by selling off brands like Jaguar, AM and Mazda to raise fast money but they're in dire financial straits themselves and have some pretty huge debts that are due for payment in the next 24 months. Their strategy was to buy time and hope that the public starts buying new cars again - if that doesn't happen they'll go the same route GM and Chrysler have already been through, except they'll be a few years behind them in recovery terms.
A few years behind ? Thats pretty negative for the guys who at least had to foresight to prepare for a crisis by having marketable brands they could SELL rather than dissolve and remove completely from the market. At cost to themselves.
The bottom line is, Ford WILL survive. Their cars don't even need to be top of the line (although you can see quality increasing with other brands), their government contracts / truck sales will keep them afloat.

when you say compete, which model are u talking about as ford needs to keep bringing out a total of 6 models of a make that ever other manufacturer only makes 3.
What model does ford have 6 variants of ? Mustang ? V6 - GT - Shelby. Roush / Saleen are independant versions. And as with EVERY other maufacturer there are options for each. It ALSO means more people can get a car they want... be it nostalgia of owning a mustang, or getting the mild V8 they want, or the real muscle car... depending on what they can afford.

Ford aren't asking for bail-outs *yet*. They got lucky by selling off brands like Jaguar, AM and Mazda to raise fast money but they're in dire financial straits themselves and have some pretty huge debts that are due for payment in the next 24 months. Their strategy was to buy time and hope that the public starts buying new cars again - if that doesn't happen they'll go the same route GM and Chrysler have already been through, except they'll be a few years behind them in recovery terms.

A few years behind ? Thats pretty negative for the guys who at least had to foresight to prepare for a crisis by having marketable brands they could SELL rather than dissolve and remove completely from the market. At cost to themselves.
The bottom line is, Ford WILL survive. Their cars don't even need to be top of the line (although you can see quality increasing with other brands), their government contracts / truck sales will keep them afloat.

What model does ford have 6 variants of ? Mustang ? V6 - GT - Shelby. Roush / Saleen are independant versions. And as with EVERY other maufacturer there are options for each. It ALSO means more people can get a car they want... be it nostalgia of owning a mustang, or getting the mild V8 they want, or the real muscle car... depending on what they can afford.

Convertibles, "Premium" editions, are just options on a stock model. They dont count as a sperate model, but a variation, such as corvette targa / convertible is 1 model.
The bullit, warriors in pink, Shelby Gt500KR are all limited edition, not production cars, hardly count toward models. But even so, -6- models. At least 15 ? I think your lineage effects your abilities at simple math

Saleen / Roush aren't Ford models... a Gt500 is the same as a KR, as the KR is a just an option package.
I am not denying vettes are great cars... I am actually looking into a C5 Z06 as my new car when winter is over. Beautiful machines. People just talk as if the corvette is a glorious god for beating a mustang. It's expected. People should be humble such cheap machines (other than the outragousely priced super snake) can even come close to hanging with lighter sports car that cost 2x more

-all 3 are amazing & the Corvette is the fastest because of the tires, BUT that does not mean it's my favourite. im not arguing it's speed, im just saying that there are about 100+ Corvettes on the road for every Viper SRT10 or Ford GT.
plus, Corvettes are the ugliest American super/sport cars.
Ferrari's & Lamborghini's can be beaten by some American super cars, but does that mean they are any less appealing? not at all..

Mustangs & Corvettes are in completely different classes; Corvettes are super/sports cars & Mustangs are muscle/pony cars - they have no business being compared with each other - they are not intended for the same things. super/sport cars = top speed + aerodynamics + 1/4 mile, while muscle/pony = 0-60mph + engine noise.

Corvette is the best bang for the buck, but it is also the most seen of the 3 American super cars. i would take a Ford GT or Viper SRT10 over 2 Corvette Z06's simply because there are like 1000 Corvettes on the road for every 1 Ford GT or Viper SRT10.
-im not saying the Corvette is worse, im saying that [besides the ZR1], Corvettes are about as rare & unique as a Honda Civic.. not much appeal in that regard.. :/

@yuskjr I cant disagree with you there, however I don't see the corvette Z06 as a supercar. If we're going to bring in the term supercar, then obviously the ZR1 comes into play (which is just as rare as the ford GT and Viper). And referring to your comment about the corvettes not having as much appeal, you are right, but if you are buying the car for its purpose (track), then a Z06 is financially smarter and will get you further for the money in the end. Similarly, I'd take a forGT over the Z06

-Z06's are pretty common in what i have experienced; there are 5 that i know of in my town alone, & i've seen ~15 Z06's in my 40ish trips from college [Cincinnati, OH] to home [Fair Lawn, NJ] & vise/versa - around one Z06 every other trip - they're really not all that rare now-a-days..
-ZR1's are rare; i have only seen 1 in NYC, & nowhere else..

Corvettes are the "best bang for the buck" [as said in my above comment..] in terms of performance, but they [in my opinion] offer almost no feeling of individuality because of how over-populated they are [comparatively]. i'd still enjoy it & speed with it, but i'd always have this looming sense of being commonplace or standard.
