@TrevorEngage as i lay dying wer the first people i liked hearing the clean vocals from, and they do it without being gay in anyway, thats fuckin awsome
@NeCoruption true, but i mean sounding hella whiny and almost boy band-ish like Sleeping with sirens or something. but im sure they will never stoop to that level of gayness
i agree with everyone, josh was probably one of the best things to happen to as i lay dying his vocals are just such a great fit to the bad and i really hope in there future records they add more clean vocals,
@KlementinProductions Ya know im pretty sure those arent the words but hell....I dont even want to know them because "I AM A WOOKIE" is x10 more epic and brutal than whatever they are! lol
Melodine and or Autotune are ALWAYS used in professional recordings. It's all about how much of it is used. It can be used to just slightly correct pitches (ex. moving a note a half step up) or to totally drown a voice (ex. T-Pain).
who's hating on Josh for his vocal performance? I thought he was great. I'd like to see some of these other people sing an entire show the way he does at the register he does.
I want to see all you people attacking his singing have perfect sound when you cant even hear yourself, you've been jumping and moving all around, played multiple songs before hand, played multiple shows in a week and your playing an instrument....
getting josh was truly the best thing for as i lay dying. his vocals add so much more to their music. i've always love as i lay dying, but an ocean between us and the powerless rise blew me the fuck away because the choruses were so much stronger with his voice. the guitar riffs are also better. i really like how as i lay dying gets better and better on each album.
@imruLBM watch the documentairy of the band, they always strive to play PERFECT every time they are the most driven band i know and they beat themselves and critisize themselves if they find they didnt play right or according to their satisfaction on a show
I don't know why people are ripping on Josh and saying he has autotune or isn't nailing the notes. Singing that high isn't easy, especially while playing an instrument. Shit, I can BARELY hit those notes myself, and I'm not even playing bass. He's a great vocalist, and his clean vocals really compliment Tim's screams.
was here, but in the balcony this time. last time they played at the lincoln was with the human abstract and protest the hero. got as i lay dyings setlist, protests drummers stick.
Actually its not autotune at all. Instead of Josh going from low to high right away in the studio version, he stay in a higher pitch so for example instead of going from a C to a D He'd go to from a C to an A fluctuate between the notes D and A.
(This probably makes no sense to people who don't know too much about keys and tonality :b)
OMG! just a legendary band! that solo by Nick Hipa.. I'm speechless.. He's a genius <3 and stop complaining on clean vocals, Josh sounds amazing! you go there on stage and sing to see how hard it is, maybe you'll shut up then.
Josh is freaking good. He sings very good on clean vocals and puts so much personality into his voice and he also has to play the bass at the same time. And Tim is freaking amazing I can usually tell its AILD just by his personality and voice.
(And that it's Austrian Death Machine by his voice and the Ahhnold lyrics) XD
In the studio recordings there isn't really autotune for this band. When it comes down to it, Josh is a good vocalist, so they add filters and effects to his voice to blend it into the music, and sound "dreamy". I don't think they actually need to autotune him at all. Just compare his raw vocals from the powerless rise clip #1 to the parallels studio release. Its the same thing, no pitch changes, just the blending effect.
I think a lot of people are over critical with vocals... Being a guitarist and vocalist both (not together) I know that its MUCH easier to play an instrument live over and over with the same results... however, your voice is a group of muscles, like any they get sore and worn out and some shows will be better than others. ESPECIALLY with this genre of music. Also how the venue mics your voice and returns the signal to your monitor makes a world of difference.
I think hes actually getting better at singing all the time. I like how it's not just a constant note like their other songs. It has the same feel but it's different
The key he's singing in (clean vox) is pretty high for a dude. Plus, considering that there was probably no auto tune, mixing or layering behind his voice live, he's pretty spot on! MUCH more than I can say about all this Kanye West/Britney Spears/Lady Gaga bullshit that pollutes the the radio and MTV these days. I have yet to see these guys live, but I can tell from videos like this (even with shitty audio) that they are one of the tightest bands around, hands down.
I'm not saying live, but in the recording studio I can almost guarantee you that they do use auto tune on the clean vox. I know because I've recorded professionally. When the tracks are mastered, the vocals are ran through all kinds of filters and processors, to include auto tune. I'd say at least 90% of professional, touring, bands/musicians (even metal bands) have used auto tune at some point or another in the studio.
horrible clean vocals....and its not only this show....he can't pull it off anywhere....shows what the studio can do for you lol :P....rest of the band sounds great as usual
@ImrulBM What are you talking about? He hit almost every note in this video. Yes, I agree that in some other ones it's bad, but you have to factor in that maybe the bad performances were later in the tour, or that the sound on stage was bad. Have you ever tried singing and playing an instrument at the same time live? If you can't hear yourself, it's extremely difficult to sing the correct notes perfectly, and if you're playing an instrument, you can't even plug one ear to help.
@BraddyVengeance You do have valid arguments but its just disappointing to hear great clean vocals on the album and not get something close live. Its not just AILD, I saw soilwork live once and strid's cleans sounded like shit as well......the only person who can live upto the studio clean vocals is Mikael from Opeth.
@BraddyVengeance Yeah you are right man, and he done a great job at this show. The whole band did. When everyone else starts singing it doesn't sound to great tho haha
@ImrulBM He can pull it off. It just takes him longer to reach those high notes. Have you ever tried singing like that. Its actually really fucking difficult. Take your bullshit smartass comments elsewhere.
This is also coming from someone who doesn't really pay to much attention to this band.
