the whole idea of a bagpipe band is not Scottish but British in nature. The highlanders had one to three pipers in each clan at most, and rarely more than 3 marching into war. The idea in the British school of thought was to have the bagpipers conform to their preconceived ideas of a musical group. This is why when you see the Black Watch, a British dominated bagpipe and drum band, you will hear the pipes as a secondary to the standard British marching band instruments.. sounds nice though :)

The production is ridiculous. Why can't they just show the performance from start to finish without a stupid montage of footage from before, after, and during their performance? Have we become that MTV-ish? Just show them playing together, from various angles, focusing on the flourishing tenors sometimes - after all, they provide visuals - and focusing on the unison of all the players, etc. This camerawork/production really spoils the video for me. I'm sorry but it's stupid.

Anybody can win it on the day and Shott's are never to be underestimated, neither are SLOT or the the other big bands.Drone sound my arse, you obviously dont play the pipes my friend if you listen closely it's all well balanced, and the recording does not give the sound quality of a live display of playing.

I honestly thought they were the best all round on the day, although the mid section from the polis were outstanding, and shotts mid was a let down. the Piping from shotts was prob on a par withh fmm but as a band a bit of a let down once more, as for sfu i'd more like to see 78th frasers do it at glasgow green

drones drones drones...is that all it takes to win grade 1...even the man than said they had a hypnotic drone sound when he commentated on the worlds a couple of years ago had them first...and as for the content of the medley...probably the seagulls in greenock couldve whistled that''great medley'' to you...not only does the drones hide some dodgy chanters ..it hided some dodgy playin as well...can't wait til S.F.U come over and we get to hear a real pipe band

SFU are a great band too, and I think they'll probably retain thier title as World Champs but it all just depends on the day. I'm just looking forward to a good day and a great competition as should you.

FM are a REAL band, I think thier previous World Championships are proof of that. As are any band that was competing on the day a REAL band.

Just enjoy listening to them all!

Well said Jobbie. TARTANCAM, your comments stink of jealousy. To criticise the content of their set is absurd; there's a good mix of traditional and novel tunes here. While their chanters may not be quite at their usual very high standard of tuning, they're still are set very, very well. I feel that a band that hasn't finished outside the top 2 at the worlds in the last 7 years is deserving of a bit more respect than you give them. Oh by the way, it's commented, not commentated.
