It is thought to have existed in what is now Lebanon as a ritual or gathering where men used to hit with their feet on large pieces of wood in order to tighten them firmly so that it would be used in building homes. I haven't been to a wedding in years, I desperately need to dance the dabkeh!!!! I've been to all kinds of parties, and honestly, I still think that we Levantine Arabs know how to party best :-D I envy people who live in the Middle East, they get to go to weddings and parties (sahras) all the time.
