@chengyanslc That is the standard for Italian lute tablature. It wouldn't be odd if you had learned on it from the start.

Nice tutorial! But how do you read tab with letters? I found a website where they give free lute songs in tab but with letters?

@witboek a is open string, b 1st fret, c 2nd, etc
place of letters is above the lines but still means the corresponding string
this way of notating is known as English/French style
