  • It seems that the tablature is upside down. Standard notation is much better when available:

  • @chengyanslc That is the standard for Italian lute tablature.  It wouldn't be odd if you had learned on it from the start.

  • Nice tutorial! But how do you read tab with letters? I found a website where they give free lute songs in tab but with letters?

  • @witboek a is open string, b 1st fret, c 2nd, etc

    place of letters is above the lines but still means the corresponding string

    this way of notating is known as English/French style

  • @witboek French lute tablature. Letters represent frets. A is open, b is '1', c is '2', etc. Google 'reading lute tablature with letters' and click the first link. Cheers. :)
