What a sound! Few could take and control such powerful top notes! It is a miracle... so many lesser tenors could simply crumble under the pressure. This man takes it all in his passionate stride! BRAVO!
And, just think - there are certain people who are actually "allergic" to these notes. That only shows that those people do not like, or understand, or have no conception or appreciation of what truly magnificent spinto Italian tenor singing is all about! Bravi Mario e Franco!!!
Saluti.
I know that,I´m a musician :),but I only want to know what note is written in the score,it depends also if th tonality is C # major or Db Major,do you know what is written?
Not a high tenor? Check out his Celeste Aida (for a ravishing diminuendo on the closing high D-flat, uploaded by tehen162) or his thrilling Di Quella Pira (several recordings available), alternately the climactic shared high C in In Questa Reggia (his 'duels' with Nilsson were the stuff of legend.
Unfortunately there are very rare high notes available of him. Mostly he had problems to climb... But for shure he is the most powerful singer in all pitches. That is his property. And if he got the high note, than he was the best.
The only thing he ever did that wasn't perfect was making the approach more obvious at times, but given the results and so many examples it is safe to say that he only did that when it was absolutely necessary due to moisture levels, stress levels, sickness/tiredness of the voice, etc.
He pretty much (99.99%) always brings up the buoyancy and depth of the prior or a lower note - sometimes it was more obvious than others. But it is the RIGHT thing to do.
Yeah, I think even he knew Questo o quella wasnt supposed to be that way, but I actually found it really enjoyable, because a dramatic voice just shouldnt have that kind of flexibility, but Franco's somehow did.
Certainly another one I could have included! But if I put in all I wanted the video would have went for hours:) So I just went with a few of my favorites.
These are all wonderful selections--and of course there are the almost impossibly bravura highs like those in arias from Gli Ugonotti and I Puritani ordinarily taken in falsettone or head voice as was the bel canto tradition.
I don't know much about opera. Can you tell me the name of the last 3 pieces?

I didn't like any of the songs in this video. The best ones I've heard are "Celeste Aida" "Nessun Dorma" and "Desserto Sulla Terra"

I like how the picture is of him tasting soup with a poodle, in contrast to the epic masculinity of his voice.

"Virile and Masculine" yes, but you picture him in the kitchen, wearing an apron, with a poodle?

Who had a bigger voice between corelli, del monaco, lanza, and caruso?
AZo9jojo 2 years ago
@AZo9jojo
It's a close one between Corelli and Monaco. I can't even choose a certain one.

Thank you so much for sharing with us. I do not know anything about c notes d notes depths etc. I do know that Franco sings like an angel. Heavenly

How can you, people, listen to this treasure and discuss notes and pitches? It's disrespectful.

Great, GREAT stuff. Corelli was a fantastic tenor. Barring a miracle, we shan't see his like again --

He sings a powerful high D flat in the duet of Un Ballo in Maschera by Verdi,it´s the final note
danicemo 2 years ago 2
it's a c in the score. not a d-flat.
JuillHope17 2 years ago
I think a C sharp is written in the score(wich is the same note than a D flat) but I don´t remember if is a C sharp or not,do you know wich note is?
danicemo 2 years ago
In an orchestral environment or any non-tempered environment -
C# is actually oh-so-slightly higher than D flat.
The C# leads up to the D and the D flat leads down to the C is the explanation.

Sorry, no.
:*(
I will find out though.
wotan3000 2 years ago
I´d like to hear a C# and a D by corelli. Dod he lose power above the high C, he was not a high tenor but a very powerful mid tenor.
jowox 3 years ago
No he did not loose power at all in that region. Check out his Granada.

D flat in Celeste Aida?? Should be B flat.

It is a bullshit. Listen to his concerts in the begining of 1970. He never had problems with high notes.
dilvishselar 2 years ago
Are you joking? He had the greatest high notes of any tenor, PERIOD!
tdeane34 2 years ago 3
You must be thinking of someone else.
The only thing he ever did that wasn't perfect was making the approach more obvious at times, but given the results and so many examples it is safe to say that he only did that when it was absolutely necessary due to moisture levels, stress levels, sickness/tiredness of the voice, etc.

wotan3000 2 years ago
Thank you wotan3000 for your understanding in your first sentence.
For me he is the best singer for ever!!!
But f.e.: I love "O holy night" and he was the only one which avoided the high not at the end of this song.

@LordMoe9 that questo quella is from a live performance in his latest years, anyway as you said, that song is not for his voice

Ah yes, most composers never expected a voice like Corelli would ever exist to sing them as he did.
