Quad cores can be inefficient compared to dual core processors when those core are not utilized (dead weight) however each core operates at its designated frequency, also depending on multiplier, hence all 4 cores can and will operate at 2Ghz+, look into the core i7 (Intel Turbo Boost) which shuts cores down based on use application, and overclocks itself. If you don't have a second graphics card for PhysX, then don't use PhysX.

I have two 9800GX2s, and PhysX games only work well if I disable SLI and dedicate one of the cards to PhysX, then it runs a lot nicer.

since this game is using Nvidia physX alot i recomend geting a Nvidia card if ur going for jsut this game, i myself ogt and ATI HD 3850x2 and it runs at like 20fps even if its low or high, but ive hard that thats optimization problems with the game and not hardware btu as mentioned its kinda mde for Nvidia card.

I've had Killzone 2 since it was released. I just played the demo of this game today. I truly think this game is better looking. The effects like snow and water and such are incredibly well done. I like the animations as well.

Physics computations are just a bunch of floating point operation that can be performed in parallel, just like graphical computations. Since a GPU is already outfitted to do a such thing, there is no reason to believe it would be slow at such an application, which is why nVidia decided to use their GPUs to perform these calculations. Obviously another, dedicated processor would be faster, but so would an additional graphics card, which would bring you more graphical performance as well.

Physic Cards need other Chips then Graficcrads have - Like CPU and Graficcard.

Try to let a Quadcore CPU to render a actual Game, you will get 2 things:

- almost no fps

- crapy effects too

AND the CPU has way more Transistors then the Graficcard, and a much higer clock too - still its way slower in grafics.

Original PhysX was a high optimiced Chip for Physics and AI.

Just because the games, that said they can use PhysX were more a joke to that card, it dosent mean anything.

There is a lot of other Software using the PhysX and at them, you cant even get the nVidia PhysX to work.

The reason is simpel - the card has no PhysX at all. So nVidia would have the cpu to do everything (everything real physX is done by the cpu at nVidia PhysX - all left is just the PhysX Engine). But these highly optimiced Software, would show you - if they made there Drivers work there, that nVidia PhysX is just a joke and only the name - not more and less.

Difference is that Nvidia bought up AGEIA and now is relaunching it. So it is all software driven and Cell is to weak to do anything special. Why unreal tournament 3 doesnt have special physics like PC version nor any other game on PS3 even does a fraction of Cryostasis

2x 4870 graphic cards as can be seen in the ATI cinema 2.0 realtime demonstration of Ruby (cars, robot and chick), scorpion raytracing done with 8xSSAA at 1920x1080 resolution. It is measured that you would need 24-36x PS3 to do the same at 1280x720.

Becouse a single 4870 graphic card has 1200GFlops perfomance and PS3 just a puny peak of perfomance of 176GFlops for cell and RSX is worthless for this stuff.

Someone mentioned getting a new computer alltogether, but you could still use your CPU, HDD and probably your RAM, too.

However, your motherboard is a bit bad. I'd say that, unless you wanna get a new computer, you should get a decent mobo with SLI (or even better: 3-way SLI) and get one more graphic card.

In case you buy a mobo with 3-way SLI you could buy a good graphic card (new 40nm cards in april) and use the one you have now for physics, and then get another new one later. ;)

On my PC, at 1440x900 resolution, everything on High and turned on, I average about 30 frames per second in this test (all done in real-time).

My PC isn't a beast, either. My specs are:

AMD 64-bit 4800+

2 GB RAM

8800 GTX

I'm Medium-end, if not lower going by today's standards. I still can't believe I can touch 30 FPS because this game just looks incredible. The water effects are easily the best I've ever seen in any game period.
