This is an incredible video! Pitrates is underated modern day masterpiece that many in my day could not grasp or understand. I salute the author of this vid and say solemly that you touch a deep part of me with this. Cheers to ELP, prog Gods, music heroes and truest of artists of all time.
Thank God for real musicians who know how to play!
x factor ....got talent nil! ELP roolz! They have more talent in their little fingers thanall the dross that makes the money as we speak.to those who deride them I say, you are impoverished by your lack of understanding of real quality music.
To those who realise just how great they were, and and are still,
we are blessed by their legacy and the almost unfathomable musicality
One of the best and most legendary epic songs there is to date. Love how the song makes me sail on sea as pirate right from the start, really greatly done.
My Core to the Core and Inner bonds to the Stile, The Age Yes after Time and a Word took on the presence in the Studio in Astral Child Angel ... Utrecht is een gevallen Stad Dus pas op.
Fantastic.....Saw Works Volume 1 Tour at Cobo Arena Detroit June 1st 77..........still by far one of the best shows I have seen in my life! Time magazine did a story on it and I have the copy ! THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ELP '77 Tour, I saw them in NYC, Madison Square Garden. This song was excellent as well as Fanfare. Watching this video brings back many, many memories.
I was at both shows in '77 at Cobo Hall in Detroit (one with the orchestra and later in the summer for the "Pirates" show). Best concerts I have ever seen. This is truly one of their best songs. Peter Sinfield outdid himself on the lyrics and to take this on live and have it sound like this? Magical!
The mighty E,L&P! Very sad that it seems the Pirates are one of their underrated masterworks! Such a marvellous performance -thanks a lot for sharing:)
Call this what you will, no matter what one feels about ELP the truth of the matter is: they belong with pioneers like 'Schoenberg, 'Cage 'Crumb and 'Glass. Giants of musicianship (whether you like their style or not) they are a fine representation of humanity's achievements musically. Additionally, they brought a live show of daring rock composition, masterful musicianship and interesting and kinetic live stage performance to the people Thanks ELP!
I was at this concert in Montreal. I was 16 at the time and I will never forget it! When it comes to musical genius, very few if any bands come close to ELP.
Thanks for posting this. I was in the cello section over on the right. Chicago Soldier's Field was a hoot too, Foghat (!) and J Geils opened. 'Pirates" itself actually a decent composition, could have been Bear Stearns' theme song.
thanx for posting. this song is one of my favorite songs of all time I am 49 now and still playing this in my car reguraly. This song is one off the few you see the whole song in pictures in your mind. greetings from the Netherlands
I saw ELP play Pirates on the same tour in Chicago in 1977. It was my 13th birthday and the best birthday present I ever received was tickets to the show.
beautiful!

Thanks for posting. I saw them in Feb '78, after they dropped the orchestra. Still good, but boy do I regret not seeing the orchestra tour of '77.

@MrNesty55 Thanks for your contribution to a great ELP concert. FYI -- Pirates is an EXCELLENT composition and it's called SOLDIER Field. Snob.

@paperpichu: I know what you mean. I'm 43, so was still too young to go to concerts like this on my own at the time.
