Hey newmacgeek. Great review. You say you'll be connecting the device audio wise on how to put it through a stereo. If you have do you know if it's possible to do this wirelessly, say using AirPort Express or Extreme?
@timshanks80 Hey, ther is 2 ways to connect it through your stereo, if it's in the same location you can just use phono cable if not you can use and airport express with AirTunes! Hope this helps
What is apple tv?there is no screen on this device,so how come they gave name of tv?TV means television, honestly television is made specially to entertain ur eyes, not for other organs like ear, nose, tounge etc.they better put names like vcr,dvd player,or internet video, music, photo player instead of name TV.if this device is good enough to name TV,then why not vcr,dvd player, laptop, desktops are not TV?
I have a quick question, I have about 200 movies in various formats I have downloaded. Currently, I can only watch them on my 22" monitor, I am considering the Apple TV so I can watch the movies on my 42" plasma tv. Will I need to first convert all of my movies to mp4 format, before I can steam them through my Apple TV? I assume the Apple TV will be able to connect to my network wirelessly and access my movies on my laptop... Thanks for your help, great video!
Yes you would have to convert your movies to MP4, iTunes 8 has a function to convert movies for apple tv. Also note that apple tv will not stream your videos from you computer it will copy them from you computer into it internal hard drive. So with the amount of videos you have i would suggest buying the larger 160gb apple tv! Hope this helps
"But with the usb port on the rear of the Apple Tv you can plug in a removable hard drive"
Wrong. The USB port is for servicing only. Movies bought on the AppleTV are synced back to your PC, and you can store them on external drives from there.
if you search youtube or google for apple tv hacks, you can hack the apple tv to use the usb port for a additional hard drive. You are right that out if the box it is only a service port but it is possible!
It is a valid point, you can NOT copy itunes movies to DVD. But with the usb port on the rear of the Apple Tv you can plug in a removable hard drive. Apple would like you to be able to copy the files to dvd but due to DRM laws the only way they can offer movie downloads is to make it so you cant copy to dvd. thank you for the comment.
I really want to get an Apple TV but would you say it's worth the price having all those things on your tv instead of hooking up your laptop to the tv when you want to watch a movie on your hard drive? Great video by the way!

now I do think apple tv is alot of money starting from £200/$400 but the experience of using it makes it soooo worth it!
