Anyone with a proper knowledge of Taoist philosophy knows why this is called Tai Chi chuan. Anyone that has been on the receiving end of a blow from a true master also knows there is a bit more than physics going on. That being said, my own teachers explained Tai Chi chuan as martial physics, and physics is indeed a part of Taoist philosophy.
@TheEidolon7 you should be careful to not getting overwhelmed by your sensations, physics allows you to do a great many things, no need to go "beyond it" to explain what a true master does (and I've felt one ;-)). To exaggerate a bit, it's not because you hallucinate about flying elephants that they actually exist, if you see my point...
This has got to be the most epic tai chi video ever!! It would be so cool to learn from him, I bet he's going to live another 100 years! This master looks like he's in great shape.
A master without doubt. But why the obvious b.s. demonstrations such as the one @ 1:24? Not one of the demonstrators is exerting any force whatsoever. I really hate those type of demos, does not do any justice to the art and perhaps adds to the pseudo-mystique that keeps people from taking traditional martial arts seriously by would-be practitioners.

Martial Arts is all science and principles. I disagree with lack of focus that's deep into the art as you put it. Taijiquan is meditation in motion using your meridians as well as your mind, body, and spirit. Many practitioners lack understanding as to the why of movement, strikes, flow, connecting all of your energy through these principles to demonstrate explosive power, balance, and speed. Misunderstood art.
its interesting how they call it taiji , but what i see in this video is all very good and im not going to bash on the chinese at all , i love the martial arts, but i grew up in the west and i see it not so much as being that deep into the art n its ways as it sais it is.. its more like physics n rules or science and how the human body works, like when he had all those people pushing him and they were unable to knock him down.. thats all rules and principles of physics and redirecting energy away
@mobbdeep4eva1 .. or when in self defense or in offense it teaches how to use your body and energy aswell as the enemy's momentum and energy against the opponent, but nonetheless its still a beautiful form or art combining mind body and soul efficiently.
@mobbdeep4eva1 Ah, rewatching the video I noticed my earlier comment. Sorry if I wasn't clear - "its more like physics n rules or science and how the human body works". What's "deep into the art" aren't the principles behind the movement. Those aren't too difficult to understand.
What's difficult is being able to move all the parts of your body with the correct timing (both with other body parts, and with the enemy), in the correct manner. That's the "deep" part - mastery of the body.
I think I am very proud of not just being a Chinese but congratulate to grandmaster Chen, he is doing a great job not jus for Chinese but also to Martial arts, to share his extraordinary skill & philospohy of martial arts, he has done his ancestors & us proud.

Were the rushed subtitles deliberate? I mean will the final documentary have proper spacing/sentence of them so they are readable (some instances very bad). However an excellent documentary, id love to watch it.
@VivanteWesternreiten for advertisement. the lat ime i heard of him he is part of the four diamonds of chen village. there are others in the chen family (numerous) guess he gets the most publicity

@Kyrielsh1 Well, I've been "hallucinating" for well over 20 years now so no, I don't see your point.
