If you truly want to know the details of Hogan's golf swing and put them to practice so you CAN get swing that is consistent, go buy a copy of Hogan's Five Lessons. If you already have the book, go back and read it and actually do everything Hogan mentions in his book and you will achieve a consistent golf swing, but the key is to not give up and don't brush details aside. The devil is in the details. If you have any questions about the book, post them here and I'll try to answer them.
Yes practice and more practice does make a good golfer, but for some people they could practice forever and still not achieve anything close.I can't ice skate i could practice 80 hrs a week would get better for sure but would never be professional.
@markymonster1 I agree, this is due to us lacking one thing that Mr Hogan had "Talent". Now Hogan and Tiger got so damn much of it, that God didn't have enough left to give a tiny bit to us poor hackers. This is why there are some many bad swings out there
@markymonster1 If you dont mind me saying, there is no natural genius, what you are seeing here is the result of many years of hard, hard work. Blistered or bleeding hands are no problem for someone like Ben Hogan.
Check out those low bullets with the fairway wood on #13 at Augusta. Persimmon wood, balata, downhill lie to a green with creek in front. No room for error in that strike, the slightest miss and your in the creek. You can't compare eras because the equipment is so different.
The footage down the line with trees in the foreground will always produce a nice look at a low, powerful shot. The swings at Augusta's #13 at :20 and :30 (slo) are amazing.
@mikepownzall actually after watching this again, I could believe that. You think they could measure swing speeds back then? How did he compare to his peers?
@kellj99 Saying this is a respectful way since Im 15 but I practice and read everyday for 3-5 plus hours. I must say consider this- Hogan said to always swing as fast and hard as you can with the driver while maintaining balance and tempo. And sprinters who are used to running fast when they train they run downhill so there body gets used to running fast. Now think of Hogan as a champion sprinter with probably one of the most athletic/powerful/beautiful/BEST controlled/fastet golf swing.
wouldnt be surprised if it was in the 130+ range with MODERN equipment, but now I'm going to go out on a limb and say 115-110. 270 with a perm driver though would be as much as 320 easy with the right swing and swing speed.

@markymonster1 The problem there is, they keep practicing all the wrong moves, so therefore they will never improve.

I wish I could get that trajectory.

Can't compare but would be interesting how much Ben hogans swing would change to accommodate modern equipment....?

Hogan's swing should reside in your mind if you want to learn how to compete and be a pure, consistent striker!!

This is an awesome video - the best I've seen by a long way to show what Hogan was really doing.

@lawr66
If you want to hit it dead straight, rotate your hips and shoulders from the top of the golf swing, just like Hogan does it. It's a thing of beauty.

with modern equipment he would be one of the longest if not the longest hitter on tour
mikepownzall 1 year ago
@mikepownzall ehhh I dont know about that Im not sure what would make you think that
kellj99 1 year ago
@kellj99 Because he was a long hitter then
mikepownzall 1 year ago
@kellj99 And his average drive with old equipment was 260-270 take all of the equipment today and pair it with his swing.

@mikepownzall Hogan would get an easy 75-100 yards extra for sure.
