I'm a big ManU fan, and viewing this highlight video was nauseating. Still I'll concede that it was one of the more memorable Cup finals. At least long hair has gone out of style.
I was there behind the goal when Mciloy scored. The happiest moment of my life so far - then Sunderland scored the winner which was the worst moment. I felt i'd lived a lot for a 16 year od that day but i'm glad i was there for a classic wembley final. I still feel sick when i see the last goal go in33 years later. Liam Brady was a star and in those days both sets of fans stuck around for a proper lap of honour.
I was 8 years old feeling quite smug as Arsenal were 2 up, then 2 quick Utd goals...Bugger! I remember running around the living room like an idiot when Alan Sunderland scored the winner.
@arsenaljsutliffuk u and me both sme lol now its either we play our best and try to win the game or not but hey seems like the team has been getting back to their best now lets try to win something idc if it even the carling cup idc I want us to silence the critics....
32 years ago and I remember it like yesterday. Why? Because this is the way the game was suppsoed to be played. 22 honest professionals (1 sub each!), amazing atmosphere.....and a boyhood hero for every true football fan in Liam Brady.
I was there. A chubby 13-year-old schoolgirl who'd got a ticket because of matches attended with my season-ticket neighbours who'd taken me to too many of that season's matches. Most of them workmanlike (to put it politely), won with a headed goal from a set-piece and only interesting when the terraces regularly erupted.
Yet I cannot adequately describe the effect that Sunderland's goal had on me except to say that this is still the best day of my life.
Gordon McQueen blamed Macari and Mickey Thomas for Arsenal's 3rd goal, rather than Gary Bailey. He said that if they'd stayed on their feet when Brady ran through, instead of lunging in, they'd have stopped him passing it to Rix on the left. Not sure myself.
Arsenal sponsored by Umbro? Man United sponsored by Admiral? If you told both these teams that in about 25-30 years, they'll both me making boatloads of money from Nike sponsorship, they'd probably laugh at you.
@LiterallyMad After the presentation of the cup Liam Brady swapped shirts with one of the United players but wore it inside out. Pretty much symbolic of what he did to the United defence that day. A great, great player, worth £100 million at todays prices. Remember this like it was yesterday, from a time when the FA Cup was the only game in town not sandwiched between league games. It was like christmas coming waiting for the cup final.
@warpfield98 The FA Cup winners automatically qualify for one of three English places in the Europa League. Unless they've already qualified for the Champions League - so that usually means the runners-up these days. (The FA and the Premier League banned Portsmouth this season though due to their financial troubles. Otherwise Liverpool wouldn't have been in Europe this year.)
