  • @Esther74 he was the son of a carpenter

  • haha thats just crazzy learning the WHOLE book... i dont think i could memorize the bible exactly

  • what a shame that Rob does not mention that everything he says is actually RAY VANDER LAAN's material which is available free of charge at Ray's website. Rob is simply doing a scaled down lesson of stuff that Ray spends several hours teaching on. The "FRIEND" Rob mentions who went to jewish seminary and didn't have scripture memorized is Ray Vander Laan himself.

Come on bro, if you're gonna borrow someone else's material, at least have the courtesy to mention him....borderline plagiarism.

  • @hakman8 very similiar to Shane Williards teaching etc.. But there is not MY TEACHING on this.. they just know the same cultural things of the Jewish life from back then..

  • There is no way Rob Bell is not a christian.

Regardless of his doctrines and theology.

Look at how excited he gets when he's talking about Jesus. He is so passionate, and energized.

  • Was Jesus really an official Rabbi? I thought he was a carpenter. Which would mean then that he did not have what it took to follow any of the existing rabbi's. .. Anyway, he shouldn't because he was God, and the Father ordained him, but just to know... was he an official Rabbi?

  • @Esther74 People where calling him a Rabbi so yes He was considered a Rabbi. John 20:16 and Mark 10:51

  • @Esther74 People where calling him a Rabbi so yes He was considered a Rabbi. John 20:16 and Mark 10:51

  • @Esther74 There is not one New Testament scripture to indicate he himself was a carpenter..

  • @Esther74 He wasnt "a" Rabbi he was "The" Rabbi, the only teacher

  • I know a Rabbi who thinks I'm good enuff..........can it get any better than that???

  • i thought this was incitful but when he talks about Jesus "take my yoke upon you" he doesn't really clarify what His yoke really is. he doesn't talk about sin and the need for repentance and how God sees us as righteous through Christ. At 4:04 he says the rabbi believes you can be like him. this does not apply to Jesus. However we put our faith in Him and God sees us for who He is. I don't think Rob bell is clear

  • Wait......Jesus thought they were...good????

I swear I recall Jesus telling John and James "You do not know what spirit you are of" and directly calling Peter "Satan" for tempting him.

The apostles were worms and wretched heathen, but the glorious thing is they recognized this fact and their dependence upon God. They did not think they were good, that was Judas....

  • Rob Bell shoudl've said, if you have faith in yourself you will sink, but if you have faith in Christ alone, you will have the faith to move mountains.

  • @TrUxAzNx Yeah, talk about messing up the very foundation of Christianity.....Peter fell to Jesus feet and said "Depart from me, for I am a sinful man". Bell makes it seem as if Peter stood upright with full confidence in himself....

The apostles were worms and wretched men, but that is exactly why they were chosen; they understood they were evil and knew they depended on God.

  • He was not considered learned because he never went past Bet Talmud. He developed his own yoke.

  • I wonder what Mars Hill Grand Rapids will look like in 10 yrs?

  • @ulspeed My wife and I went to the Mars Hill a month ago and saw Rob Bell speak on Sunday morning (we live in Michigan). It was a beautiful church, Rob Bell led a wonderful Sunday sermon, and the worship music dynamic was like I'd never seen; they have a 360* sanctuary and the worship team faces each other, not the pew sitters, because they're worshiping too- not just performing.

  • If youve read any of his books, or, been an active listener/attender of his church, he actually does note that Jesus was called Rabbi because it means teacher.

  • With all of this research that he did you'd think that he would have realized that Christ was not a formally trained Rabbi. People called him 'rabbi' because rabbi means 'teacher'. In fact, Scripture says that Christ had NO formal training.

John 7:15 And the Jews marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?

  • So, you don't consider this man's good news, because of the most small and in-significant mistake? Is that what you were doing while you were watching this entire video? Instead of absorbing the word of god, you judge and slam down your gavel.

You remind me alot of the pharissees' that were always finding fault in Jesus. "I resisted coming here, to open the harbors that guard my heart" (Jeremiah 23:24) Open your harbors to the teachings, not facts...knowledge does nothing for GOD.

  • This is just one example of how he continually misinterprets Scripture and pulls verses out of context. If this were a rare instance of poor hermanutic I could overlook it, but he constantly twists Scripture, making it all about helping your fellow man and not about the atoning work of Christ that paid for our sins. Don't get me wrong, we are commisioned to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, etc. But he has made that the primary, and changed Christ taking the place for our sins to...

  • ...Christ just living and dying simply to be an example for how we should live. I'm not saying he never has, but I've wathced many of his vids and never heard him talking about the atoning effecect of Christ's death. If he has it has gotten drowned out with social programs and New Age jargon.

  • @OfWrathAndGrace you should watch rb's the gods arent angry. its really good

  • @kingdomtheology Friend, even if he were spot-on in that one, I've seen him drop the ball too many other times.

  • @OfWrathAndGrace It's probably because he's an Amillennialist and Covenant Theologian, rather than the traditional Dispensationalist and Postmillennialist.

  • @MarkToTheSky it seems to me that Rob bell is full of knowledge but not spirit. i have hade that problem. i knew all sorts of things about the bible but i didn't understand salvation. I didn't understand that I had absolutly nothing to offer God. God doesn't need us. but He chooses to want us. you are the one who follows after knowledge but not truth

  • @MarkToTheSky it seems to me that Rob bell is full of knowledge but not spirit. i have hade that problem. i knew all sorts of things about the bible but i didn't understand salvation. I didn't understand that I had absolutly nothing to offer God. God doesn't need us. but He chooses to save us and mold us in His image. you are the one who follows after knowledge but not truth

  • @rianpop Spirit? I don't think I've ever heard another preacher EVER stress the importance of the Holy Spirit more than RB. Which is why, the sin that can't be forgiven is blasphemy against The Holy Spirit. Forgive Rob Bell for not stressing the fear of the lord, & 80% of the time the words God and fear are in the same sentence, the original Hebrew word for it, is awe or reverence. God is Love has no other meanings, the text in Hebrew is the same in every language.
