  • I think he looks fine for being 65 in this video, he's now about 70, so maybe he has done a few things right over his life to keep it going?

  • Ignorance..Even if Weil isn't the slimmest guy around. Does that make him unhealthy? I'm pretty sure he eats healthier than most people on the planet today especially most Americans. You can gain weight from healthy foods not just junk foods..On top of that Milton Friedman said it best the cure for cancer doesn't have to come from someone that has cancer. Weil's credentials speak for themselves. He isn't talking opinion here but science.

  • He isn't fat fat. . . He is getting quite old, and it's natural to put on weight when we get old. Plus, he spends all his time working to help us, bit of a workaholic. . . Those books don't write themselves. . . And finally, his weight is from good quality olive oils, not junk food

    ; )

  • Does anybody have a citation or link to the Australian study showing the arterial dysfunction due to oxidized fats?

  • Watched this guy in my fitness class. Couldn't stop thinking about how he looked like Karl Marx.

  • YOUR A FAT MAN I DONT SEE WHY PEOPLE TAKE ADVICE FROM PEOPLE NOT GETTING THE RESULTS!!!

  • maybe he is in denial of his own overweightness?!?!

  • sounds like the SAD to me! XD

  • Dude he looks fat to me

  • I'd like you think with me...what an unhealthy person looks like: he will have a protruding stomach, he's going to have greyish skin that seems to lack any sort of healthy glow; then you can look at a persons body and observe that his body lacks the necessary musculature on shoulders and back- posture is often very good indicator of a healthy muscular body....OH WAIT!

  • People will listen to anyone who is decent at public speaking and has the ego to act like he knows what he is talking about.

  • I believe what foods we put in our body is vital to our health. People just eat without thought.. Until your body cries enough.

  • No matter what Dr. Weil looks like, he is telling it like it is. Refined, nutrient depleted food is our problem. What does his looks have to do with his message? Health is individual, yet with absolutes. You can't separate the mind/body/spirit. Perhaps he's learned through himself. I only wish I knew 30 years ago, what I know now...I wouldn't have a weight problem. This is deep. Thyroid problems/adrenal problems, stress is involved. We need whole foods.. Also I feel blood types is a factor

  • This fuckin homo's fat and out of breath the whole time

  • the last study is interesting- one processed meal slowing the blood flow to extremities! that's sketchy and the reason i don't eat at McGay

  • Dr. Andrew Weil needs to get his ass in shape. He doesn't look like he is healthy. Isn't that ironic?

  • LESS CALORIES+MORE CALORIES OUT=LESS POUNDS......THAT SIMPLE, BYE I AM GOING FOR A WALK BECAUSE I AM FATTENING WHILE SEATING IN MY CHAIR WATCHING THIS....

  • Raw foods vegan diet..Period...No animal products--no processed foods...Some cooking ok but UNPROCESSED VEGAN...Compassionate and healthy !

  • I see well thats understandable but I mean really, if your father was fat you wouldn't listen to him? The Buddha was fat wasn't he?! People can still have a good message regardless of their weight. The more people who commit to this, the better! Just my opinion though...

  • Correct about everything except saturated fat but dr Weil has come around to this

  • We can all cite different gurus and scientific studies to justify all different theories to support any belief. I choose good old common sense or as Dad use to say Horse Sense. Study more primitive modern cultures like the Tarahumares in Mexico;they are very thin, eat a very limited natural diet (beans-rice-corn) and exercise a great deal. They have very little cancer-high blood pressure-heart disease. My conclusion (ok to disagree) eat more natural foods, watch calories and exercise.

  • Load up on saturated fats for a bad diet? LOLNOPE!

  • Health takes knowledge, lots of work self and high self esteem. The question is, if it is worth it ? To me yes, to many no.

I run 10 miles a day and eat a healthy omnivore diet;lots of fresh fruit and veggies, lean meat once a week. I stay away from processed foods. I am 58 and can still fit into my High school jeans. BMI is a guideline not a judgement. With all respect to Dr. Weil who seems like a nice man but he is a tad overweight. All you need is commonsense approach and the will.

  • he is wrong about animal fat/protein. the healthiest humans have ever been was eating animal sources for fat and protein. THEN the bad scientists showed up and convinced other bad scientists that we needed a grain/vege/fruit based diet...that we needed to cook with oils that do NOT even appear in nature(without chemical processing)and we bought it. We have MORE health problems than ever. Keep listening to 'the Doctors'...the parrots of corporate based 'knowledge'. This doc could lose a few.

  • Here's the thing.

You're never going to be able to deny the truth about health: we all know that processed foods are not good because they are not natural. I've seen so many doctors that are overweight, and all of you who are being judgemental towards Dr. Weil have seen them too. People are people, their knowledge is separate from their physical body. If you believe in what they are saying then its legitimate for YOU.

But don't try and convince yourself McDonald's can be good for you. Just don't

  • Is it me, or is he out of breath the entire time?

  • How the fuck can those people listen to this guy talk about diet...he's fat!

  • It is a testament to Dr. Weil's intellectual integrity that he has reversed his position on saturated fat. Look up his article on the Huffington Post on July 2, 2010. He now says saturated fat is virtually innocuous. It is unfortunate that more scientists and doctors, who speak about nutrition, are not willing to correct their decades long vilification of fat. Science is about truth, not dogma. Sugar and grain based carbohydrates are the real culprit behind our health crisis

  • this fat faggot is talking about diet?

  • what a joke he is, he's fat himself and i bet he doesnt stick to his diet advice anyway

  • Logic would dictate that if a person had the knowledge to be healthy (thin) that he would apply it to himself. "

  • A low fat diet by definition is a high carbohyrate diet, or a high sugar diet. We are animals, animal fats are ok. The worst diet would start out with any synthetic foods. Foods the body has not seen throughout human history, like margarine, preservatives, etc. The next worst would be extracted foods in amounts not consumed throughout human history like High Fructose Corn Syrup

  • @lynnellsman I'm not an expert, but I don't see the connection between us being animals, and ingesting large amounts of animal fats.

  • @digitaldave1234 @digitaldave1234 Agreed, that argument would be the same as : a car is made of iron thus we must use iron fillings as gasoline.

Reality, humans and all kind of animals function better on plant based diets than animal and deary..

Refined food is bad for everyone, whole foods are preferred, majority should be plant based and vegetarianism is thus the ideal. Check out Walter J Veith, life at its best. Wonderful presentation at Amazing Discoveries.

  • @digitaldave1234 we were hunter/gatherers bro. do your research.

  • Yes, we are animals, and we still need animal fats in our diet. How much we need is impossible to tell, because everyone is different, but undoubtebly it is way more than what we are told.

  • Dr.....practice what you preach. If you truly did follow what you preach sir..you would not be over weight.

  • @MIKEBATTAGLA Thank you Mike, you are correct

  • The BMI is ridiculous. It simply compares weight and height. I once saw a male fitness model with 10% body fat put his stats into this index and come out rated as "obese". His well developed muscles made him weigh more.

  • How can anyone listen to a guy who's bald, gray, and tubby? Some things he says may be correct, but as a messenger he's just not authentic because he doesn't really walk the talk. Listen to someone like Gary Null, who has a full head of dark hair in his sixties -- which he grew back by consuming huge amounts of chlorophyll, which Weil doesn't care about (he rejects any claims of proponents of wheat grass juice, for example).

  • Weil looks like a POS. He's a good communicator, that's how he fools people.

    Weil is probably gluten challenged.

  • if i needed directions i wouldn't ask a blind person...if i wanted to lose weight i wouldn't listen to a fat guy...

  • HE's NUTS!

    plus he has O.C.D

  • Weil is brilliant, and no he is not overweight at all. I am certain that the man is very healthy and is a mesomorph (muscle) based body type, not fat but extremely strong. He will live a long and healthy life! Go Weil!

  • dr weil doesnt look like he could run a mile

  • @TIFFANY12486 Yep. Dr. Weil is a fat guy. It's the elephant in the middle of the room.

  • I have this DVD! I think some people are genetically predisposed to be bigger. I don't think he's obese, just a larger man. I have been following his work since I was 20, and Dr. Weil has been an inspiration to me and my family.

  • where is dr phil to write the book on this?

  • His beard is an indicator of the doctor's own health.

  • Most modern day health advice today (i.e.:green teas, white tea, broccoli red wine, etc) i can tell you that Dr Weil was talking about this in the early 90's, I have followed his advice over the years and can tell you i have felt great...also let it be known that Dr Weil used to be obese and lost vast amounts of weight....skinny doesn't always mean healthy! His website is always up to date..i read it everyday...a true medical master!

  • I removed my previous comments because, in fact, Dr. Weil has recently lost weight on a low carb diet and described the results. My original objection was that this particular clip was so negative whereas in the past, Dr. Weil has been strong on what he like not, like ADA and other organizations what he didn't like but now that is current message is positive and sensible, I write this one off to having a crabby day. Why, it even happens to me sometimes.

  • An obese doctor teaching others how to eat. Lovely.

To be fair, this clip is several years old. Weil has since read Taubes and had good things to say about it. Who knows, maybe Weil will drop the carbs and slim down, and drop all the fairy tales about sat fat.

  • This is one of the most irresponsible videos on health I have ever seen. Weil is WAY off base on most accounts here. The only thing he gets right is the refined carbs.

Doesn't this man read scientific papers? See what getting rich and famous does - makes you stupid.

  • please elaborate...which part is irresponsible/inaccurate?

  • No offense intended but Dr. Weil Looks fat to me regardless of his age. He appears to be well over his BMI (body mass index). Which leads me to ask why is he giving advise if he is overweight ?

  • If you listen to what he says, I don't think you can disagree with his advice, no matter what the adviser looks like.

  • @digitaldave1234: why not? All he is doing is regurgitating the advice that has gotten America nowhere in regards to the obesity and diabetes epidemics. For some real info check out Gary Taubes or Michael Eades.

  • @digitaldave1234 Dave, Do you think Dr. Weil is following his own advice? If so, what does that tell us? If not, what does that tell us?

  • @digitaldave1234 Then the question is: Why doesn't he follow his own advice?

  • @digitaldave1234 Yes, but it looks like he can't follow his own advice which leads to the question, why can't people stick to this way of eating for long periods of time?

  • @digitaldave1234

    What? Are results totally unimportant?

The man holds himself out as an expert.

    Also, he's wrong.

However, in his defense, as alphacause points out, "It is a testament to Dr. Weil's intellectual integrity that he has reversed his position on saturated fat. Look up his article on the Huffington Post on July 2, 2010."

So I'll give him that much. Hopefully he can use new info to improve his health!

  • @digitaldave1234 Well, hearing advice from an overweight doctor is no different than telling your kid he shouldn't smoke just because you do. You can't hold others accountable for their health when you can't take care of your own business. It's not to say that he doesn't provide good information regarding nutrition and most treatments; however, he will never touch the CASH COW, and that's Big Pharma and the cancer cures such as by Dr. Brudzynski. Weil has sold out to making money.

  • @cdmentor That is logical, but, not true.

I person could be 'gay' and still disapprove

    of homosexuality.

The truth of a statement, is not determined

by the spokesman, but, if you are trying to

convince another, it makes you appear to

be a hypocrite. His info is right on!

  • @fntime So the answer is "do as I say but not as I do" ?? If his (Dr> Weil's ) advise is accurate why doesn't he follow it ? Logical or not why doesn't he appear healthy ?

  • Thin is healthy and fat is unhealthy is the stupid generalisation of our times. He probably is healthier and fitter and more in harmony with his environment than fittest "looking" athlete. Health or fitness is rarely about what you look like....BMI references are very broad measurements of a lifestyle...a fat person could be happy and healthy and a thin person could be burdened with a myriad health issues. Dr.Weil is not advocating thinness...he is common sense while making food choices.

  • No offense but you're Wrong ! Many long term studies (and common sense) indicate that those who have a a lower BMI (body mass index) statistically are less likely to have life threatening diseases. Cancer, heart disease and respiratory to name the biggies which are directly related to diet-exercise and obesity. It's not a generalization but a fact of life.

  • Not trying to be nasty here but why are so many young & middle age people 30's-50's using walkers-chair riders-oxygen assist bottles everywhere ? Why are we seeing so many folks with the gigantic "bottoms" and pear shape?

Criticism of morbidly overweigh people is not about tolerance or denial of their civil rights, its about life and death. The quality of that life and how it impacts those of us who care about what we look like, our heath and our society.

  • @cdmentor the BMI has been proven to be entirely flawed for years, why do we still use it? beats me. Research the origins and original intention of the BMI, its not as scientific as one might think.

  • yeah i know what you mean, I eat a lot of so called crap yet I've been slim all my life

  • @cdmentor I don't see Dr. Weil as fat at all. IMO it's a strange observation to see him as fat. He looks perfectly normal to me.

  • @vjGURU99 he's tubby. I'm sorry, but if that dude actually practices what he preaches, I will not take his advice. That's a bloated beer belly right there. and listen to his breathing! Doesn't sound very healthy to me.

  • @cdmentor So if a guy can dunk a basketball, he can't coach? If a guy can't run a bead with an acetylene torch, he can't talk about steel? That's poor reasoning. My sa bu nim can't kick anymore but damned if he can't talk about martial arts methodology.

  • @upabittoolate sorry, but your reasoning is illogical and your metaphors don't apply. If someone has the knowledge to be healthy but does not apply it to himself then one can only conclude that that knowledge is flawed. Why would someone want to be overweight and incur disease ?

  • @cdmentor The metaphors apply just fine. I'm pointing out the flaw in your logic. I had a calculus instructor who often needed help with arithmetic. Mechanics often drive shitty cars. Doctors aren't the world's best patients. Sports coaches are often fat. Big deal. Weil doesn't look to be in bad shape for a man who's almost 70.

The illogical 1 is the 1 who assumes things can only exist 1 way.

  • @cdmentor In other words, 1 doesn't have to "look the part" in order to have the ability to advise.

  • This fat slob has no right to talk about diet..He is overpaid and overfed.

  • yeah looks like he doesnt take his own advice, like most doctors

  • @cdmentor According to many scientific studies, being 10-50 lbs over the generally "accepted" BMI levels poses no additional health risks, and in some studies showed decreased mortality rates. Much evidence can be cited to support the idea that its far more risky to be thin, especially underweight. Check out the "Obesity Myth" by Campos. According to the evidence there, as long as Weil maintained this current weight he'd be just as healthy as someone much lighter.

  • @Chaduke when buying a home I will check you out. When making false health claims and tu quoque remarks don't even touch the keys.

  • @cdmentor You have no formal education. You just stated the most obvious fallicy in logic, look at him.... how can he say that.....? ignorance

  • Comment removed

  • @cdmentor Yeah, you missed the point! Why do people look for whats wrong with everything all the time..

  • @GloryAtWill Not looking for something wrong just looking for the truth. A person who is overweight should not be giving health advise even though they may be well intentioned. We desperately need role models who do what say and practice good health.

  • @GloryAtWill Not looking for something wrong, just looking for the truth. A person who is overweight should not be giving health advise even though they may be well intentioned. We (America) desperately need role models who do what they say and practice good health. Obesity is killing our children and everyone else.

  • @cdmentor Oops, my reply is right here.

  • @cdmentor That isn't FAT he is chubby..but FAT, obese FAT, morbid Obese FAT is totally different. Yes he isn't thin, he is as I said chubby. and Old.. Some say that being 'a little overweight' is much healthier than being TOO thin. As someone wrote, listen to what he says, not what he looks like...again he isn't MORBIDLY obese so....

  • Ouch! Scary! That part about all the fat screwing up someone's arteries with one meal is just Yeechh! and to think I've eaten meals like that before! My poor body. :( LOL

  • I have been following him for years now....and Dr. Weil is amazing. I am thankful for his teachings.

  • I'm sorry the FTC and FDA are threatening to sue you. I support you 100%, thank you for your lifesaving work.

  • it always comes back to this> fruits, vegetables, nuts, grains and just a small portion of potein. I also use rice or soy milk and coconut milk. i could no longer bring myself to consume the crap that is served at ant fast food place.

  • If you're overweight, tweak.

  • I really want a full debate between him and Gary Taubes.

  • There's a video on youtube where he endorses Gary Taubes' book. I'd like to see a real debate between Ornish and Taubes. :-)

  • It amazes me that in this day and age, our technical advances and such have little reflection on westerners physical condition and their basic knowledge of food. Everything about it is wrong, we have fantastic fresh food available but we choose to eat rubbish. Imagine how much better off we would all be if we ate correctly and did regular exercise.

  • See the trailer to a new film on natural health foodmatters[dot]tv

  • That's definitely a refined carb body, Andy.

  • Ha! Still you have to admit that he's changed the way America thinks about certain aspects of health, like trans fats for one.

  • Really? I mean, I admit Dr Weil doesn't have a super model thin body... lol

Dr Weil isn't really fat... For one he's big boned, he's huge, and not in a fat way. Second, he's old. Most old people have a decline in their body fitness.

  • Im not sure of this but I heard hes in his 60s. He looks damn healthy for someone his age.

  • I think he's 67 or 68

  • @geisha32 It's a high fructose corn syrup body if I've ever seen one.

  • A "low carb" diet is the only diet that has been successful for me. It's reduced my appetite and belly fat substantially. I'm considered "skinny" now by my everyone but it wasn't always like that. In the past, I had a gut that I couldn't lose. When I changed my diet and stayed away from junk food ~~ overnight, my weight changed significantly.

It may not work for you but it worked for me.

  • I was never overweight, but because I was depressed I changed my eating habits to natural foods and not only did I feel much better but I lost weight even though I wasn't overweight. Why bother with diets at all? If you eat natural foods exclusively then there is no need to count calories or 'carbs'. Your body will take care of itself, you just got to take care of it and keep clean of processed and unnaturally enriched foods. There is so much more to health than how much you weigh.

  • same here man. except I was overweight, too haha.

  • @superheronumber1 what's "natural foods", precious?

  • ive beat you to it mate.ive definately got the worst diet in the world.check this vid out.

  • The first meal is indeed to often the last supper, so to speak!

  • He is showing the way

    to eat to stay

    alive

    gimme five

  • he is a god

  • "Studies here and abroad have found no evidence to show it amounts to a public health risk"

    Dr. Weil concerning mercury amalgam.

    This is irresponsible.

Click on my name for three video clips to show you undenialable proof of leakage and damage.

    1. "smoking teeth"

    2. "how mercury destroys the brain"

    3. "mercury and autism"

  • As soon as I hear "studies show" -insert bullshit-, red flags go up. I also think that was an irresponsible thing to say, it'd just love it if people referred to specific studies instead of referring to obscure evidence.

  • Maybe from a doctor no one knows anything about, but Dr. Weil isn't in a position to look foolish.

  • @superheronumber1 There's a different between vague remarks like "studies show..." and finite comments like "in 2005, a team of Australian researchers performed an experiment & this was the data they procured about aterio-induction."

  • smart guy... good motivation!!
