@mlepritchett Thank you so much for stopping by and for taking the time to comment. My Dad felt that this song was so sad that it was bad luck. He wouldn't allow me to play it if he were home. Now I can't help but think of him when I hear it.
@ginmillsinger Thanks Bill. I know what you mean this song is so sad that I never go back and listen to it. I seem to be drawn to melancholy songs for some reason but I am making an effort to find some upbeat at least if not happy songs to record soon, ha.
@ajman85able Definatly a sad one. I have got to find more happy songs that I can sing. It just seems that my voice is more suited to slower smooth type songs, and many of that type are sad songs.
One of the saddest songs ever. Never fails to tug at my heartstrings. And you sing it beautifully. Check out my other channel with my band youtube com / thecopycatsband
@CrybabyJosh Thank you very much for stopping by my channel and for the very nice comments. I checked out both of your channels, they are great. Keep up the great singing.
Wonderful empathetic and fine voice on this classic canine tribute, Terry. I've often sung this ode to our Border Collie in our patio, Dumper, changing the lyrics apropos to make it a little less intense (i.e., "Old Dump" and "He jumped in and help pull me down".) My guitar work kinda made him nervous at times. Really love this song. By the by, Elvis was playing the piano on his 1956 RCA album "Elvis"...and I noticed you adopted the same opening piano run. Great. Cordially, John
@Blinkymyt Thank you again John. I have loved this song since I was a kid but I could never play it or sing it when dad was home. He and my Uncle both thought it was bad luck (I guess because it was so sad). I was fortunate enough to find the backing track that sounds so much like the Elvis (my favorite) version. Unfortunatly I can not play any instruments at all. In fact I never even sang in front of anyone untill my pastor convinced me to sing a Christmas song at church a couple of years ago.
Thank you very much Ant. Many Elvis background tracks including this one and Old Shep are available on youtube. Check out 2001sonny here on youtube, he has posted tons of background tracks. I could not believe that I found the track to Old Shep.
Thank you captFlashback for your kind comments. Yes I was aware that Red Foley was Pat Boones father in law. In fact i was in Springfield Mo. last year for a family funeral and my uncle took me by and showed me Red Foleys old house. I didnt know untill then that Reds show "The Ozark Jubilee" was filmed and broadcast from there as well. Keep up the great music.
Hey Terry, Beautiful, sensitive rendition to this great oldie!. I grew up back in the midwest, listening to Red Foley sing this one Did you know that Foley was Pat Boone's father-in- law? Again, fantastic job Buddy. I look forward to sharing alot of music with you..,...I'm Listening.....The Captain......

Among the best rendition's I've heard.
Having lost beloved pet's, this one really hits home...
Their love is so pure!
Now, I need to find a happier song!
God bless, friend!
