I am in Love Eric...you are my fantasy along with Steven Tyler....Wow...we are getting a little bit older now aren't we?? LOL Don't tell my husband uuuuuuhhhhhhh you'll wait along time..
I was 7 years old when I heard this song. I always thought they said be poised and quite.... Not big boys don't cry.... Strange song but kinda cool...
this is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.....Eric was and I'm sure still is adorable....I AM IN LOVE!!! I was in mid teens when this came out and still feel it...another beauty song by Page and Plant called "The Rain Song" not trying to take away from 10CC
what a great song, they had to mime it though and to think thatthe wall of sound behind had been laboriously created by recording their voices, it must have been funny miming the choral wall.
I can never make my mind up whether it's this, or Elton's 'Your Song' that's my all time favourite. I think I'll have to say I have two all time favourites.
I was 10 when this came out. 7 years later I saw them perform it live in St Ives in a farmers field, as the sun was going down it was a truly magical moment.
1975, the year my mother bought this single and me as a five year old falling off the coal bunker on the first day of the school summer holidays, breaking my collar bone and creating the bloodiest shin injury I've ever seen ! Big boys don't cry !!!
This is such a beautiful song...I saw 10cc in 1976 (I think, been to so many Concerts) in Melbourne..They were brilliant 'live'..I am so glad I got to see this band..wonderful musicians..beautiful vocals and vocal harmonies..sigh...I was in love at the time...lol..
i was born in 1975 and i rember my dad having this song on a tape what i found in the 80's and thats when i became a big fan of 10cc seen them live 4 times
The summer of 76 at 15 yrs old camping and in love with the hottest little brunette......this song was always playing on the radio that summer.. to bad she didn't even notice me.. brings me right back to that summer... Where the F---- did the time go...and the hot little brunette Holly?
I really didn't like this song back when it came out I was 15, until a GUY explained to me that he really was in love but was trying to convince himself he wasn't.....lol
I consider Top of the pops as the greatest musical live show in the history of the music. and no one in the all the others music live on tv will replace this great quality of program.
@BermMary thanks for the info. i was wondering why they keep cracking each other up, even on different videos. i guess my comment wasnt terribly PC, but my gaydar was going off when i watched these guys messing with each other. my bad. check out the singer making stink eyes at the piano player at 2:47.
was 12 yrs old when this came out...music in the 70's was so magical, but then I suppose for every generation its the same, lots of great music today too...but this came out just as I was hitting my "wonder years" and starting to develop serious crushes...felt like they were singing about me...like, "dont let them see it...hide your feelings", for fear of rejection, I suppose...If U love someone, dont hold it in, dont deny it, let if fly, life is too short, nothing comes from denial but pain
When this first came out I used to think it said "big voice down quiet", but I was only 6 yrs. old. But I can still remember 1975: Going to the A & W for hamburgers, swimming on Coeur d'Alene lake in Idaho, getting my first bicycle. Thanx for this "ancient" memory. I wish we had TOTP over here back then (WA State).
Yea, 1975, what a year, great music like this and just another year to go before I finished my military service. Where, ho where is that time machine indead.
Great song-I agree with the announcer-I never got tired of hearing this on the radio. Kinda takes away the moment when the lip synching singer starts cracking up.
i heard a well known musician talkin about how this song was recorded. he said the singers recorded their voices singing various notes, then hooking up the keyboard so that when you hit a certain key, their recorded voices played instead of the keyboard. that kind of explains the ethereal nature of the background voices. nice song
What I cant understand ? Is why music has not developed in to a melodic futuristic sound like this song. And Gary Wrights Dream Weaver. Were in 2011 and the new music is not progressing in to something even remotely as advanced as this.
This superlative single - by a highly talented and somewhat underrated Mancunian group - contains some dark lyrics which, by today's standards, are probably 'politically incorrect' ...... but WTH? What is so marvellous about the politically correct era in which we now live, anyway? Is the quality of life - for the average person in the UK - any better now than it was in 1975; in the pre-PC era?
Unquestionably one of the classic pop records of the 1970's; indeed, it would not be overstating the case to describe it as one of the greatest UK number one hits of the last fifty years.
It is my view that this brilliant track was underrated. Admittedly, it got to # 1 (on this side of the Atlantic) and stayed at the very top for a fortnight - but it sold less than 500,000 copies in the UK. It deserved to sell AT LEAST four times as many copies as that, in my considered opinion.
I was in medical school in Guadalajara Mexico back 1974, I lost my first girlfriend, my father die of cancer, I was with no money in a six month period , I was 21 years old, one night I hear this tune and i start to cry, now I'm a 58 years old mexican physician, wife, 2 sons, and this tune bring me back this moments, thanks for post this explendid video, thank you very, very much.by the way I graduate in 1975, the same year of the release of this program.
I was in medical school in Guadalajara Mexico back 1974, I lost my first girlfriend, my father die of cancer, I was with no money in a six month period , I was 21 years old, one night I hear this tune and i start to cry, now I'm a 58 years old mexican physician, wife, 2 sons, and this tune bring me back this moments, thanks for post this explendid video, thank you very, very much.by the way I graduate in 1976, the same year of the release of this program.
1975, that was a *long hot summer* in the UK-it was perfect !!! & this song epitomises that year...I remember loads of people playing frisbee, good looking girls with long hair, pints of apple wine, Uni of Lancaster...getting pissed and stoned...Listening to this brings that magical time back..a great underrated song with *perfect production*..the tempo is fantastic to get inebriated by and smoke MJ to. ...wheres the f**g time machine...
@ianmcgeachy What a coincidence, it were a long hot summer here in the South Eastern US, as well! I remember frisbees, ten speed bikes, girls with long hair, quarts of beer, strawberry Jobs (rolling papers), and Glad bags full of weed bursting with psychoactive goodness!
@ianmcgeachy Oh, my gosh apple wine. I had my "one" experience with apple wine. Lesson learned. I have to say many years before I could even "smell" an apple without getting sick!
This song does bring back "magical" times. It was good times.
@MusicPredominates Oh aye, when I realised towards end of second year (of a 3 year degree) that I had learned bugger all...I actually started studying. Less apple wine, more books (but more smokes to compensate)..yet, a great time/era overall imo...in many ways things have gone downhill really, I reckon, since then. But this song does really evoke that time to me, and a few others by all accounts!
@theman2017inc Ha..the second bloke to say that..no really it was...some good hot days...at least in Lancaster!!--but 76 *was* *hotter* and most noted. I remember em both well, and all that was happening then.
@ianmcgeachy I also have got nostalgy of my youth (16-17 years), and for me '93 '94 summers were special years that I'll never forget, one reason for this kind of feelings is because we use to live in the past and the future, but never in the present that passes away without leaving any trace. This is because we live always (more or less) with pain that we always want to avoid, so we think that the past was better and we hope for a better future, but it's not like we think.
@MarkFerry1976 Good words and advice. I agree that the present is the reality we have. But there are aspects of the past I prefer to the present, whilst I know it is gone of course. There are aspects of the past I also dislike, but not alot. Maybe wisdom is learning from the past so a better future can be formed, or at least in terms of choosing music that we listen to now..as individuals. This music of that year was of the 'nice kind' to me, so I listen to it and enjoy, 'now' also.
Song like this should not be indispute on YouTube. I wathced it and then PAID to download it and then reminded myself of other 10CC tacks and PAID to download more thna a dozen and even bought 5 CD's (nice to have a backup and works out cheaper than per song....)
So for all you music companies, YouTube is promotion not just free tracks so learn to live in the 21st century.
No offense, but with the exception of Eric Stewart the other guys from the band are the fugliest ever. The one with the afro looks like a neanderthal.
This is lipsynced because live would be impossible to sound right. Just watched how they did this, could not be done live period. At least not with the sound of the recording.
Excellent, thank you nyrainbow4. I was lucky enough to catch these guys live at Stony Brook University on Long Island in 1978 (?). They didn't perform live often so i was glad for the opportunity, they were excellent. There were many concerts at colleges and Universities back then, they were cheap and had very relaxed security.
40 years ago i was in love with a man and i would listen to this song i loved him so much he was not ready to settle down, i would cry listening to this song, we went our seperate ways and lived our lives who would of thought after all theese years we would find our way back to each o ther and on my 5oth birthday he would ask me to marry him
@chopitshop HELLO , IM AM SO HAPPY FOR YOU, I TO WAS IN LOVE WITH SOMEONE VERY VERY SPECIAL,HER NAME WAS SANDY, SHE WAS FROM LONG ISLAND NEW YORK, SHE WAS SO BEAUTIFUL,WE WERE 15, AND IN SCHOOL TOGETHER, I USE TO WALK 3 MILES JUST TO WALK HER TO SCHOOL,WELL MY PARENTS DEVORCED AND MY DAD AND I MOVED OFF I ONLY SAW HER ONCE AFTER THAT , I STILL REMEMBER HER MOM AND DADS PHONE # , THAT WAS IN 1975 , TRUE LOVE NEVER DIES . I WISH YOU ALL THE BEST.
