  • Who knew there were six supremes??

  • AWESOME!!!!

  • 7 to 11 second is the opening drum beat for Lust for Life by Iggy Pop

  • Variations on a theme - great to hear the first version. Sincere thanks for finding and sharing. I saw these girls live on their first Tamla Motown tour of the UK (my dad took me) I think in 1966 or 67. Their magic never left me.

  • been following diana since she started

  • MAYBE THATS MY BIGGEST PROBLEM..IM ALWAYS TRYING TO RUSH STUFF WITH THE GALS AND THATS THE DOWNFALL SOMETIMES....ESPECIALLY WITH A CERTAIN GAL, KITTY...DAMN.....DONT KNOW IF THINGS WOULD HAVE BEEN DIFFERENT IF I DIDNT RUSH, BUT THATS WHAT U DID TO ME IN SUCH A SHORT FORUM..I MISS AND LOVE U..GOOD LUCK SWEETIE..X0X..wish me the same, i need it.x0x0.pete

  • This is the demo vocal track

  • beautiful!!!

  • Excellent!!

  • When was the last time you heard a contemporary pop song with such golden wisdom? For me, it's been a while!

  • love, love, love love these ladies..peace

  • Does anyone remember when this song was on the show "Sister,Sister" ? :D

  • @AshleyandSkyler Yep I do!

  • R.I.P. Florence Ballard

  • @KlTTENZ racist !

  • The music yes ; but not when are black friends were treated badly!

  • Even with the flaws, it would have gone to number one. It is a great song, performed with magic.

  • @KlTTENZ LOL IDK about that. I think we are all even in all fileds as long as we give it our best effort. I would say we r the best dancers next to hispanics before I say we r the best singers. lol. But I have white in my family, married and blood, and they can GET DOWN!!!

  • damn, on a 60's grind!

  • @KlTTENZ The best singers are the ones who sing from their heart and soul

  • Can relate to it. Cheerful-

  • @KlTTENZ Silly Person there is no black or white when it comes to music Because "Art is the Great Equalizer"....I sorta made that up but It sounds about right :)

  • @ArmiesSparkle I CONCUR!!!!!! Music unites us all. <3

  • This is one of the few, the lovely few, which can be called MUSIC.

  • @KlTTENZ *facepalm*

  • this song fucking kicks ass! :D ... love it!

  • how can you dislike the supremes???

  • Comment removed

  • @KlTTENZ av u heard about The Police, Journey or Dolly Parton? Stop the divisions of people!

  • I REALLY want to know who the heck dislikes songs like these?!?! are you trolling? come on now I was born in 1989 and I KNOW these songs are GOLD. nothing at all that can compare with the music now.

  • @Chinesa01 same! born 1989 - this shit is s00 good!

  • @Chinesa01 trolling indeed.

  • Great great great!!!!

  • is that the temps with the supremes at 3:29

  • Great music...;)

  • Music goin' off like FIREWORKS those days! Beatles singles goin' #1 A & B sides too!

  • James and the Funk Brothers working out the tribulations of a young girls heart, amazing, Love the band and the song.

  • I have to choose this over Phil Collins version....timeless classics, both versions, but its something about Diana Ross' voice with this song that has it stand out to me

  • would have never heard this song if it wasnt for Sister Sister

  • of the vids ive been forced to watch, witch was paul anka, dion and the belmonts, the shirelles and ronetts, this is the best so far.

  • Oh, Time Machine... Where are you when we need you?

  • This version sounds charming ^^

  • That masterful Jameson bass is specially good in this version

  • loved and still love them at 40s

  • ilove this video!!! iheard it when i was little in my classroom and i fell in love wit it!! Im glad i found it!!:)

  • Beautiful voice! Great song!

  • Wow, that's incredible. You can hear a professional at work on her phrasings.

  • i heard it once and loved it

  • im 11 and i love this song :)

  • i love this song:)

  • One more thing ... Flo gave this group attitude.

  • The released version is better.

    WAY better.

  • @mmmmarcd Yeah but this practice version has much more prominent bass guitar in the mix, which is very cool. And it's quite instructive to see how it developed into the finished product.

  • i like this song....!!!!!

  • interesting to hear this alternative take. it sounded like Diana had not quite gotten it all down yet on this track.

  • Son divinas!!!

  • MAGIC

  • damn i love 80s !

  • @kakangize awesome! thank goodness this is the 60's

  • @TheVictoriaAlexandra absolutely past time music was awesome :D

  • Just fabulous

  • Interesting "sadiq2008", Something tells me your Daddy didn't even have Pubic Hair when The Supremes RULED, Do your Homework "Little Boy", you know Nothing of what you speak

  • How can anyone dislike this song?

    #DoesNotCompute

  • I'm a singer, and a darn good one, that soulfulness is just part of our African roots.

  • Indeed such a great song.

  • Comment removed

  • love black vocals. these are beautiful ladies

  • Such Crap, The wave was over, Better groups crushed The Supremes, Patti, The Three Degrees etc, The Closer Miss Mary got to that Lead Singers Microphone, the faster The Supremes Decomposed, Jean Terrell kept them going for a few years, but the end was in sight

  • @TheReturnOfBigBear

bananarama crushed the supremes, and also bananarama crushed the three degrees.

  • Why would someone comment that black people are better singers. Chris Clark was white and on Motown and she sang well. Shame Diana Ross left the Supremes and wasn't fully replaced. Mary Wilson is the 2nd best member of the group.

  • @wpaulvandyk

Well, most of them are , what's wrong with that. Humans shouldn't feel like everything has to be a competition

  • They changed a lot of times the members of this group!

    Diana sings so well!

  • fuck phil collins

  • kittenz, when you put it that way, it's kinda hard to argue with you. Yeah there were some good white singers (Righteous Bros), but they tried to pattern after the great black pop / motown singers. Supremes, Crystals, 4 Tops, Lionel Richie, Shirelles... the best of all time! Thanks for posting! I could listen to the Doo Wop songs(the Tymes,Jerry Butler) and motown all day long.

  • Wow! Realy an original take 1, including misread the lyrics at 0:48

    Love it

  • @KlTTENZ Ignorant comment.

  • @KlTTENZ arent they tho? :)

    one love ya'll

  • Thank you!!!!!!!!!!! ^^

  • this original version is far better than phil collins,no comparison.

  • My favorite Supremes song.

  • STOP IN THE NAME OF LOVE...MY ALL TIME FAVORITE...I HAD A GROUP IN GRAMMER SCHOOL, WE HAD ALL THE 45'S OF THE SURPREMES...STILL HAVE THEM!! AND THEIR ALBUM....WOW...TALK ABOUT MEMORIES..THANKS FOR SHARING SUE.

  • LOL, I just realised... Town Called Malice almost has the same bassline as this~

    I love both

  • aaaaaaahhhhhhhhh winter of 1969 first official date. we had the back seat of a 1957 chevy wagon. ahhhhhhhhhh memories rofl

  • phil collins version is better in my opinion

  • Reminds me of Drakes Ring Dings when they were 6 inches wide, made of real dark chocolate, and cost only ten cents.

  • its like 72 in saigon .

  • 24 people dont believe in love

  • LOVE IT!!!

  • Motown!!! :)

  • If you didn't live through this period of time, there's no way I can possibly tell you how good it was.

  • @romienomie You're right. There was a kind of magic in the music that has been lost. The song stayed with

you long after the record was done. There was a real effort that each singer put into their performance and

they felt the music and the words. Too bad, it's been lost.

  • @35gtxracing How has hit been lost? The music is still around today - we're listening to it now on YouTube. The irony is that many people thought this was crap back in the sixties. Every generation repeats the same old thing about generations before.

  • @35gtxracing its called drugs

  • @romienomie wasnt that great for afro american people back then ....

  • Comment removed

  • @ToFierce2handle exactly. African Americans had it tough back then. Couldn't have been that great a time.

  • @TheElfThatLied History books often overlook that many of these motown groups were from or moved to Detroit, and Michigan has a very long history of being ahead of its time in regards to equal treatment of minorities. In Warriors Don't Cry, Ms. Beals recounts that on a trip to Detroit she was pleasantly shocked that many white people there treated her as an equal and weren't "afraid" of her.

  • Exactly how I feel right now! AMAZING!!

  • @jettvallon problably because girls that sings motown problably has the best singing voices ever :)

  • @jettvallon Keep your head up, you'll be okay! :)

  • I actually like this version more than the one they play on the radio and the one that's on CD's. It's got that "unrehearsed" sound to it. :)

  • Who is the original singer for this song? I've always thought it was Phil Collins.

  • @ivansofun Diana Ross and The Supremes are the original singers of this song. :)

  • @travis7310 Careful Travis!, There are Dangerous Psychotic Forces out there that will KILL anyone that Uses the Title Diana Ross & The Supremes on any release prior to 1967! They exist in "A WORLD of DISTORTED REALITY", Be Cautious!, TWTR4EVER, Kurtsupreme & DetroitLives are watching our Every Move!

  • @ivansofun These gals, "The Girls" as Ed Sullivan called 'em. 20 years before Phil Collins even rehearsed this song!

  • Does anyone else think that the bass line at the beginning sounds a lot like "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" by JET?

  • @ZacktheQuackAttack "Lust for Life" by Iggy Pop actually, which Jet copied.

  • @Mariabadasschic what kind of people are they? lol

  • Now that I heard this song by the supremes I can tell the original version is way better than Phil collin's version, I don't know why, but there's sth about the way they sing it(that's my opinion)

  • @joshua50101 , Phil's version isn't as passionate, sounds too synthetic and the arrangement isn't as interesting.

  • @SpazChat yeap u r so right! that must be it.

  • I can only imagine it was hard for them to get the feel of these songs, you know the feel that made them famous! Hard, hard work! I remember seeing Diana in an interview saying that it's hard. You don't just get up there and sing, it's hard work.

  • No matter how many takes it TOOK James Jamerson was solid on them all :)

  • damn this is real music

  • people now a days need to hear this song. you just have to wait.

  • great song very inspiring.
