It's a shame that when the lyrics were changed and the song was renamed Love Me Tender, that credit wasn't given to George R Poulton the original melody maker. Curiously, the songwritng credits were given to Elvis Presley and Vera Matson. It was Vera's husband Ken Darby who changed the lyrics and when asked why he had put his wife down as co-songwriter with Elvis, he replied: 'Because she didn't write it either.'
