  • I've always thought the relationship between mother and daughter in this movie was so sad. For a mother to be so bitter and jealous of her own child is just so hard to watch. And you can see in this scene how much the daughter wants acceptance from her mother. However what's the most heart breaking is that the mother will never accept and love her daughter the way her daughter needs.

  • I love this movie very much - it makes you to think a little bit. Confused but very interesting storyline. Sandra Bullock and Ellen Burstyn are adorable actresses but I wanna give a credit to Ashley Judd. She showed the most impressive and stunning acting. Ashley made this film. Anyway I loved all the actors and actresses

    Wonderful Film!!!

  • The Actress is Cherry Jones, she is fantastic, and a Broadway Tony Winner. She does her homework and it shows in EVERYTHING she does.

  • The mother looks so authentically Acadian. The actress was a perfect fit for the role. Her accent is close to Louisiana Brahmin (plantation aristocracy), though, and I don't know if that's the social class the author saw her as being.

I have Brahmin friends from families in Acadiana, but all of them are of mainline French, or Italian lineage. However, religion had their grandparents twisted into little balls of fear and rage just like the mother here. So she could be entirely authentic.
