  • A few bands use these as a cheap replacement for a sample board. As the circuitry inside is worth like 3 times what you pay for the guitar (they make all the money back from game sales.)

Just plug it into a laptop, get a hacked driver so it can be used as an interface and use key-mapping software to map samples to each button.

  • cool, that could be a nice first step to bring Your son on the way to play a real instrument ...

maybe if he sees somebody like Sungha Jung in the net (his YT channel is jwcfree), he wants even to start to learn at least Ukulele ... ;-)

  • @bangalorebobbel Sungha Jung is really good. I gave my son a guitar a while back, and he hasn't started learning it yet, but he's getting a lot more interested in music now, so it will be there when he's ready to learn.

  • very good.

  • Interesting....but I must say that I am a big fan of Guitar Hero and Rockband. I bought my first game a year and a half ago for my sons and I to play together and I've bought all the games since. I've spent many, many hours playing them and probably will keep doing so, and not a single purposeful thing will occur while I do it except that I have fun and listen to music at the same time.

  • @Baggahammers And you're spending time having fun with your kids. That's priceless. Much better than sitting and watching TV with them.

  • I agree with you. So many people spend so many hours playing guitar hero and rock band and I always thought it you were going to spend that many hours learning to play why not learn to play for real. What a cool program. We actually have a couple of bars around here that have guitar hero nights where people get on stage (like karaoke) and play. The ones with the highest score of course win

  • @WildBill1006 Yeah, it's neat to see someone turn something pointless into something useful. The Guitar Hero guitar is really sturdy and designed to have its buttons pushed millions of times, so it does make a pretty good instrument with the right software.
