Styx without Dennis DeYoung........................just can't see it (or stomach it). No disrespect to Gowan. I know he's talented. It's just not the same.
This is one awesome live performance by Styx. I once dedicated this song to a lady I was dating back in 2002. I married that same lady 3 and a half years later, and nearly 6 years after I married her, I still love her very much. She is my Lady forever.
@MrMegaFredzeppelin Thanks BRO!!! I know a lot of people were not happy when Dennis DeYoung left Styx. So it wouldn't be the same without the original core lineup. Glad you like my comment. This was (and still is) my song to my wife :)
Beautiful love song. Too bad u cant find the original studio version that we used to hear on the radio, but this is the closest Ive heard to it- nearly flawless
It is true that Dennis DeYoung is the best singer for the Styx band, however, he is the person who also ruined Styx with the brutal musical concept performance. Styx was literally booed off of the stage with the Kilroy was here fiasco.
@bethanycat Hi BethanyCat! Styx - Return To Paradise DVD Filmed at The Riviera which was transformed into The Paradise Theater for this event. This 108 minute DVD video includes 17 top hits from Styx i ncluding Rockin the Paradise, Blue Collar Man, Lady, Too Much Time on My Hands, and more A video diary from the "Return to Paradise" tour, Filmed on 1996's Autumnal Equinox -- a fittingly mystical date for a group so concerned with nature and magic -Stevie B!
The one and ONLY voice of Styx! Keep touring with cheap imposter JY and Tommy, and you'll keep playing at backyard BBQ's and elementary school auditoriums. That Gowan goofball looks like something from a Cabaret show.
@GuitarWholesale Man! They all do, It must be a prerequisite for anyone who wants to ente the band. Their Vocals and harmonizing make them who they are. -Stevie B!
It's really weird if JY and Tommy truly hate Dennis and wish death upon him, then why do they look like their having the time of their lives sharing the stage with Dennis?
I was 5 when this song was first released and I just remember being struck by the sound of the Wurlitzer piano. There is a deep and mysterious underlying feel in the opening that I still can't put my finger on. A chilling feeling of that love you have search for, but have not found. Her soul escapes you, yet you still feel her presents.
Love the song... love the group! Saw them play at St. Xavier College gym and Lourdes HS many times back in the day!!! Thanks for the music! I believe they opened up for BTO at Chicago Stadium and being there!
i think the original percussion instrument during the piano intro part was something other than a tambourine which is what i'm hearing here. anybody know what it was originally?
Dennis was my 8th grade music teacher in 1970, then the band was called TW4. Dennis is from Roseland. I saw their first performance as STYX at Marist High School in 1971. They started out as a great cover band and of course the rest is history.
@VIDRYE If Dennis was my music teacher I would have done absolutely everything he told me to do and then some. Would have paid attention every single day.
Saw Styx last night and they are still amazing !! Of course we would all love to see Dennis sing again with the band but last night Larry Gowan was on the money. Great video post....
I use to watch them practice in Park Forest, Illinois, at Dennis' home. They played in the garage, with that famous "Wurlitzer" piano. That's where Dennis lived. Back in the early 70's, I saw them perform at Park Forest plaza, a "shopping mall"! Then God knows how many times I saw them play at our high school, the great Homewood - Flossmoor! This was me and my girlfriends song. Will never forget this band or the good Ole' days.Seems like it was yesterday!
@AlexSteffek Hello Alex's Dad. This is Stevie2112Rush, I am the owner of this site and I wanted to VERIFY what you said, Since I am from YOUR AREA, I can say; All of your facts are right on. Those must have been great times to be seeing a band that would represent our area for years to come. -Steve
@Stevie2112Rush Steve, I'll never forget those days. Very few people know how Styx struggled. Playing high schools and other small venues. I feel very fortunate to have been there in the "early days". To this day, I still get that "chill" down my spine when I hear Lady. I can picture them practicing that song in the garage like it was yesterday.
@Stevie2112Rush Nice to see the facts confirmed. It must have been great to see them then.
I am from New Jersey Shore and the same thing here watcheing Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band play in one of the band members garage. Can't beat seeing a legend in the making. Sir David
@AlexSteffek oh lord....this is awesome.....this song and Styx played a big part in my life.....I kneel down to you for just being a part of Dennis and the band and this song....dang............how awesome is that?
what year was this performance? I love all the members of styx...Tommy is a great singer and still sounds as good as back then...why do you guys hate them so bad? They just chose to disagree and went their different ways...
I wouldn't pay to see Styx either - JY & Tommy are so full of it, it's unbelievable. Unfortunately, they have opened for Def Leppard (one of my favorite bands) for the past few years...
I know what you mean. I lived in Chicago myself and there is something that Dennis DeYoung brings brought to the group. It's a Chicago thing. I saw STYX in 2006, and they were different. I had never seen them as the original band.
I was about to go to a "new" Styx concert. Then when I found out Dennis was out of the group I said hell no. I'm glad I didn't go, its not the same without him. Same goes for Journey w/o Steve Perry.
rjuzzo-You got up & left, good for you, i would have been pissed to spend the money on todays 'STYNX' members! If it were for free i still couldn't stomache that crap!
The first show on this tour was in West Palm Beach, Fl... I was there. I saw them a few years before as well. This is one of the last shows that this group of Styx ever played together. This show in Chicago was the last on the "Return to Paradise" tour. It may actually be THE last one. Somebody do some research for us and find out. I saw the new group of Styx in 2004 and um... I left. I couldn't stand hearing Lady without it coming from Dennis' mouth. Rock on Mr. DeYoung...
i'm 14 and seen styx 5 times but unfortunatly without dennis! i want to see dennis in concer some time!! i think styx isnt styx with out the originals!!
This is a timeless classic....one of the best rock ballads ever. By the way Dennis will be on Long Island doing an outdoor free concert at Tanner Park in Copiague on August 7th.
I have this performance on DVD. Just awesome. Dennis has a voice like no other. Just sad that John was unable to unite with his brother and the rest of the group for this tour. RIP John.
Super wonderful this is one of the most excelent songs of the Rock- balads. Styx , Boston, Electric Light Orchestra and Queen were the royalty of the rock, the best of the best!!!!!
This such a timeless, pretty, romantic song, it sounds and looks fantastic. Sorry, lol, I had to listen to it again..and comment again too. I haven't seen them since 2000, but I have a life time of memories!!
Wow! Dennis still sounds great, and the boys sounded awesome together! I got to see the 'Paradise Theatre' tour in Frankfurt in 82! That was such a great show I saw it 2 nights in a row! I still got the stubs!
I have seen them alot and they always have put on a great show. Especially Tommy. He moves all over the place Rockin' Out. Nobody can sing this like Dennis.
Incredible! Fabulous! I saw them twice in their glory! This song brings back such great memories! I love these guys! All great talents in their own rights!
