  • This production wasn't superb, but Sherie totally stole the show. She had such a killer portrayal of Ursula, and that voice...holy shit. So much power and control. How can you not love her?

  • @ExcoriatedZero You're right. I think Sherie did a better than Carroll's version. She's a much better Ursula. Her voice is perfect for the psychotic role.

  • Sherie's a legend, so nyeh.

  • Great! I kinda can sing like it.

  • love the song, but in the movie is somthime better

  • 2 people are dumb..

  • what key is this in!?!?!

  • I want this on my ipod :(

  • Ah..... nowhere near Emily Skinner.

  • Damn! She wails on that note!

  • Everyone has a different outlook on their character, maybe this was the way she thought she could use her voice and acting better. I love it b/c it's different.

  • Daaaaaaaamn, that long "SOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUULLLLLLL!" was kick-ass.

And I love her way of talking. God, what a yente.

  • I think Sherie, in regards to singing voices that have played the part, makes the best Ursula

  • Sherie might not be who I'd imagine as Ursula because we are so used to her being a contralto like Pat Carroll was. That said I think she is an amazing singer. All the best singers are mezzo-sopranos who have remarkable control over their vocals. Sherie is one of them.

  • Based on some previous comments I am guessing it has closed all ready and thank G-d for that. Gave me nightmares what they were doing to one of the best and most Iconic of Disney's gems.......

  • she is good if misguided for getting involved in this travesty of a production. I would have had hope for it had Disney not pissed off the one person who may have been able to do The Little Mermaid the justice it deserves and requires to be anything other than some awful monstrosity of theme park meets Broadway meets Disney on ice minus the ice. All the talent Sherie Rene Scott may have wont be enough to save it just make the medicine go down a bit more easily........

  • Haha it's hard to take Ursula seriously anymore after hearing this version. Now she doesn't sound so scary to me no longer! XP

  • I absolutely LOVE the way she sings this. The Ursula in the movie and a deeper voice. I think I like this one better.

  • I'm so freakin' excited. I'm Ursula in our June ballet, and this song makes me so happy.

  • Disney Ursula=Contralto

    Broadway Ursula=Mezzo-Soprano

  • when she says when the sun sets on the third day...does she kinda sound like maleficent

  • Do you know where his version is in Karaoke anywhere!?!

I need it for auditions that I am doing...

  • This musical brought tears to my eyes!!!! I really wish they would reopen for a weekend or one night!! This is the first Broadway play that I've seen!!

  • Small print is the devil's playground.

  • @roxie761 since its based off of the movie isnt it a given that the play is going to be compared to the movie and while i like this version the movie version is 1 million times better, sherrie doesnt use enough theatrics and isnt dramatic enough for the character of ursula, i mean the movie ursula is soooooo much better, and she doesnt belt the whole time so it leaves her somewhere to go throughout the song and they changed too much in the play

  • I think she sings this better live, I honestly prefer the live version over the recording

  • Okay, don't get mad at me, but why is there so much editing on her voice? Yeah, she is a talented singer (believe me, I LOVE The Last 5 Years), but I feel like there's a hefty amount of pitch correction.

  • I love the 'Swim! Swim for your life, human child!' at 4:25

  • THAT LAST NOTE SHE HITS

OH MY GOD I DIE EVERYTIME. She's AMAZING.

  • the best thing in this musical!!!!

I hate when people compare this version with the movie, this is theatre, is way different; she plays with the tones to show the twist of the character, is a part of the construction of the character.

  • ariel should be the one wanting her voice...

  • What the fuck?... You cut the best part out... (The wrap up of the score) The singers are great, but the scores are what I want to hook to my veins and of course no one will release those unadulterated...

  • @Ninjadelusion i knwo that is BY FAAR THE BEST PART

  • I love love love this version!!

Can anyone send it to me?

  • I can't stop listening to this version! The original is great, but I like how the actress interpreted Ursula in this version as well. She makes the character seem more lively and fun-loving, perfect for a Broadway show.

  • I agree. To be honest, I hated the film. But I do enjoy how the musical made it a lot more fun-loving. Ursula's voice/appearance always bothered me in the original, it fit, but it still was creepy as hell (probably the intention). I like this actress because she's a bit more humorous and distracts the audience from her scheming, hahah.

  • You're not alone! Ursula scared the crap out of me when I was younger, probably because of how androgynous she was. Now she's one of my favorite Disney villains. I think the reason I like both interpretations of the character is because the actresses understand her motives and add psychotic, power-hungry undertones to their performances. I really can't choose one over the other because they're both fun to watch.

  • i prefer the recorded ones from the live shows on youtube

her voice sounds too edited here

  • she certainly has a wonderful voice. but I still prefer the original Ursula. I find her more ironic and funny, as well as psychotic

  • This Ursula doesn't need to steal Ariel's voice! The voice is still fit for Vanessa.

  • She's definitely good, but she's just not Ursula. Seems like a completely character from the original, voiced by Pat Carroll

  • I'ts a different approach. Actors are allowed to interpret a character however they choose. Honestly, i like this approach.

  • @LarkinProductions yeah, that's true. I should've said "she's just not Ursula to me".

  • Wow, I love this, it's brilliant.

  • Sherie is so awsome! I hope she returns for the tour!

  • i think someone should do this in kid version

  • that note at the end WOW!!

  • @broadwayxdude06 God I know! I LOVE YOU SHERIE RENE!

  • i love her voice

  • I am SO mad that this show is closing soon, I Really wanted to see it.

  • When is it closing?!

  • this sunday:(

  • can u tell me why its close? cuz i tried to look but i dont know why

  • I actually like this version of the song better :) Beacuse she kinda makes Ursula seem more... exciting.. She makes it funnier.. and she's acting like Ursula has a lot of self confidence I think thats way COOL!! And her she has an amazing voice :O <33

  • when will ms scott leave the show?

  • a-ma-zing.

  • I want to see this so bad, but I think the time it reaches SD, Sherie wont be here.

I love the way she sang this.

    It's my absoulete favorite, I'm obsessed. *_*

  • lol first time i heard this song by her was on a bootleg and i thought she said "bitch" instead of "witch".

ive loved Sherie ever since i heard her sing walking in space.

  • lol. me too, i actually think it would have made it funnier.

  • THIS play was awesome!

  • A-MA-ZING

  • this is the best version of Poor Unfortunate Souls I have EVER heard!! the one with the other person is really bad after every note she goes "ah" or "eeh" lol sheri is sooo awsome

  • I think some of the negative comments here are unfair and think Sheri's Ursula should be judged within the context of the stage show - not the movie.

If you think about it, her portrayal is perfect for the character. Ursula is evil and psychotic. Sheri manipulates her vocals to reflect those unstable aspects of Ursula's personality. That said, I don't think her Ursula would fit the movie just as I don't think Carroll's Ursula would fit the Broadway show.

  • i love sherie rene scott

  • er...It seems to come naturally to Ursula in the movie, but here....it just comes off as over acting.

  • no one beats pat carroll

  • they chose the right person to play ursula on broadway!!!!! shes perfect for the roll

  • Honestly, this has got to be one of the best Broadway adaptation albums I've ever heard. Beauty and the Beast rocked, Tarzan was cool, and Lion King was amazing, but this is so on the money as far as talent and music.

  • Wicked great too!

  • Agreed. They have such talented people working on this show.

  • you'd put the Lion King under this one? interesting.

  • I wish she was single. I'd marry her in a second.

  • I totally agree! She has the ultimate broadway voice. It's amazing!!!

  • Oh and she was truly AMAZING on the last note!!! Much, much better than the Ursula in the original Little Mermaid Disney movie production.

  • OH WOW!!!! I LOVE Sherie!!! She is just STUNNING in this song! I think i might have heard this before, and i was like, 'Hmm.. her voice sounds familiar...' AND NOW I KNOW WHY!!! Wow, i never knew it was her singing!!!! =DDDD She is AWESOME!

  • She rocks! One of the greatest musical theatre actress working today.

  • mm, really gr8 casting here ppl :)

    Delightful, right on the money.

  • She is so AMAZING! I just saw little mermaid last night, and I loved it!!!! I was really sad that she didn't come out to sign autographs, though. I got everyone's but hers (and I wanted to meet her so bad!!!!)She snuck out the back supposivly! =-(

  • Sherie is amazing. I would kill to see her in this. But my parents took me to NYC to see RENT earlier this month so I doubt I can go again for a while. If Sherie is still in the cast next year I am definitly going. Does anyone know when her contract expires?

  • Did you like RENT?

  • I loved it! The show was amazing.

  • Shes leaving January 29th, 2009 I believe

  • nope[= she didnt leave i just saw heron thursday, Feb. 19th and she was great!

  • She left sometime in late MArch early April

  • Sherie's amazing, I would looooove to see her in this... Little Mermaid was my favorite movie when I was little, and I adore her version of this song!! She has a real nasty but brilliant edge to her voice that I love very much.

  • She's fabulous.

  • ...If you don't make the music your own, you're a pretty bad performer, for one thing. And for another, reinterpreting music from a movie to make it a Broadway show is a different issue than just simple reinterpretation to begin with.

  • actors are supposed to reinterpret everything. Otherwise they're just copying and in that case, what's the point of even redoing it?

  • I think you misunderstood what I was trying to say - it's a sloppy reinterpretation - it's all over the place. there's nothing particularly consistent about her performance. I'm all for reinvention, as a performer I understand how necessary it is.

  • I have to agree. Though I do enjoy the song, when compared to the original, she seems like a creepy aunt, not an evil villan

  • In the show she is a creepy aunt.

  • well its broadway

its a different type of music

  • Stole the show. Sherie Rocked. Long live Ursula.

  • I would have expected Ursula to have a deeper and more menacing voice, but Sherie possesses the tone of a more refined and sinister evil. This is great, thanks for posting!

  • I saw Sherie on Broadway two years ago in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and this sounds nothing like her! ITS AMAZING!!!! She pulls this off really well! She's a great Ursula.

  • hahhaha sherie is AMAZING.

  • Sherie is what makes this musical awesome =]

(sorry to anyone who really loves it, but I'm not a big fan of disney musicals on broadway)

  • it's amazing that someone CAN be upstaged by thir own ass.

  • Sherie stoll the show. She was truly amazing, best parts of this musical were her scenes in my opinion. SRC for prez.

  • that last note! omg

  • she is my favorite ursula.

  • Yep its from the recording, when I first heard it I thought it was live.. I love LOVE Shiere

  • @HaveAHappyHoliday Same!!!! I LOVE IT!

  • is this live? great sound

  • Nah, it's just from the Cast Recording. Great sound quality isn't?
