Most Of the "Tech Stuff is above the anchors in a booth directors, producers ect...But the Only place they dont stand is directly in front of the window
Actually the ABC 7 control room is on the 3rd floor of the 190 State Street building where their newsroom and old studio (now 190 N set) is located. The camera control is up to the up to the right of the news desk on set just out of view (as in up) and behind the set is where the lighting and prompter person is.
Eh, the way you described it is kinda like in Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. None of the TV Stations, at least here in Chicago, have that kind of set up. CBS 2's is about 200 yards from their studio but on the same floor. ABC 7's is 3 floors up and kinda set back in the building. NBC 5's is now on the first floor of the Tower off behind the studio. Fox's is on the same floor connected to the studio via a door and WGN's is on the same floor but nowhere near the studio.
I would agree, listen to the levels of music there. Lots of different instruments and that music is synonymous with WLS TV Chicago. BTw, new set is much better too...Old set was way to big and way to bland.
I meant the footage of chopper 7 flying over the city when the credits where running you idiot!! learn how to read a post before you reply with a stupid comment. You look like an ass...
I remember this set had ABC 7 logos all over it didn't it? They had that one until 2000 or 2001 didn't they?? Then they redid the set to the one that was used before the new State Street Studio was completed. I thought the previous ones looked so small.
Yeah but someone complained about the old studio. There was enough stuff there. Just not set up the same way which prevented certain camera angles and stuff without showing "behind the scenes" stuff which most TV station dont like to show. With this new studio you can do anything.
The best way I can describe the way the opens differ is that on the 6 and 10:00 show a drum and trumpet are used... in the other opens EXCEPT ABC7 News This Morning There is NO hard drum noise and the instrument making the music is a clarinet and a flute (I play a instrument so I know what they sound like)
I have studied this music hard, and I have found out the following: The 6 and 10pm open instrumentsation includes a French Horn, floor toms, and a tympani set. Replacing those instruments in the 11am/4pm/5pm open on the other hand, includes an Oboe, high strings, and a regular rock drum beat tward the end. The morning theme: Trumpet, High/Low Strings, Piano, French Horn, Tympani, Snare drum, Chimes, Suspended/Crash Symbols, a little bit of Oboe & Flute hidden among the High Strings.
This theme has always been my favorite and I wouldn't want them to change it. I don't like the local news much on ABC 7 in New York or Los Angeles. It doesn't have the local feel to it that Chicago's ABC 7 News has plus I don't care for that Eyewitness News theme at all.
There are two different variations of the theme. ABC 7 Chicago uses the softer toned (as I call it) version on the 11am, 4pm, and 5pm newscasts. You'll notice the opening theme and the music during the newscast to be different than the more hard news version for the 6pm & 10pm newscasts. The closing music for all the newscasts is the same except on the morning newscast.
I agree. I like orchestral closes and opens as opposed to random sounds. Our WSB TV2 here in Atlanta has been on the same them since 1998. Its a signature sound. News Series 2000 Plus is a signature sound. IT has made the transition to HD as well....I think another Chicago station messed with the formual once. WLS got Ron Majers on that one.
Yes. and WLS's Creative Department manager has told me that WLS is working with Gari Communications on an updated version of this theme. I can't wait!
This WLS theme is absolutely timeless. I mean, how can you listen to the point between :41 and :54 and not feel something inside? I may never hear 15 seconds of television production music that sounds better in my entire life. If Gari can make the update sound better than this, which I think is next to impossible, he will be an absolute genius.
Gari has created a lot of timeless music packages, and this package is certainly one of them. I wish ABC would've comissioned NS2000+ instead of EWN for their O&O's
This is like the KGO close in 1998 but it featured the Bay Bridge, Mt Sutro facing the Financial District of San Francisco and San Jose Silicon Valley
Yeah...this is where I get my "Inspiration" from lol. Then we take the main ideas and sortta flip them around so they stay realistic to actual news, but TRY to make it funnier.
It sounds okay but it's not as bold as WGN. WGN long close rocks.

@dc4u54 Well you have to consider that this theme is close to 20 years old, and it still sounds so good today.

dude, it was 5:27 when it ended. I guess they didn't have a lot of news that day. Or is that when they normally ended? (I know it's only a half hour)

On weekends they close the 5pm at 5:27. During the week they go right up to World News.

How many people liked the helicopter shot during the close theme better then a bunch of idiots waving at a camera at the end? I did!

than the one previous to this one...THE DESK WAS SO BIG! You couldn't see anything but anchors, the backdrop, and the desk....it was horrible.

isnt that the point of a desk. for the anchors to sit and and stuff. there was really nothing else in that studio anyway except the weather center.
