This rendition seems to lack spirit and purpose. Guess the guys weren't working together this night. That's a shame because this is a magnificant piece of musical magic with intricately woven harmonies and sycopation throughout, but here is only noticable at the end. This piece alone could have been his doctral thesis. It's really too bad this group didn't do more we could use them right about now.
Thanks Doriangrey for posting this excellent live version of Dance of the Maya. I love Jerry Goodman's violin playing on this, and it's entertaining watching Billy Cobham on drums. Of course John McLaughlin, Jan Hammer and Rick Laird are great as well.
video quality is great but sound quality at the concert seems to have had lots of problems. Mahavishnu on a bad day is still better than most bands on their best but this concert doesn't even come close to the legendary Cleveland 1972 concert recording where they opened for Procol Harum & West, Bruce & Laing. That concert just rips non-stop from beginning to end.
Grande,la Mahavishnu!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Viva John McLaughlin y el Upite!!!!
