With the most modern pickup, probably little if any damage due to low compliance to the vertical groove. But you would not WANT to! The sound is terrible: very little volume, and distortion.
Use a STEREO cartridge, with a way of shutting off the lateral signal, just for Edisons (other verticals). A switch to intercept the signal, before it reaches the speaker, is ideal. Switch to lateral, switches it to the other wires, that respond to the lateral signal from Victors, Columbias, etc.

If you played this DD on a standard lateral phono/diamond 78 stylus, what are the consequences? That D-25 is some phonograph.
