  • fucking great playing. you have a great feel to your playing

  • Great tone. With Which ENGL amp do you play?

  • Really good audio quality. It also sounds like you transposed it up a key or something, I like it this way. Great Ed cover.

  • Why the capo? Nice version, I did like your improv for the interlude.

  • Not bad atoll

  • The video quality chugs my dirty asshole juice.

  • no.

  • next van halen :D

  • COOL!!!!

  • You pretty much nailed the 'BROWN SOUND'!

I think Eddie would be proud.

  • what guitar pc-port do you use? im searching for a good one :)

  • Quite nice.

  • Which amps are you using? It doesnt sound real engl ish. I dont like engl, but I like ur tone.

  • Its a blend between a Thunder 50 Combo (no reverb) & Laney GH100TI half stack, with a slight bit of processing from the TC Electronic GMajor.

  • who do u get that extact tone pedal amp wood

    plessae reply

  • ery good love how u made it your own u ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Are you using 500k pots? The custom sounds great in that guitar.

  • Yep, CTS 500k pots in that. Its got a really tight sound. Although the string thru body fixed bridge helps with that.

  • why do u have a capo?

  • The backing track was in standard E tuning and my guitars at the time were in Eb.

  • you rock bro !

  • Beyond the guitar and the playing itself, you have a preety good energy man!

  • Enorme!!!! Very very good man! Good guitarist!!

  • man incredible setting sounds!!!! i clsoe my eyes, end i think this is eddie playing!!! cool man keep working hard!!!!!

  • dude, man what are ur amp and overdrive settings? thanx

  • very good. your tone is excellent

  • Mate, there's a shit load of versions of this number here on YT but your's is definately the best by far. You have totally nailed the tone and the feel and not a painted stripe or maple fretboard in sight. I love the right hand flseh tone style on some of the notation too Hats off to you.

PS - I was shocked to hear you comment that your using a SH-5 in the guitar. Sounds spot on as the pure source so what amp/pedals were you using?

  • Totally agree on that comment!

    :) H

  • Love the wristband! Great overall job too!

  • You nailed the tone, great job on the playing too

  • what pickups u have in bridge..?

  • It is a Seymour Duncan Custom (SH-5)

  • nice, nice sound too

  • One of the best Van Halen songs in the world. EVER!!! Very well done.

  • subbed, faved, 5-stared!

  • awesome! nothing more to say, just watch the video, its incredible

  • Dude, excellent in all respects...I'd like to hear how those that have been adversely critical sound on the same song. You rock!

  • hey wazzup again, im checking up your vids again, i supose you can remember me from the nightrain solo stuff, cuz i totally got impressed, lol, hey dude keep up the good work, excellent, its very good, good tone, i like it most than that heavier distorsion every one has, good!!

  • omfg !!! AWESOME !!!

  • Absolutly Brilliant!

With all the copy cats out there that was great. And by the way was your p/u an SH-11 or was it Eddies little secret @ Seymour Duncan custom shop.Anyway great song and well done!

  • Just as good as it gets..... all there is too it. Haters will hate.....but that's some serious skill in all aspects, touch, feel, tone, and detail. Keep it up PLEASE.

  • I am thinking of getting one of those seymour duncan custom pickups. Do they come F-Spaced.

  • Excellent tone, but a bit more practice and you're there.

  • Sounds like you need to use heavier attack. Was good though.

  • Great sound, great hand and obviously a great influence from Eddie ;)

Well done man, keep it up!!

  • your'e just f*cking amazing keep it up:D

  • not bad , be sure to check videos under name of ibanezdemon

  • That is just great. Where did you learn to play like that. Very good:)

  • Si vos realmente estás tokando lo ke suena en el video...te digo...tokás mejor ke eddie...

    *_*

  • no wonder the tone is so good on these vids, ENGL and Laney pwnage

  • i thought u woz miming ur so gd then i realized there were no vocals

  • Ohhhh, by the way, what distortion pedal do you use? I really like that type of guitar tone, you know, it kinda has a lot of "wah-ish" effect to it (at least, in my ears, I dunno how to describe it). But yeah, you said it's custom pickups and stuff but if I used the same sort of effects, could I get something similar to that using like, emg's or something?

  • I don't use any distortion pedals, thats just the sound of the 2 amps combined, it makes that kind of vowel type sound you describe. They aren't "custom" p'ups they are Stock Seymour Duncan SH5 & SN2.

  • Hey man that was awesome. I can tell you're a really great guitarist. I play this song on guitar too but not quite as good as you. I love how you add your own little improvisations into it, and stuff. Great work!

  • Ok, so that was awesome, whats with the strat though?! Its like we have opposites tastes...dual humbuckers sunburst finish, rosewood board...*shiver*

  • Its a custom homebuilt strat, i love the feel of a strat but wanted one to my spec. Its an Ebony fretboard though.

  • Yeah, I was just kinda bugging you...its just a sunburst finish is the last finish I would put on a strat.

  • Eddie van who? dude that was crazy. youve got a nice groove and you nailed the song.

  • This is a video of a cocky son of a bitch who likes to critisize younger kid's videos that never had one lesson in their entire life. Way to go man, your really tough.

  • jelous maby?

  • nice flo!!

  • Nice playing

  • Dude, you are the man.

  • cool tone, nails van halen to a tee

  • Frickin sweet! Very nice rendition of Van Halen. But no Floyd? Come on, man... It's just not the same without the Floyd Rose!

I'm going to take this and put my vocals over it. All it needs is a Dimond Dave voice over and it'd be complete! Do you mind? lmao.

  • perfect, u kept ur face hidden, the first sign of not showing off

  • He might have "guitar mouth" disease. nice playing :).

  • that was awesome... i like that part too ...

  • where did u get the tab f0r that man??

  • Cool

  • Great feel. You are a great player.

  • Dude....Teach me....Haha but seriously I prefere that even to the original recording.

  • Nice job. Good to hear someone have their own rendition of a song other than copying it. Hard to improve on Ed though. So I give it a good 3 stars! Keep it up! Peace

  • That's pretty freaking critical

  • Pretty? Okay, I'll buy that. I thought it was good. You do or not?

  • i luv ur enthusiasm for the music when u play dude! its so friggin inspiring and contagious. keep it up man! u rock!

  • That's fucking awesome ... Better than the original!

  • its called playin over a recording

  • awesome cover

  • eddie would be proud =)

  • Sounds like guitar rig2, or some other modeling software. Nice playing,

  • One thing I'd like to know. What wood is that guitar made out of?

  • Sorry mate, no need to reply, I just didnt check through your answers enough. Awesome playing anyway.

  • Great cover man...now i know if im playing it right or not :D

  • now those are tones - thunder is nice eh? I liked it, great for the money

  • awesome!!!!

  • I would tend to believe its the SH-5 Custom... What amp and pedals do you have there? They sound good.. You play well too!

  • Yes, the bridge hum is an SH-5, neck, an SH-2. Amps have been said many times. But the only effects i have which, i haven't mentioned to anyone is the TC G-Major.

  • exactly what type of ducans are you using?

  • dude u rock!!!!

  • damn dude you kick ass!!

  • did you ear read that shit

  • Pretty much, its not really the most technically advanced song ever, although watching live videos is a good help too.

  • holy shit your smooth

  • Awesome!!!

  • love it i play it differently because i've played with the song so damn much sigh....lol but anyways great sound make more videos man

  • I'm waiting untill i can borrow my mates mics again, wont be too long....

  • Is this another home made backing track ? Btw this is awesome !!!

  • Good for you, Matt! Nice job! Obviously you practice a lot and also take your instrument seriously. Ignore that jealous moron who criticized you. It's a shame that some people have to badmouth others just 'cause they're jealous.

  • Beautiful. Finally someone closer to my age who's got REAL taste!

  • nice guitar!!!

  • Eddie Van Halen is god. I love this song.

All you need to do is stick a nice floyd rose on that baby ;)

  • is that just like a backing track becuase if so where did you get it beacuse i want it

  • I got it from www.guitarbt.com

  • What kind of Engl amp is that?

  • The amp is a Engl Thunder 50 combo w/no reverb.

  • woow...

I understand now, sorry, I should read the other posts before I post mine..

sorry, maybe kind of stupid, but what happens if you use only ENGL, is

  • I like the style you used I think its freaking awesome.

  • dude thats fucking amazing....ur really good...i cant play it tht good haha

  • I don't understand you've said that you used laney and ENGL amps for this vids, but I mainly hear just a lot of ENGL character, do you mean you use a laney cab?

  • You're right that u do hear most of the ENGL sound, but there is a Laney Gh100TI in there aswell, just turns out i didn't like it so prominent, so the Laney just provides abit of the bottom and roundness. The Engl is a 1x12 combo whereas the laney is a head and 4x12 cab.

  • you're playing amazing...

and, can you describe the rig you used on this vid?

that's currently the tone I was looking for..

  • great man...how old are you?

  • Sweet 19

  • it's great to see a guy your age playing some real rock n' roll...thought you'd be playing some depressing grunge stuff. I learned this song 15 years ago but you got it down much better than i did....

  • Great Matt! Huge tone, amazing style, RoCk!!!

  • You played Panama in such a sexy way that I had a wet dream whilst awake! hehe

  • gay??? play so soft..

  • awesome!!!!!! my favourite van halen track!

  • Awesome Matt that F****** rocked! Awesome tone too, im glad my guitarist got a Laney. Dont worry about that deathmetal666 guy, hes probably like 14 with nothing else better to do than waste our time. Rock on!!

  • awesome bro, that dude is just jealous, please do a george lynch one, if this reposts im sorry, my youtube is acting strange.

  • Gr8 job! could you tell me your amp set up for the song?

  • Very nice job, kudos!

  • Anybody with an IQ over 50 knows that this is REALLY MATT playing over a backing track. Awesome job BTW.

  • I'm startin to get sick of this, but if u can find who played it and their credit to playing it, then i will gladly accept ur comment. I don't know what more proof i need, the only thing i can think of is that the video & audio can go slightly out of sinc & so it may look like i'm not playing it. But i'd like to see another person play panama the same way i do.

  • theres no need to find who played it..its obviously not you...though its very convincing...ur an amateur producer but im a fuckin pro guitarist u dumbshit..i know what vanhalen sounds like compared to a kid masturbating in his room..

fuck off...anyone can play panama beter than you can

  • i enjoyed that, i've seen ur vids & i must admit i would put u in my top10 best guitarists of all time. Ur skill floors me every time.

  • lmao... what a moron... why u bother posting anyway? serious.

  • this comment is referred to deathmetal, btw. no idea why it doesnt appear below his comment, since i clicked on "reply to this", anyways, very impressive playing, matt.

  • I fucking love it !

  • Nice interpretation of that. I liked it.

  • the guy has issues matt, check out his own videos and the comments people have left :P

  • well..want to know how the sound is so good? HES NOT PLAYING...its a backing track for the song itself..

    play somethin real poser

  • Yeah, obviuosly its a backin track, but theres no guitar on it, why would there be so many guitar parts that aren't in the song. No whammy bar, different verse, the quiet section is totally changed. I'm a amatuer producer aswel so i know how to make guitars sound half decent, so don't give me that shit. Also its not recorded from the sound of the room, its done properly. Next ur gonna tell me all the others are fake too even the live gig one.

  • Matt, dude dont bother to answer to those fuckers who criticize. its obvious that u played it and thats all it matters. just keep doing what youre doing and ignore those dumbfucks who think they know it all and who think theyre better than everyone else. Keep it up man! outstanding!

  • simply amazing

  • Really nice.. sound like EVH ..somewhat..

  • Thanks for the info, Matt. It sounds very nice.

  • Please Matt, why do you put a capo at the first fret?

  • There's 3 reasons for this, one is that the guitar is tuned to Eb because my band tune to this. 2 is that the backing was recorded in E. 3 because my custom strat has a s**tly cut nut so the action is high and it doesn't intonate well, so a capo solves that problem until i put a new nut in.

  • you make it look so f'n easy !

    i'm jealous!

  • fucken great sound, how are you doing that?

  • Look at the comments above.

  • This is the best I've ever seen, hands down.

  • Great jab man! The headline reads Laney & Engl, but what models did you use exactley, and what are the settings? I really dig your sound!!!

  • The amps i use are the Laney GH100TI & ENGL Thunder 50 combo, i cant remeber the settings they change everyday. Fairly low gain, one amp is fairly mid heavy the other has quite a bit of top end response. The sound is hard to achieve with just one of the listed amps, i use both together.

  • to answer the last 3 ?'s

The strat is custom made (not fender, squire etc) ash body with maple top, ebony fretboard, seymour duncan humbuckers & hardtail string-thru body. A very thick sounding guitar.

What parts do u wanna know 'peaveylover22'?

And yes that is capo on the first fret.

  • do you have a capo on the neck or wtf is that?

  • dude..teach me!....i can never find the correct tabs for panama

  • this stuff is awesome man. how long you been playing? and how do you get that sound out of a strat? I have one myself, but cant get a good sound out of it. I dont listen to Van Halen much anyways, but you make it sound good. keep it up

  • this is really really good, keep it up

  • Awesome, good job!

  • u play it nice man.. its may not be exactly the same wit panama by van halen but, u got some nice improvement there.. yo i miss lee roth

  • sweet

  • lol what kind of amp u use?

  • Some videos of people playin guitar on here look like they've been shot in the head, as they just stand there with a vacant expression, all the good players legs hop everywhere....Angus Young?

  • lol he's got rythem thats why

  • lmao.

    His legs all hoppin

  • omg!thats friggin awsome keep it brutal

  • ** throws up the devil horns ** You made my day, you faceless wonder! Your Strat is Excalibur!

  • Okay, I leave the comments to the yuggins here. This I have to comment on. Who needs David Lee Roth's vocals. This is one of my favorite tunes and I'm a old fart. Totally, completely pro. Eddie Van Halen class guitar work. This would be perfect to rip in a fast car with, engage in raw, merciless sex to, and have on the loudspeakers while leveling a city. I always thought Pananma should have been the Army's theme song in the Panama Invasion.

Dude. First class all the way.

  • I've been playin electric since i was 13, but guitar in general from age 8, so 11-12 years.

  • *droolz* guitar players are hot! nice sound!! =)

  • very impressive man! how long u been playing for?

  • Very Cool, Keep it up!!

  • looking forward to beat it, possibly the coolest solo ever?

just incase you don't know already, Seymour Duncan sell the EVH pickup from their custom shop; supposedly wound the same way as the original. If you like the Eddie sound, I can definitly recommend it (got one).

  • Niiice, You really know how to play, and I love the sound you got out of your guitarr

  • nice...I gotta figure that song out when I get home tonite...Grade style!

  • Great man ! You did really a good job. Your amp sounds so great! I really appreciated the own style you resolved the solo. Pro sound and play. keep it up !! anselmo de moura

  • Kid, You tore that up!!

  • Dude this is tight!!! I play a Gibson but am so not worthy of it. I wish I could play what you just played!!!

    -Chris

  • Beat It will be on the way

  • there isn't much missing from this compared to the original. maybe just a bit more nastyness on the distortion, some more reverb and delay and it's there. whammy noises all over it of coarse. :) now make a video of the Beat It solo! I'm still trying to get it right. added to favourites

  • Do you know that Chris Chow guy that plays on a white JEM guitar, can move his fingers across the fingerboard at the speed of light, and everybody says he's a guitar god ?

Well, let me tell you that your video has 1000 times more viewing/listening value than everything that asshole posts.

You're what I call a good guitar player (and I don't give a damn about you not improvising nor playing 10 notes per second, you play great music and that's what matters !)

  • That was kickass, but the Van Halen version was better... Sorry. Anyways, keep up guitaring, nice session. Lol, I shouldnt b talkin im a drummer...

Cudda used words tho, that wudda been a nice touch. Say good job to ur drummer for me.

  • i was suprized by the quality of your playing.

  • damn wanted to see your face... but wicked playing good job!

  • Nice 1 mate....

  • I would have played it with my Floyded guitar but i'd broke some strings on it & it takes far too long to replace them. Cheers for the feedback guys.

  • Good Job! I was just thinking "hmm no whammy?" too.. good to see I was thinking right..

Good switching between pick to finger style. If I were seeing this on a stage in a bar.. I would think, "cool.. this guy knows how to play"

  • Pretty good! Better than most of the van halen attempts.

Shame you couldn't whammyerize the solo but I kind of liked your version of it as well. Maybe turn the gain / volume up just a tiny bit more?

I like the fact you played this with different volumes etc in it. Not many people seem to be bothered with that anymore. Way too much compressed, mushy junk on here.
