Bless You Brother! I am you're biggest fan! I used to have all these records because my mom worked for malaco records.....unfortunately I lost them in a house fire and these videos remind me of why I enjoy songs that are THEOLOGICALLY SOUND and not foolishness with a tune.......again God bless you and keep 'em comin!
Yes, I remember seeing that comment in the liner notes of her album, "The Power and the Glory", which was one of her favorite albums despite the fact that it included all 'high church' white 'anthems', or 'opera' as she called them, though she sang them in a gospel style, to the extent she could. Mahalia was so amazed that her white symphony orchestra accompanists could get so much into the music and feel the gospel fervor, I guess. They recognized great musicianship in each other...
I'd also like to know who the guitarist is. Nothing is mentioned anywhere that I've read in any books or articles. Guitars can be heard on numerous recordings, and I feel they helped set the Wards apart from other groups.
Thanks! I grew up knowing who the Caravans were whenever I'd hear them sing, and who the musicians were. It felt funny not knowing the Ward Singers and musicians by name until I was GROWN.
Enough cannot be said for this golden recording by the Ward Singers.Their harmonies (especially towards the end of the song)are impeccable.Even the musicians(especially the organist)help tell the story with their lilting/bouncy musical style presented here.
Fans of this song may enjoy Clara Ward's drastic rearrangement under the title "I'm Getting Richer," the flip side of "I'm Gonna Move Upstairs." Reverend Brewster really expands on the theme of heaven's saving bank ("located in the golden center of Jerusalem on high"). Only Brewster would rhyme "experience" and "interference."
I just can't help from loving this song. I'm glad I understand what this song means. For the word of God surely teaches us to lay up treasure in heaven so that thieves and robbers cannot break in and steal. I wonder who wrote this anointed song?
Do you all not know that other than the Wards themselves and Marion Williams that Ms.Henrietta Waddy led and co-led most of the original Ward Singers songs. Here is the reason why right here, her annointed vocal presentation on this recording!!
Another GREAT Post "MR. CLARA WARD", Thanks Rowoches. You're to be commended along with others who post these CLASSIC materials on here. I've always "Favored" the Original Ward singers like Marion, Kitty, Willa, Ms. Waddy, and Frances compared to the Clara Ward singers in the late 1950's and 1960's. They were more Anointed and Traditional compared to the more Contemporary and secular like singers who performed in Las vegas and the Night Club circuit with Clara and Gertrude Ward.

Are you confused with Gertrude Ward?
Those are the same dates I seen
jddrew1000 1 year ago
No Sir. I know what I'm talking about. They were both the same age.
Rowoches 1 year ago
So they were born and deceased at the same time?
jddrew1000 1 year ago
Yes. I can't remember the month Henrietta Waddy died, but it was a little before Gertrude. Gertrude died in November of 1981.

I recall reading that Mahalia said something similar, when referring to some of her musicians....

I've posted "I'm Gonna Move Upstairs," and if no one does it before me, I will be sure to post "I'm Getting Richer."
Tho a pilgrim and a stranger
In this world I may be
Embarrassed, in poverty
But in Jesus I have
Great riches for my soul
That are more precious
Than silver or gold....
