With all due respect to Elvis (and he deserves tons of respect), there are a few others from the fifties who were every bit as great, and in some ways, maybe even more so. In this list I include Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison, and Jerry Lee Lewis.
For me this is the definition of music. Artists playing their own instruments and using their natural voices. As opposed to todays fake auto-tuned bubblegum bullshit.
One of my all time favorite 'real' rock and roll songs! I loved Buddy and am from that era. I remember vividly the day he,Ritchie Valens and the Big Boppeir were killed in that plane crash. That's what Don McLean's "Bye Bye Miss American Pie!, was based on. . .
hello this iswfarrar69 here and this is my first comment i love this guy's music . i've got some of his old records and love listening to them .keep up the good work thanks
You have just listened to one of the Greatest Singers of all time. There will never be another Buddy Holly, Elvis Presley, Eddie Cochran, Or Ritchie Valens. Those are shoes that no-one can ever fill. But they left us their music and memories to cherrish.
Played Mafia 2 for the past few days, every time this comes on the radio, I crank up the volume and drive around for the duration, singing along. awesome.
@pieandbob1 Thank you for letting us know that you are 14. Now that we know you're young and appreciate Buddy Holly, we're going to shower you with compliments.
I was born in '81 and grew up listening to my Dad's album of Buddy's greatest hits among other great selections from the 50's and 60's. I am forever indebted to my parents for having a great love for amazing music and a collection of records to match it.
@haxor758 The radio certainly sucks, I haven't listened to it since about 2002. I've been doing some underground searching and I've found some nice stuff. It appears as if we haven't had a creative movement since the 90s with alternative rock, I think these things tend to happen. With the exception of Buddy Holly, Elvis, and black RnB blues musicians, the 50s wasn't such a great decade for music. People considered Buddy Holly's music, "negro music"-which is sad and racist.
@beezle6669 That's so sad! In a day and age where music is so easily and freely available, they can't find a classic buddy holly song?? It took me two seconds to find this one, they're just being closed minded and trying to pander to ignorant listeners.
@Tarn1968 how do you dare to compare the great buddy holly to that idiot! buddy is a legend! he's got songs in rolling stone's 500 greatest songs while jb only has a bunch of naive teen girls who think he's cute and dont mindd his singining like a 3 year old, so please dont compare Buddy And Bieber
This song makes me think of the movie "Pleasantville" guess that shows how young i am :) but hey i can still appreciate a great oldies song like this!
pretty hard to imagine we all like something. No thumbs down yet on this. I want to know how someone gives this a thumbs down. Someone who thinks they are better than Buddy, no doubt!

chrisk893 4 months ago
@chrisk893 It was purely a desire to go faster & avoid the discomfort of a
freezing cold bus. Buddy was so young guess he didn't realize the danger
of flying in a small plane in a blizzard. The pilot should have been smarter,
however. They dug up J.P. Richardson, (Big Bopper) a few years ago
because his greedy-ass son thought they buried him in his trademark leopard
skin coat, (they didn't), & the Bopper was in amazing shape after
being underground 50-odd years, but no score for the kid.

The thing that made this song for me was the Holly hickup at the start. If a cover doesn't start with that it just doesn't seem authentic.

he was definitely influential in the rock n roll genre, but a lot of people don't know that he coined the term for what we now consider a "rave" :P
a rave was used to describe any wild or crazy party, and it's origin stems from this song ^.^
