THE REASON THIS IS NOT A GOOD IDEA IS SIMPLE.....ON THE MOTHERBOARD THERE ARE CPU AND GPU CHIPS WHICH ARE COATED IN THERMAL COMPOUND.WHEN YLOD HAS HAPPENED IT MEANS THIS COMPOUND HAS MELTED OFF. IF THESE CHIPS DONT HAVE ENOUGH COMPOUND ON THEY WILL OVERHEAT AGAIN AND AGAIN. WHICH WILL EVENTUALLY KILL THE MOTHERBOARD. THIS IS WHY THE HAIRDRYER TRICK WILL NEVER FIX YOUR PS3 PROPERLY.I ONLY CHARGE £50 TO FIX YLOD AND NEVER HAD A COMPLAINT BECAUSE I DO IT PROPERLY!!!!!

@SuperPapi83 the thermal compound doesn't melt off and cause the ylod, it is the solder joints breaking because of ps3 overheating that causes it....lol

Had my ps3 for 5 years, got YLOD. Fixed it myself. Broke down a month later, tried to fix it again but just broke it more. Sent it away two weeks for professional help, got it back yesterday. Let it sit over night just because, and went to play it today. After an hour of gameplay, it YLOD'd again.

I have went through PS3 DTs before, LOL, so I know how y'all fell. I'v lost my data twice due to Blue-ray malfunctions and like others, I'm starting to get pissed with Sony but I'm willing to deal with because their the best systems in my eye. This actually fucking worked, I did the hair drying process for around 20 minutes, let it dry for an hour and started playing the mission on MW2 that made it froze, seems to work perfectly so far.

This is a temporary and dangerous fix. You'll be doing this every 4-5 days to about 3 wks, depending on the solders flux to solder ratio. Solder without flux is brittle and doesn't solidly connect and is undependable. Fix it urself and don't forget to reflow the flux under the GP and CPU, or you'll just do it again. I fix them locally and have gotten none of em back. I charge 50 bucks. Oh yeah use fresh thermopaste like artic silver. It's better than the shit sony uses, I know, I've seen it.
